Shooting the breeze

Let's cast aside politics for a bit. Discuss whatever. I'll start off.

Anyone else here an auto racing fan? I've been a NASCAR fan since 4th Grade, and I got into Formula One pretty hard core not long after that. I tried to get into CART/Champ Car and IRL, but I just didn't enjoy it as much, although I keep up with it some and do enjoy watching the Indy 500 every where. Maybe the series will get better with the merger of the two series. In general, I love watching or driving anything with four wheels and a motor.

Scatawhatical?

Just kidding.

I'm glad Paige is here and working hard to find a place. That said, I have a strict prohibition against attending to any sport that is based on oil and gas consumption. If I were running for office, the NASCAR moms and dads would not find much to like about me.

I've found my place, thank you.

My hard work is in hopefully one day convincing you all of the value of this place. It doesn't have to be in a particular Party; it's about a particular principle.

The great thing is, James, that the technology in racing moving in a greener direction. This is certainly the case in Formula One, where the best automobile technology in the world exists. Team Honda is explicitly advertising Green, eschewing the hundred million dollar sponsors that have typically been necessary to fund competitive teams in Formula One. (Unless you are Ferrari, and pretty much all you do is construct exclusive sports cars and run for Formula One championships)

NASCAR is quite a bit behind, but looking at the sagging attendance that has gradually developed over the last few years, they're going to need a lot more than Kyle Busch punting Dale, Jr. to boost their figures.

Wowsers

That's so . . . interesting of you. You're here to convince us of the value of this place. How noble.

I had no idea how involved you were with the inception and the driving force behind this blog.

And on top of that, NASCAR is going to try to pitch itself as 'Green.' The entire concept of NASCAR is antithetical to GREEN, but we're supposed to see it as progress that the advertising will be politically correct.

Impressive

Grandiose,

Nevertheless.

The Rock

Rockingham has opened up again for races.

I watched the Daytona 500

a few years back. We were rooting for Jr. I was surprised actually to find it very interesting and exciting. Didn't think I would. My arm had been twisted into watching it.

But I have this aversion to noise. I don't have a washer or dryer at home because I despise the constant noise. Although I love watching basketball and soccer, for recreation myself, I prefer to be on the water or in the woods or fishing. Quiet. .... mmmmmm ....

"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

I went to the Canadian Grand Prix

in Montreal a couple of years ago:

Sorry, I'm...easily distracted. The race was pretty cool, too.

Oh geez Steve

Would you call these "girls" or "women?"

LOL!!!

;) funny, Steve. :-D Thanks for the chuckle.

What year?

I'm looking at going this year.

I went to the British Grand Prix last year when I was studying at LSE. As a McLaren fan, I was quite hopeful after the start, but the Ferrari was just too strong.

I greatly fear we're going to see more of what we saw earlier in the decade, when Ferrari and Schumi were whooping everyone. I've always known how good Kimi is, and the combination of his talent and Ferrari's engineering is just brutal.

McLaren rocks :)

And so does Montreal during the Grand Prix. I went a couple of years ago (2006?), but I waited too long before looking for accomodations (I'm a cheap bastard). So I got a cheap hotel in Burlington Vermont, caught the 05:30 a.m. (yawn) bus to Montreal and rode the Metro/walked out to the Islands to watch the race.

Just a note: Vermont was cool also. I was only there for three days, but there were a couple of different festivals going on and some of the coolest people I've ever met. It was a nice surprise.

You know, that picture of Dole is creeping me out.

Two things come to mind:

The first is that she looks like an evil villain from the Smurf cartoon, kind of like a cross between the Wicked Witch of the West and Smurfette after bad surgery.

The second is also from a cartoon; I keep hearing "Put up ya dooks, put up ya dooks. I'll moiderize ya."

So yeah, even though we didn't get a tv full time until I was 12 years old, I still managed to warp my brain via watching Looney Tunes etc.

Person County Democrats

I actively oppose gerrymandering. Do you?

I thought she looked like

Julia Sweeney doing a satirical portrayal of Dole. Scary, regardless.
However, in my head, she sounds more like Burt Lahr as the Cowardly Lion - "C'mon.. put up yer dukes."

Racing.

I used to go to asphalt track races back in high school, but partly that was for the kegs and the girls. Still it was a hoot to stand on the dirt bank at turn 3 and whoop and holler for your favorites. My sister married into a racing family and they went racing pretty much every weekend until the last couple years. My Dad is a big NASCAR fan. I've watched quite a few races on TV over the years, but nothing is as cool as the roar of being on the track. When we were in Myrtle Beach we went to a race that was Busch series, first time I ever heard the real cars. Oh. My. God. It was a small track, so we were right on the side and it was deafening.

Still, it made the adrenaline pump.

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.
