Too bizarrro: Pat and Nascar Driver Tony Stewart?

From DC's Wonkette:

Sighting: little Patrick McHenry. Last night [9/26] at the America Supports You Nascar dinner at Walter Reed flirting with Tony Stewart. Really sucking up. Now, we agree that Mr. Stewart is a nice hunk o’ burning love, but face it Patrick, he’s just not that into you.

You know -

I spent the earlier part of last night with my two 12 year old nephews... somehow I feel like they're still here. :-D

Sorry I've been absent

Have had too much on my plate. We are adopting a child of the four legged variety today, so have been busy getting everything ready. If Lizzy doesn't like Winnie or Kino, then we won't be bringing a new child home, but we're ready in case it happens. Lizzy is a bit of a Diva if'n ya know what I mean.

We are the winners

Meet Waldo, a Jack Russell Terrier who was owner abandoned. He hadn't made it onto the web site yet, so I didn't know he was there. We took Lizzy with us and she about killed Winnie. Kino was already too large at 9 months and he was adopted that day as well, so no guilt at leaving him. The girls saw Waldo and we figured it was worth a try. They nuzzle each other and barely growl as they switch food bowls back and forth. He is house trained and crate trained, though he doesn't like his crate the way Lizzy did. He slept through the night last night and is no longer shaking from fright. He's already two, which works for us. We wanted a mature dog, not a puppy. I don't think he's ever been worked before, so the girls want to teach him to hunt. I don't think our red fox family in the back yard will be very happy about that, though. Lizzy loves her new friend. She willingly gave up her large blanket and stretches across the small rug we pulled out for Waldo. They're kinda funny looking with the little dog on the big blanket and the big dog on the tiny rug. Here are Katie, Lizzy and Waldo.

Welcome Waldo!

Thanks for adopting a mature dog - I'm sure he'll give the Muse household years of love and joy. And vice versa.

I love puppies.

I just don't want to raise one. He's a hoot. Gave him a shower and he was jumping around. He's calmed down again.

We adopted Jeremy (he came with the name)

from the Hoke-Raeford animal shelter 3 years ago on my birthday. That is was my birthday was a coincidence. We looking for another dog, because we have a large fenced yard, and room in are hearts and home. Our pack was ready for another member. We found Jeremy on petfinders.com. He had hours left when we got there. A new batch of puppies had been brought into the pound, and there just wasn't room for him anymore. I know that sounds like a sob story, but it's true - or at least it's what we were told. He would have been put down due to lack of space. Puppies find homes much more easily than older dogs.

According to the woman who runs the Union County Animal Shelter

they will not put down adoptable dogs. They only destroy very sick or viscious dogs. She had one dog they kept for 14 months and she said she cried when the dog was finally adopted. The shelter has many volunteers who handle the dogs and keep them socialized. I was very impressed. You can leave a dog guilt-free, knowing he/she won't be put down just because you didn't take it home. That might not be true of all the shelters in Union, but it appears to be true here. I was amazed at the number of people adopting dogs on Saturday.

New dog (Waldo...ish, I really can't stand that name for the dog.....) got up on couch without permission. I told him no and he cowered, but wouldn't get down. I picked him up and put him on the floor and told him no again. He tucked his tail and went to sit on the blanket. Lizzy pranced about like "look at me, mommy...I didn't do anything wrong." :)

I've realized that there are women all over this country

who save and foster animals who have been discarded by others. This is my second adoption through petfinder.com but there were a few that didn't gel for one reason or another, anyway, in the process I've met some remarkable women. Even at shelters that euthanize routinely there are perfectly adoptable pets kept from being swept in by indifference or overwhelming circumstance to their demise.

It's fortunate that they've got the funding and room to do that.

I know that in both Moore and Hoke Counties, there just isn't the space to house the unwanted animals. :(

I would have them all here at my house if I my husband would just let me. There's a beauty named Ginger just waiting for me. I'm really thinking about going to get her, but 5 dogs might mean the end of my marriage, and might make me the eccentric wierdo dog lady, or something.

As I'm typing this, I have Bailey under my desk, Token (the only white dog we have) curled in a little ball as close as he can get to me as he can be. Jeremy leaning into my leg, and Duncan, the black lab staring longingly at me, attempting to convince me that he really needs another cookie. I adore these animals. They are smelly, expensive, inconvenient, and did I mention expensive? But I absolutely adore them. I like being part of the pack. :)

Lizzy and ???? are play fighting

This is the first time since we got her that Lizzy hasn't followed me to sit at my feet while I type. They are raising quite a fuss and he showed his teeth once, but only playfully. She got his entire head in her mouth...almost, but as soon as I get her to walk away he runs and jumps on her with his tail wagging.

Our "covenants" (I put the word in "" because nobody follows them) limit us to three outdoor pets. Yeah, right. As far as I'm concerned these are indoor dogs. :)

We live in the county.

To my knowledge we could take as many as we want. We're down to two cats right now, but I'm getting ready to adopt a 25 pounder whose current mommy is in the early stages of alzheimers. That should be fun.

Congratulations!

I bet Jack (my sweet dog) would love to play with some Poms!

What a beauty!

He looks so silky soft!

Ohhh he is soooo cute.

Lizzy would like him, but ????? probably wouldn't. He has this thing about other males. He doesn't like them.

Teachers <3 Perdue

North Carolina’s Teachers and Educators Endorse Perdue

Raleigh – North Carolina’s teachers and educators today endorsed Bev Perdue to be the next Governor. Membership of the 70,000-strong North Carolina Association of Educators overwhelmingly voted to support Perdue, a former public school teacher.

This was expected. . . but it's not a bad prelude to the official October 1 kickoff. Came in by email.

hmmm...

I got bored fast.
