Transparent Pat

Happy Anniversary! Today is the 1-year mark since WRAL requested public record emails from Guvnor Pat.

One year after WRAL News requested emails from Gov. Pat McCrory's office under North Carolina's public records law, his staff has so far failed to produce a single document.

Remember when Pat was running for governor and promised ethical, accountable transparent government?

Yeah, Pat is ethical, accountable and transparent.

And pigs are routinely flying at supersonic speed.

To be fair

Perhaps WRAL made an unreasonably, complex public records request that really does require a year to fulfill.

Or perhaps not.

Given the size of the request and the legal mandate, a year-long wait is "absolutely unreasonable," said Jonathan Jones, director of the North Carolina Open Government Coalition at Elon University.

"These records should be fairly easy to locate and should be fairly easy to vet," Jones said. "There's no reason why it should take 12 months to turn over copies of the public's business to an entity that would like to see how the public's business is being conducted."

"I will have a priority on building relationships with the minority caucus. I want to put substance behind those campaign speeches." -- Thom Tillis, Nov. 5, 2014
