Weekend Wound Up

Happy November everyone. Just think, we're only twelve months away from the general election! Heaven help us, it's going to be a very long year. Got any predictions you'd like to make?

Comments

One year out

1) Obama beats Romney in the general

2) Republicans hold Wyoming

3) The Dems take Senate seats OR, ME, MN, CO, NH, VA, TX, OK, ID, TN, AK, MS, KY, SC, KS, and NE, and pick up 30 seats in the House (cause who needs veto-proof majorities...we got Obama in the oval office).

4) Lieberman goes R, and it doesn't even matter :)

Nah...this is how it goes

1) Edwards beats Huckabee in the general

2) Wyoming? Who gives a rats behind about Wyoming? Nobody really lives there anyway.

3) The Dems take so many Senate and House seats that there is rejoicing in the streets. Republicans everywhere change their party affiliation in droves for fear of being left behind......and not in THAT way.

4) Lieberman is told to sit down and shut the fuck up. He is inconsequential. He retires early in disgrace.

5) The Heels win the national championship.......in football. :) I'm only slightly delusional.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Hillary Will be in the Lead

About a year ago I read a piece somewhere in the British Press comparing Hillary with Margaret Thatcher. It has proven to be prescient so far. Attacks on Hillary have served to mobilize women around her and have generally backfired on her attackers. Hillary has hit some flat notes on Iran - Kyl Lieberman - and has enabled Bush on Iraq but that hasn't hurt her so far. If it doesn't hurt her with Democrats, don't look for it to hurt her in the general election.

I am making the not so bold forecast that Hillary will be leading in the polls heading into the 2008 general election a year from today.

Senate Minority Hater, er, Leader

Mitch McConnell is defeated in Kentucy. The people of Kentucky dislike McConnell so much, that instead of losing a good state candidate that could have won another seat in the State Legislature or the US House of Representatives, the Kentucky Democratic Committee runs the Democratic Donkey (DD) against McConnell and the DD wins by a margin of 14%.

worked just fine for me

I'm using firefox btw.
The only thing I didn't like that much was the scrolling window that basically tells you what the whole petition is about. Maybe there's a way to show all that text at once, without having to scroll in a window?

thank you testers

Thank you for everyone who tested, feel free to leave feedback here, or to email me at jrichir(at)ncdemocraticparty.org

I really appreciate the help.

Hey, check out this quiz

to see which candidate matches your views most closely.

Gravel won for me (93 percent matchup); tied with Kucinich. Richardson and Edwards ten points behind but perhaps that is because, unlike the first two, they are being practical . . . actually trying to get elected!

Tancredo last. Ron Paul was closest of the Republicans.

News of the 10th district: See Pat Go Bye Bye,

I'll be damned

Kucinich and Gravel for me at 85% and Edwards/Richardson at 80%. I'm sticking with Edwards thank you very much. There are certain factors that you can't test for...like...say...whether I trust him to do what he says he will do.

I have the real flu. I'm crawling back in my whole. Y'all play nice.

It didn't work for me -

but I know from other quizzes that I match up ideologically pretty well with Kucinich. However, I am still an Edwards supporter because of the candidates that have a chance of being elected, he's the one that matches me the best.

Besides - he has great hair.

betsy i thought you considered yourself conservative!

I would have thought Hillary would more closely match your views (whether you would vote for her or not).

Me thinks you're no conservative Dem, girl. Well, I know you've always had progressive ideas but did you realize how left you'd become since you started bloggin'?

News of the 10th district: See Pat Go Bye Bye,

No....others have considered me conservative

I am a common sense Democrat. I believe an elected official represents his or her constituency...not just an ideology, but those people living in a district whether they voted for you or not. Sometimes you have to deal with the practicality of governing and that doesn't always allow for a pure ideological approach. You would be surprised how many Republicans I vote for locally.

Of course, it doesn't help that many local Dems are either pure nutcases or Jim Black wannabes playing politics and pandering for votes instead of doing the right thing.

Is one of the more enlightened people working in the Art Pope Puppetshow. I wish they'd let her write more often. Her Friday stand-in column concludes:

The four years of college should be primarily about something grander, he said — not just how to work, but what kind of person to be. That is liberal learning, viewed through the wisdom of the ages.

I was pleased she didn't get into all the free-market claptrap that her colleagues seem unable to resist . . . the same free-market in education that's responsible for the situation she decries.

Food for thought.

This poll was definitely framed by a conservative.

When the state legislators debated the lottery in 2005, they claimed it would generate as much as $500 million a year in new education spending. Lottery sales have fallen well short of that mark and are continuing to fall. In addition, most of the proceeds are being spent on programs - class size reduction, More at Four, school capital needs for counties - that were in existence prior to the lottery's inception. Please answer the following questions about the lottery:

The thing that is misleading about this is that Easley has always said lotteyr funds would be used to pay for class size reduction, More at Four, and school capital. Yes, they were in existence, and they were in existence because he said they would be paid for with lottery funds. I still haven't seen any evidence that the education dollars are going down and being replaced by lottery dollars.

Yeah, no doubt.

I was laughing while reading the questions. I kept waiting to smell cigar smoke and see Rush Limpbaugh jump out from behind the screen.

I thought the same thing.

I could even hear a couple of harumphs as I answered the way any good progressive should. :)
