Thanks to Trump, election meddling is now acceptable behavior

Republican voters are being encouraged to skew SC's Democratic Primary:

South Carolina has open primaries where voters can choose which party’s primary, if there is more than one to choose from, to vote in. But the Republicans pushing their members to vote for Sanders want to change that, saying on Facebook they want to ”point out the consequences of not closing the primaries in SC to just those voters who participate in each party” — a goal they can accomplish if enough Republicans turn out at the polls on Feb. 29.

They also see another benefit in helping Sanders win. “We want to be able to have a say in giving Donald Trump that opportunity in November to face Bernie in the debate, give a clear look to American voters, here’s your capitalist success story and here’s your socialist,” said Karen Martin, who is the organizer of the Spartanburg Tea Party.

They're not the sharpest tools in the shed, to say the least. Supposedly worried about SC's open Primary, and how (imaginary) Democrats abuse it, so they're going to abuse the hell out of it just to make a point. Isn't that like shooting up a school full of children just to expose how vulnerable they are? Yes, it is. It's also a common development with people who have held a paranoid delusion too long without uncovering evidence to back it up; they create their own evidence. Operation Chaos was originally dreamed up by Rush Limbaugh back in 2008, to sew discord in the Clinton Obama Primary. And it's very likely this new effort isn't just SC Tea Party nonsense, it's part of a broader effort by Republicans to meddle in Democratic affairs. Like flooding the Iowa Caucus Hotline with prank calls to clog the line:

The Iowa caucus hotline number is posted publicly (and prominently) on the state Democratic party website. It’s also easy to find with a quick Google search. But after that phone number spread more widely online — including on the messaging board 4chan, according to NBC News — calls from internet trolls and supporters of President Trump reportedly started overwhelming workers answering the hotline.

Staff and volunteers started flagging and blocking repeat callers suspected of purposefully clogging the lines, according to the party. Party officials said veterans of caucus operations “described the volume of calls as highly irregular compared to previous caucuses.”

One 4chan poster was quoted by NBC as writing “they have to call in the results now. Very long hold times being reported. Phone line being clogged” — to which another poster responded: “Uh oh how unfortunate it would be for a bunch of mischief makers to start clogging the lines.” NBC reported that 4chan users “repeatedly posted the phone number for the Iowa Democratic Party ... both as screenshots and in plain text, alongside instructions.”

And what was the result from the delays in reporting? Democrats across the country going apeshit and cooking up conspiracy theories about DNC meddling. That's right, Republicans meddle, but we blame our own. Republicans spend over a million dollars running ads for a NC candidate for U.S. Senate, and we argue with each other about how we should vote.

Here's the truth: Trump (and Russia) got away with meddling in the 2016 Election, and Trump just got away with using his office to meddle in the 2020 Election. As far as Republicans are concerned, there is no longer any reason why they shouldn't do things like this. They're like fucking children; break a window and nothing happens, break all the damn windows.
