John Edwards to step up for Larry Kissell - Updated

It is official! The campaign has made the announcement. John Edwards plans to step up and help Larry win in November. Details haven't been released, so stay tuned for more information. There are so many things going on. Here's a rundown in case you missed anything.

Larry Kissell won the DCCC's "Action for a New Direction" competition. Here's a little more information to give you an idea of just how organized and mobilized Kissell volunteers are.

On Saturday, September 9th, over 25 of our most competitive congressional campaigns participated in "Action for a New Direction," a national volunteer mobilization day. One thing was clear -- Democrats across the country are ready for change and are ready to hit the streets to make a difference in this election.

Larry Kissell, NC-08: Netroots, Grassroots and the DCCC

Everyone who has been here for a while knows how hard we, as netroots activists fought to get our fellow bloggers and activists to add Larry Kissell to the Netroots Endorsed Candidates list. We wrote, recommended, commented, jumped, danced, cheered, jeered and pretty much made fools of ourselves and it was all for a calm, quiet, honest, humble man who still can't believe how passionately a group of strangers feels about his candidacy.

Donate to Larry here!

When nominations were opened the first time, I wrote a piece lauding Larry as the perfect Netroots candidate. I posted it on the threads made available and asked folks to go comment on those threads. That time we didn't get the nod. It was OK. There was time. Larry's campaign was just starting to bubble and simmer. It was getting exciting, but hadn't reached a full rolling boil.

Kissell, Watt & Davis Give us Reason to Hope

Last night I attended a gathering for Larry Kissell at Veteran's Park in Charlotte. Congressman Mel Watt, NC-12 and Congressman Artur Davis of Alabama spoke to rally the group of Kissell supporters, neighborhood leaders, local elected Democrats and party officials. I figure there's nothing new either of them can tell me about Larry. I've read everything there is to read about him. Hell, I've written a lot of it.

So, for me, it wasn't what they said about Larry. It was the warmth with which they embraced Larry in his bid to represent North Carolina's 8th.

Kissell Event featuring Representative Artur Davis

This is somewhat of a public service announcement for the Kissell campaign, so please forgive me. I was very excited to see national interest in the Kissell campaign on the rise after the recent $1.22 gas event. Now, that the interest is picking up we can probably expect a few more events like this.

On Friday Aug. 25th Congressman Artur Davis of Alabama will be in Charlotte to speak and support the Kissell for Congress Campaign. Congressman Davis is a rising star on the National level. He is an influential member of the Congressional Black Caucus, is Vice-Chair of the DCCC, and serves on the House banking committee. The event is free and open to the public. It will start at 6pm and be at Veterans Park, located at 2136 Central Avenue. For more information please contact Kissell for Congress at 1-877-454-7735.

Larry Kissell, NC-08: A Man of the People

Please don't forget to go to One America Committee to vote for Larry. Voting ends today.

Most of you have heard about Larry Kissell's ingenius idea to sell gas at $1.22/gallon in RANT's great diary from yesterday. The results are in and it was an overwhelming success for many reasons. Yes, over 500 people were served. Yes, the news coverage has been terrific. Yes, the many different points represented by this gesture seem to all have been made quite successfully.

NC-08 Veterans Endorse Larry Kissell over Hayes

The Veterans Alliance for Security and Democracy (VETPAC) have endorsed Larry Kissell over Robin Hayes in North Carolina's 8th Congressional District.

"I'm the son of a veteran, so earning this endorsement means the world to me," said Kissell.

The Veterans' Alliance announcement came today on the 62nd anniversary of D-Day , when more than 100,000 Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy in northern France and turned the tide of World War II.

"I am so honored to be endorsed by the veterans of this nation to whom we owe so much, especially on this anniversary of D-Day. We've got to do a better job taking care of our veterans," said Kissell.

Those of you who truly understand this state know this is huge news. Congratulations to Larry Kissell.

Robin Hayes' Felons & Friends

When I was growing up my parents warned me about hanging out with the wrong crowd. I thought then that a person's character would be judged by their actions, but have learned through life experiences that it is many times judged by the company that a person keeps. Much can be learned about our Representatives in Washington just by looking at the company they keep, as well as who is giving them money and when.

I recently spent some time going through six years of Robin Hayes' FEC reports to see just who among his fellow members of congress are giving him money. I was amazed to find out some of the details about Robin's friends. There were enough felons, indictees, adulterers, liars and cheaters to fill a good-sized corner of hell.

GOP Bought Hayes' Vote on CAFTA

Everyone knows that Robin Hayes broke his promise to his constituents. He had promised to vote against CAFTA, the Central American Free Trade Agreement. Republicans and corporate interests in Washington had different plans for Hayes.

Hayes sold his vote. He sold out his constituents. Now we're finding out just how much the Republican Party and corporate Washington are paying Hayes for that vote. The Charlotte Observer has this to say:
