We are lucky.

jim neal and kay hagan

Don't you just love this picture?

In a flip comment on another thread, I made a joke that Kay Hagan is Dole lite. That was a stupid thing to say. I apologize. Kay Hagan is a solid citizen and a good Democrat. She would be an excellent US Senator.

No Democrat could possibly be more positive than Liddy is negative. And just how negative is she?

Damn Right.

I will be a Jim Neal supporter until at least May 6th. (Actually - having spoken to him enough, even if he doesn't win the primary, I will be a personal supporter. He's a terrific man). But you're right, James. We are very lucky.

This is a good year to be a Democrat. We have an abundance of wonderful choices.

Jim Neal House Parties

Hi Icloud! Will you be able to host or attend any grassroots house party fundraisers for Jim? I'm helping to organize them, and the next one is this Friday -- Leap Friday. Do you think you could host a gathering for Jim next month? It's a great way to introduce Jim to your friends who may not be connected through BlueNC.

Thanks for your support!

good excuse for bluenc get-together, too!

Besides getting to know a good candidate, this is a good opportunity to get some BlueNC people together with the wider community. I am surprised how many politically involved people I meet lately who DON'T blog. This is a such a good place to get acquainted with the issues in the upcoming election - need to get the word out more.

I'm not available that evening, unfortunately.

I'm planning on attending a fundraiser for Marshall Adame in Raleigh, which is about an hour from my home. However, I'm working on something for the next round. Not at my house, because the animals (4 dogs and now 4 cats) might possibly outnumber the people, but somewhere. Count me in for next time.

Just wanted to say thanks to all who are helping to generate excitement for Marshall Adame's event Friday evening in Raleigh. Look forward to meeting some of you. I'm Brad Rich, his press secretary. We're going to get Marshall elected!

Hi Bradford.

Nice to see you virtually. I'll see you in person tomorrow.

hiya Bradford!

Nice to "meet" you. Hope to be able to see you tomorrow night.

Okay, so why don't we try again

to get Kay here for a live blog? I really want to like her, and I promise I'll be a good boy.

Seriously.

I invited her early on

She seemed interested in what was going on here at the time. But it could have been that good old Southern charm talking. I'm too dense to know the difference. In any case, the offer stands. I'd love to have a live-blogging session with Kay Hagan. Anytime that's good for her is good for us.

J

PS This is a test. I don't know if anyone from the Hagan campaign reads North Carolina blogs in general or this blog in particular. If they don't, well that speaks volumes. And if they do ... well come on out and sit for a spell!

slightly OT

I was, for reasons that I won't go into, searching the AM dial for something to listen to yesterday. I came across a talk show (790ish) with Gary Pearce. There were several thing he mentioned that made me think he either read BlueNC or should, because his opinions were exactly things I have heard here before. In fact, if I went and looked, there was this one thing he said about Democrats winning Senate races in Presidential Election years that was almost word for word what someone here said and I argued against.
; )

If so, welcome Gary!

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

Democrats have the advantage in this case.....

Either Jim, or Kay will win against Liddy Dole. Both are people of distinction and accomplishment.

I know we will all support the nominee with all of our heart, minds and feet. May's Primary will provide NC with a real opportunity to send a strong Democrat to the US Senate in November. Its a 100% guarantee already.

As for me, I have been supporting Jim Neal and will continue to do so. After May, I will support the nominee.

We have overcome already in having two strong candidates.

Having had the opportunity

Having had the opportunity to attend a fundraiser at which both candidates were President, and getting to speak with Kay Hagan personally (I missed out on talking to Jim Neal, though), I have to say I was very impressed by both, but I think that Kay really has the experience and the record that North Carolinians want to see in a Senator. I was really impressed with how successful and productive of a leader she has been, and that's really what made me like her so much when I did meet her.

CLINTON for President • PERDUE for Governor • HAGAN for Senate • KISSELL for Congress

I do understand your choice for Kay, but....

regarding your statement;

"but I think that Kay really has the experience and the record that North Carolinians want to see in a Senator".

That exact statement was said many times about Liddy Dole before she was elected. What do you mean by experience? Experience in Government? Experience in serving the public? life experience? I dont know what you mean by that. President Bush has the most experienced advisors in America and look where he has taken America. Where did that extensive experience get us? With Liddy Doles help, ten trillion dollars in debt, millions of jobs leaving this country, war in Iraq that is stealing our blood and draining our economy, suspension of Habeas Corpus, validation fo torture as an acceptable pratice and so much more.

There is another consideration however that I hope you will ponder.
For the past eight years, Washington DC has been a wash in Senators from very privledged backgrounds. Many there today have never personally paid their own electric bill. Most in the Senate today have never had to decide whether they will make the car payment, or buy food this month. The vast majority of US Senators today have little , or no experience in living even close to how the average joe in America lives. Most do not even realize just how privledged their lives are.

Please do not think that I am slamming Kay for being fortunate enough to to be brought up in a loving family who wanted for little. That is not my intention.

What was very telling to me was when Kay said she would have voted to grant immunity to the Telecoms and seemed to validate the president regarding Iraq by seeming to say that the problem with the war was primarally logistics. I spent three years there. Many of our politicians do not have a clue about Iraq. Rule of Law has different conotations to different people, usually along the lines of "Haves" and "Have nots"

Getting Change means Making Change. We need really big and significant change in Washington where they have lost touch with middle America, and I feel Kay represents much of the very same type of person who is there already.

Jim came from a line of carpanters and mill workers an school teachers. Jim understands middle class values.

Jim hs lent his efforts to many Democratic Candidates and is active in nonprofit groups and political initiatives. He has been a servant to his community as an overnight volunteer at a homeless shelter, a lay minister to mentally ill residents of an assisted-care facility, and a sponsor of a post-war Vietnamese refugee family in alliance with the International Rescue Committee.

He raised two sons as a single father. No easy task.

Experience? I think Jim Neal has exactly the professional and personal life experience we need in our US Senators.

No.. I do not work for Jim Neal in any capacity.

OBAMA, PERDUE, NEAL, LONG, ADAME, KISSELL, RIDPATH, DON DAVIS, RUTH, BEASLEY, WOOD

Sorry...I haven't really picked my Lt. Gov. yet ......

Jim Neal in Mecklenburg

Jim Neal will be at the 9th District Progressive Democrats of America meeting this evening. Jim along with 9th district candidates Harry Taylor and Ross Overby will be stumping at the meeting which will be held at the Morrison Branch Library at 7pm.

We will also be deciding if we want to endorse in the 9th district race and discusing the local races here in Mecklenburg.

Neal in Meck last night

Jim Neal visited our 9th District Prog. Dems of America meeting last night and we really appreciatte it. This was our first meeting but I think it showed that the candidates want our support and are willing to listen to us.

Besides Jim Neal we had a candidate for county commish, three judge candidates, a state legislature candidate, both candidates who are running in the 9th district, and 35 audience members, not bad for a first meeting.

Awesome picture.

I'd love to have a big one for my office. Seriously.

Liddy Dole has got to go. I know who I'm voting for in the primary and I know who I'm voting for in the General.

Liddy Dole has GOT TO GO!!! ... home to Kansas.

"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

I know!

We'll just send her some sparkly ruby slippers with the instructions:

Please put these lovely shoes on your feet, click your heels together three times, while repeating,

there's no place like home, there's no place like home...

Now THAT sounds like the script

As a native Kansan

Send her back to Kansas, it has been nice having a third Senator from my home state but I am ready to have a second one (first one I support) from North Carolina.
