We Have the Power

My monthly totals for carbon savings are in for June. See the Carbon Tracker link at www.theraleighproject.com. This month, I saved an astonishing 2,650 pounds of carbon from entering the atmosphere! Even after one month of tracking the carbon savings, it is striking how much savings can be achieved by switching to green power.

2,497 pounds of carbon or 94% of my carbon savings came from purchasing green power. This only cost me a $48 donation to NC Green Power. If you live in North Carolina, please sign up for this voluntary program. You can donate in $4 increments. Even a $4 a month donation will save over 2,000 pounds of carbon a year. If you live outside of North Carolina, other states have similar green power programs.

It is SHAMEFUL that only 1.5% of North Carolina's power grid is from renewable resources. If my $48 dollar donation saved thousands of pounds of carbon, think about if our country had invested even a fraction of the billions of dollars for the war in Iraq into green power. I think this proves that we really do have the ability to curb global warming if we just start switching over to green power. Our leaders just don't have the political will yet. Let's change that by voluntarily signing up for green power programs and making it an issue in upcoming elections.

I love your site

Thanks for posting here. Have you added the site to the blog index? You can find a link to it up top. Have any advice on solar? We are getting ready to build and I'm trying to figure a way to entice my husband to consider it. He's having difficulty getting over the hurdle of the initial cost.

Thanks for your comments. I will add bluenc.com to my blog index. I am not an expert on energy efficiency/solar panels, but I am using my blog to educate myself and other about the issue. So I would be happy to do some research and post an entry in my blog in the coming week. So stay tuned.

Please do!

I think she was talking about you adding your blog to the NC Blog Index—please do!

Site Added

My blog has been added to the blog index too.

After watching Gore movie...,

I'm ready to take some steps. We've adjusted the thermostat, quit using AC in the car (most of the time) and I looked into Green Power and Duke Power. Although I probably won't be making a $48/month contribution, I think you are right that if each North Carolinian bought $4/month it would make a huge difference.

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

I'm thinking about going to see that tomorrow

I'll see if John will take the girls to the pool. I know John isn't interested. Durned Republican.

Go see it.

It is as galvanzing an event as you'll ever experience - about THE issue of our times. I'm totally onboard with making NC a leader in going beyond the carbon economy.

bring BlueNC as much climate activism as you're willing to share and promote. We need to be activated and pushing hard so that the next legislative session makes some serious progress.

More to Come

The Raleigh Project is only in its first month, but I will be sure to continue posting what I consider the most interesting posts at bluenc.com. You can keep up to date on my carbon tracking project and check out all of my blog posts at www.theraleighproject.com. Also, please share my site with anyone you think would be interested or inspired.

I'll add a link to it

on my personal blog. You've done a great job. I read a lot of your front page articles yesterday. I'm really glad you stopped by and posted.
