Pat McCrory is a man who just loooooves him some military might. Give him half a chance and he'll break out the bugles to proclaim he supports the troops. He even used national security as a talking point to push his bond package through.
So when the United States Navy says off-shore oil and gas drilling would interfere with fleet readiness, what does McCrory do? Waaaaaaa. You guessed it, he whines about Obama listening to his Joint Chiefs of Staff.
I have been trying to frame my outrage at Pat McCrory's latest insult to the women of North Carolina. Then I got this email from Trish Cotham, which does a better job than I can do explaining the insanity running rampant in Raleigh:

Last week, a new law went into effect in our state that requires doctors to report women's private medical records to the government -- including ultrasound photos. And proponents of this law, including Governor McCrory, who signed it last June, will tell you that it's about keeping women safe, about helping women. Let me set the record straight: This law, along with many others like it that are designed to put up barriers around safe, legal health care procedures, is not to care for us -- it's to confine and control us.
When it comes to marketing and advertising, I've earned my stripes many times over. I've advised some of the world's leading companies on strategy and design, and have built an enviable record of effective branding. I say this not to brag, but to provide context for my review of North Carolina's new slogan (Nothing Compares) and branding campaign. In a word, the campaign stinks. It is amateurish, ugly, and literally untrue.
Of all the disappointments I have known in my 40 years as a North Carolinian, none matches my deep disappointment in you. Over the past three years, you have proven yourself to be both a liar and a political coward, an empty suit of the vilest sort. You betrayed millions of women by signing new abortion restrictions into law, and you have staffed your administration with a collection of self-interested hack that make Mike Easley look like a choir boy.
Pat McCrory hoodwinked a majority of North Carolina voters in 2012, but some of us knew all along he was a shady character. Pat is cut from the same block of wood as Mike Easley and Jim Black. The only difference is where they learned flimflamming. In McCrory's case, it was mostly at Duke Energy.
Poor Pat. Every time he posts something on Facebook, all he gets is a heavy dose of ridicule and criticism. The poor schmuck needs to go back into hiding. Either that or grow a spine and stand up for the people of North Carolina.
Denoting or relating to language used for general purposes of social interaction, rather than to convey information or ask questions. Utterances such as hello, how are you? and nice morning, isn't it? are phatic.
It occurs to me that 99% of the communications we hear from Mayor Pat would qualify as phatic. Meaningless utterances, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
One year after WRAL News requested emails from Gov. Pat McCrory's office under North Carolina's public records law, his staff has so far failed to produce a single document.
