US Senate - Who will challenge Liddy?

Now that I'm mostly over my disappointment that Brad Miller will not be challenging Liddy Dole for the US Senate seat from North Carolina in 2008, I'm trying to think of who I can cajole next to run and defeat our do-nothing Senator from Kansas.

I thought I would put it out to all of you here so I could share in your idea's as to who you would like to run against Liddy, and who you think could win.

I would like to see Bev Purdue run, although I'm sure she is going to run for Governor instead.

What are your thoughts?

Grier, Roy or Elaine

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own.

I like Greir also.

I could back up that campaign.

North Carolina. Turning the South Blue!

I would support any of the three

I really do like them all and each brings a little something different to the table.

We'll have a kick-ass candidate by Labor Day

and I'm hoping it will be Grier. I've said it a thousand times, but it bears repeating:

Army Major
Afghanistan veteran
Moderate > Progressive
Handsome as all get out
Able to trounce chickenhawk Republicans in a single bound

This election will be about national security, competence, and accountability. Grier has credentials in all three, Liddy Dole is bankrupt across the board.

Dont we have a strong NC senator

that could easly make the move from offices in Raliegh to Doles offices on the 5th floor in DC?

Have any of you seen those offices? I could LIVE in them, and live comfortably, and when the little one comes visiting, she can be on one side and I would never hear her, if I so decided. (friends kid).

Dole is getting way to much money and way to many perks to NOT represent us. She has to go.....back to Kansas and live with her husband.

Where are the family values in this woman? Her husband lives in Kansas, she in DC. How can we expect her to support and protect families in our state when she does not wish to be around her own husband? Nope, she has no family values. She loses my vote there.

Dream Candidate: Elizabeth Edwards

Great candidate in his own right: the Hon. Grier Martin.

Anglico left out the whole part about his degree. BTW, did you know Princeton is calling itself the Davidson of the North now?

1 Thessalonians 5:21: But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.

I always wanted to be the avenging cowboy hero—that lone voice in the wilderness, fighting corruption and evil wherever I found it, and standing for freedom, truth and justice. - Bill Hicks

He is definitely tempted.

Now that the field is open, I know he's thinking it through. He'll have to do some due diligence, though, to make sure the backing will be there when he decides. And he also has a young family he has to consider.

Grier has so much to offer North Carolina . . . and even more to offer our country . . . especially now. Please write to him and let him know you're behind him.

I do that almost every day.

:)

I'll do just that.

The least I can do beyond that is offer my assistance as needed and some non-sent-to-Larry-Kissell donations.

Request to Grier Martin

Thanks Anglico for your suggestion. Below is an exerpt of what I sent to Mr. Martin:

I have been a long time reader and recent contributor to BlueNC. I wanted to request something from you.
Realizing that you have spent many years representing not only North Carolina, but your Country as well, I would like to request you consider the following. Let me explain, then I will ask for that which I would like to request of you.

The State of North Carolina is on the verge of turning Blue, nationally. I've spent a good amount of time talking with friends, co-workers, etc. and it has become obvious to me that this will happen. Yet, it will only happen if we put forth the best candidates.

Why is this important? It is important because in these United States, the Southern States are considered free reign for the Republican party to wallow in. I say no. Not in North Carolina!

We are ready to turn the corner, so to speak, and I'm guessing you understand this is the case. We need to do a number of things in North Carolina. First we need to elect excellent Democratic candidates to national as well as State representation. Right now, we need to do so nationally. Once we show that North Carolina not only supports a State Democratic House of Representatives, a State Democratic Senate and the defeat of Liddy Dole in the 2008 US Senate election, I feel the rest of the South will fall like dominos. The American people want true representation. The American people know for sure that they have not received that for the past six years. North Carolina and our talented politicians with the support of engaged constituents can be the starting point to bring this action about.

Now to my request. We, here in North Carolina, currently have a US Senator from Kansas that is not representing our State nor our People. This is completely unacceptable. How do we correct this? We correct this by having our best possible Democratic candidate oppose Liddy Dole in the general election in 2008. My belief, and the belief of many others in North Carolina is that you would be our best Democratic candidate to oppose our do-nothing-Senator from Kansas in 2008. My request then is that you would consider putting your name into the hat to represent the Democratic nomination for US Senate in 2008.

We will support you any way we can and do what is needed to assist you in any way we can to see your candidacy through to the end. The end being your election to the US Senate as a US Senator from the Great State of North Carolina.

North Carolina. Turning the South Blue!

Fabulous letter!

How could he resist!

That would be an easy win for Democratic

North Carolina and the United States overall. But it's just a dream...
