Why not fire him, Pat?

Two week suspension? Why not fire Brett Keeter? He blew a point one three. That's not even close.

1188967798-mugjameskeeter.jpgHe's your field director, right? He's the guy you want people to turn to when you're not available. He's your personal representative to the people of the 10th district.

Could you explain to me exactly why he's now worth $55,000 a year of our money? In fall of 2004, you thought he was only worth $15,000 annually. Does he have something on you?

And look at this young man, your boy. He's scary. Fire him. He can live at your unoccupied condo in Hickory while he job hunts, if you feel sorry for him.

What with your problems with a former staffer pleading guilty for voter fraud, your friend Ralph Gonzalez being murdered allegedly by your other friend Jason Drake, your financial disclosure debacles and the ass you made of yourself nationally over earmarks, wouldn't it lighten the load to dump this one trouble-maker?

The thing with drinking

is that, after 1 drink, you might think, "I shouldn't drive." After 2 drinks, you'd think, "I know I can't drive." After 3 drinks, you might start to think, "I feel great!" After 4 drinks, you might be thinking, "Hey y'all, let's go get some beer!" After 5 drinks, damn. You're bulletproof and invisible. Someone should have taken his keys.

As for why not firing him - I would hope that even McHenry has some sort of personnel policy that would guide his chief of staff in this. I know I couldn't fire an employee for being arrested for DUI. Being convicted? That might be different. I'd have to look at policies and see.

Thanks for that input LC

On the firing. But why suspend him without the conviction?

I'm just responding to the choice of two weeks.

But MissM made your same point and in a professional (not PR) sense, it does seem strange. I think they must want to "put it to bed" at the local papers who would never question him.

News of the 10th district: See Pat Go Bye Bye,

I think they're definitely

I think they're definitely trying to make it go away. From a human resources standpoint, I think they might be on shaky ground to suspend someone for an allegation, unless their personnel policy specifically states that they will be suspended if they are arrested, no matter what the charges or outcome. If I were the employee, I'd be at a lawyer's office so fast their heads would spin.

why not fire him?

Because he is an alien. Look at his mugshot. He is hiding Patty's past in that red face of his. Come on Brett, tell us all Patty's secrets.

Patty "Man" in Black? Make that "Boy"in Black?

Because he is an alien. Look at his mugshot.* Men In Black

It is against the Supreme Universal Space Treaty of 1988. You cannot fire a federal employee unless he has had sex with 4 former Republican Alien Lizards at the Gaston County International Airport in the Men's Restroom.

Looks like the North Carolina YRs fired him

He's been a region IV director all year.

But now his name is gone.

Isn't it unusual for a deputy field director for a Congressman to be on the board of the Young Republicans anyway?

Two Young Republicans have told me that Brett's the one who pressured them to endorse Glenn Murphy for College Republicans National Committee chair.

They liked his opponent and Murphy already had one reported incident of unwanted sex act on a sleeping person (with his girlfriend in the room). Now, he's resigned over another similar incident.

News of the 10th district: See Pat Go Bye Bye,

Gone?

Why it seems like only yesterday he was right there

Brett Keeter has been involved with the NCFYR and other conservative organizations for many years. He has served as NCFYR Treasurer, as Executive Director of the N.C. Federation of College Republicans, and as Vice Chairman of the Gaston County Republican Party.

I don't know.

I am starting to think we're getting to be a little too bloodthirsty. I think the Republicans showed that they were nothing but sinners when they cast out Larry Craig - hating the sinner AND the sin. I don't think we should slip to their level. Yes, they are hypocrites. I just would hate to think that someday a child of mine would make a stupid mistake like this and that there would be people out there calling for his head.

Instead, aren't we the people supposed to be asking if this young man needs help? Was it just one stupid night, or does he have a problem? I guess we need to know that. How about some help for this man, FROM Pat.

Show us your Christian roots Pat and accept responsibility for this young man and his mistakes. Get him some help - not legal help, moral help.

It's a nice thought.

Show us your Christian roots Pat and accept responsibility for this young man and his mistakes. Get him some help - not legal help, moral help.

If you had been on the phone for hours with people who have been personally hurt by Brett and Pat you wouldn't even think to suggest these things. It's just that what you suggest is so unlikely.

But keep posting those suggestions. This happened to me when I researched Taylor. I get so angry even after doing a small amount of research, mainly that the press that refuses (or is too busy or too lazy) to cover these things, that refuses to ask the obvious questions, that prints pr releases without even a simple fact check.

This is why a cooperative blog is such a good thing. Keep stating the things I would have been thinking if I wasn't so busy fending off personal attacks and disinformation campaigns!

I understand.

I would be hardput to say anything nice about Elizabeth Dole, although I hope her health problems are not as serious as many are whispering, so I guess that is nice.

I wonder why Democrats don't put out a message asking Pat to stop obfuscating this situation and to simply HELP this young man. Does he care more about his power than he does the people who work with him?

The impression I got when I met this guy years ago

is that he has no morals at all. He treated the Democratic candidate with amazing disdain. He was so rude, I thought the fundamentalists cheering for him would be repulsed. But they loved it. I guess they didn't know she had no chance, that she had $10,000 to his $900,000, that once he'd won the two primaries, McHenry no longer needed to attack every opponent.

He regularly treats perfectly respectful questioners with interruptions and insults.

He takes campaign money from banks, then goes to DC and writes legislation to destroy credit unions when his own district has more credit union members per capita than any other (according to the Washington Monthly). So many working class and poor seniors really can't afford the switch from a credit union to a bank. He does't care. When asked, he just says he'll talk about it later. He's hurting people who just can't take it (and who truly believe in him) and he just doesn't care.

It really seems to be all about personal power for him. Nothing else explains most of his actions.

If Brett Keeter is as close to him socially as people say, he would never have suspended him until after the verdict. Of course not. But McHenry must have wanted this to go away and he probably thought this plan would put it to rest for the newspapers in the district. And perhaps Brett, figuring his future rests with McHenry, gladly went along with the scheme. It's not like alcoholics want help on their own usually. He's 31 so, if he is an alcoholic, he probably hasn't hit bottom yet.

Your suggestion is, of course, completely reasonable. But that's not how Karl Rove wannabes think.

News of the 10th district: See Pat Go Bye Bye,

And this is an excellent suggestion for our party leaders.

I wonder why Democrats don't put out a message asking Pat to stop obfuscating this situation and to simply HELP this young man. Does he care more about his power than he does the people who work with him?

Democrats understand that we have responsibilities to the people around us. And in reality, adults understand that we have responsibilities to the people around us. We need to call on McHenry and his staff to be the adults that their birth certificates claim that they are, and get him help.
