When you can't beat them on ideas, go with insults.

Long ago, Republicans wrapped themselves in the flag and claimed they were the only true patriots.
Then they proclaimed only they had 'family values.'
Now, Dan Forest tries to convince us that only Republicans worship God.

He says Democrats worship an idol called 'big government.'

Forest, a likely Republican candidate for governor in 2020, said “the left” marches and lobbies for bigger government with “religious fervor.”

“It’s the thing that wars used to be fought over,” Forest said. “You see it on issues like climate change, or the Me Too movement or black lives matter or gun control,”
“Name the issue today, the fervor has reached a religious pitch in America. Why? Because it really is the religion of the left.”

Obviously, the Lt. Gov's Sunday School classes did not point out that Jesus was a progressive liberal, who advised the rich to sell all they owned and give the money to the poor. To pray in a room behind a closed door. And to do unto others as you would have others do unto you.

And his history classes did not teach him that Western Europeans spent centuries in wars over religion.

Speaking of "religious fervor" ...

... I can't imagine a better description of Forest's own devotion to his idiosyncratic, extremist, regressive views.

Really, a Dem candidate up against this guy needs to tell him to look in a mirror.
