Welcome to BlueNC and Pre-Debate Site Prep

Welcome to BlueNC. We have a lot of visitors this morning. We're glad you've dropped by and hope you'll come back by this evening for the debate between Bev Perdue and Richard Moore. We also hope you'll stop by more often and feel free to join in the discussions. Sometimes they're valuable and sometimes we're ranting, raving and singing to the choir.

Regular users will notice some of our site features disappearing throughout the day. We are trying to streamline the site to prepare for higher traffic volumes. I promise we will turn everything back on after traffic dies later tonight.

The News & Observer piece is out. Ryan Teague Beckwith did a pretty darned good job. I think he was very even-handed. The only factual error I found was one that didn't really impact the overall accuracy or tone, so not going to whine, moan, groan or complain. Also, he's featured the BlueNC men in blog posts at Under the Dome. You can read about James, Robert, Greg, Lance and John.

Again, welcome to our visitors. Please let me know if you have any troubles accessing the site.

[Update] If you are new to BlueNC you can more easily keep track of which threads have new comments by clicking on the track changes link in the top right corner of the page. If you have questions about commenting here at BlueNC please post them here and someone will help you. Also, to reply to the thread simply scroll down to the comment box at the bottom of the page. congrats

Got up and looked at the paper this am and saw old media finally tipping its hat to new media. I did not know this was an influential liberal site. I thought we were all just a bunch of dirty hippies.

shhhhhhhhhh

Nice to see you out and about.

Hey Kirk!

Been missing your Exiles ... but very glad to see Carrboro Citizen doing so well. Thanks for stopping by.

staying busy

in spite of putting Ex on idle. The paper is now a year old. Thanks.

Dang, it's been a year?

Wow. That's amazing!

Still the most beautiful paper in the state, by a mile.

Thanks, Betsy

Should be a fun day!

Women on Dome?

I hope Ryan has Betsy and Linda profiles up today.

Good point

I was away all weekend and missed the flurry of front-pagers being featured.

Fireworks tonight?

Maybe it's a good thing the honorables aren't going to be in the same room. Just got this email. Whoever said politics is a contact sport was right.

In a letter to the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters, Bev Perdue has challenged Richard Moore to a seventh debate. Perdue has asked the broadcasters’ association to oversee the process to ensure a statewide televised audience.

“After seeing the sleazy personal attacks in Richard Moore’s most recent ad, I want an opportunity to look him in the eye to confront him with the facts,” said Perdue.

The good news is, it looks like there will probably be another debate.

Never enough

Sheesh. It's never enough with you guys, is it?

I'll try to finish the profiles of the front-pagers this week.

Curious about the factual mistake, as I'd like to correct it asap.

— RTB

I thought it was a good story too, Ryan.

I didn't notice any factual errors, though Raupe's storyline about conservative national blogs filling the void for Republicans in North Carolina is much baloney. Art Pope sponsors a whole slew of state and regional blogs. I read them regularly, and you probably do too. Which makes the two of us a majority of their readership.

Hehe....I told you it was small

McCord and Livingston stopped contributing when their new legal careers got in the way, but Protzman found new editors in some of the site's more dedicated contributors.

Lance (joint decision, I'm sure) issued the invitation for Robert and I to contribute as front page writers a few months after the site started and several months before they left to study for the bar.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Dang, you're good.

I should have caught that.

Aw...that's sweet, Mr. Chairman.

Jerry Meek, chairman of the state Democratic Party, says the site serves a valuable role as a "think tank" to air ideas. But he does not know how widely read the site is and wonders if it has any more influence than a multitude of other constituencies within the party.

From the quotes...

...it sounds like more Republican legislators read BlueNC than Democratic ones.

Too bad nothing seems to have rubbed off on them.

"Keep the Faith"

"Keep the Faith"

Without within

I don't believe we are one of the:

constituencies within the party

though Dems may be a constituency within BlueNC.

Wither within?

Good point, Greg.

It's tempting for people to think there is a "BlueNC" that has some kind of cohesive or consensus view. There isn't. BlueNC itself is either (1) software on a server, or (2) a money-losing LLC.

Now if you're talking about the people who read and post at BlueNC, well, they're all over the map. Most seem to be Democrats, but many aren't.

It's exactly this kind of talk....

that makes BlueNC less influential in the eyes of some.
; )

We haven't been that nice to Jerry here lately. Some folks went off on him for Edwards being off the ticket, I went off on NCDP for charging an arm and a leg to be amongst the crowd at JJ. I'm sure Jerimee could tell us other examples of people being in disagreement with the NCDP and its Chair.

Well, exactly! We're not Republicans, we're Democrats. I think the Chair would do well to remember that we are all pretty damn loyal to the party and to its platform. I'll also remember that we're not influential the next time someone asks me update them about a specific race or an issue because they know I blog here. Oddly enough, where I work the only other person who is up on the issues is a Daily Kos lurker.

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.
-me

Where I work, there is only one other Democrat.

Sometimes she comes in my office and closes the door so we can talk about issues without getting the "hairy eyeball" from co-workers. Funny story - one co-worker was really funny about "becoming a liberal" because she was going to vote for Ron Paul.

Thank you, BlogAds

The liberal headlines ad placeholder from Blogads was causing some load time issues. I emailed them and told them and let them know about the debate.....and how we want to speed up load times. How nice of them to take care of that for us in a very short period of time.

I wanted to offer a thank you

I wanted to offer a thank you to BlueNC for organizing this event. I'm glad to see that the mainstream media is recognizing BlueNC's contribution to the democratic process.

With Best Wishes

WFAE-FM

Hi folks, long time no see. Just riding home and heard a nice plug for the debate on WFAE. Nice work getting the word out. I'm sure we'll get loads of traffic from this. Good luck and smooth sailing!

Hey you!

We miss you, but it's good to see you stopping by. It's been like old home week today!

Thanks

Just got in, thanks James.
