Reflection Open Thread

I posted this quote in a comment, but since first reading it a couple of weeks ago, it has really affected the way that I look at some things:

Many are stubborn in pursuit of the path they have chosen, few in pursuit of the goal.
-- Nietzsche

What does this make you think of? Or if you do not like my prompt, talk about whatever you want.

Interesting you should do this...

it made me stop and think just a few seconds ago when you posted it. I wonder if it isn't perhaps either:
a) the most brilliant thing I've ever read, or
b) like a horoscope, designed to "fit" everyone and every situation, or
c) all of the above.

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

Either way

I think the world would run better if people were goal oriented and not so set in the structure they have created.

Transportation/ highways

To me I think of the interstate highway system. Started as a way t ospark interstate travel and an efficient system to move goods and possibly soldiers across the country. Now we are building interstates to take local traffic from Cary to Brier Creek. The interstates come with many problems and lead to sprawl out of the city which causes more traffic problems than they solve.

Or to look at transportation generally. We built our system around the automobile because we were expanding in the '60's and cars and gas were plentiful. Now we have become dependent on gas based automobiles despite the fact that we know of the harm to the environment, we have better alternatives, and gas is not going to be so plentiful in the future.

Ruby touched on this elsewhere

suburbia was "caused" by the expansion of the road system and cheap gas. Perhaps the redefining of our cities and culture will be "caused" by the high gas prices and lack of places to grow.

Personally, I live in a suburban development, but of a village type with a central green where we watch movies and listen to music, a bookstore and grocery store we walk to nearly everyday, and restaurants and bars beside them.

If we have to build out, perhaps we could use this model to cut down on the non-work related travel. Of course, in my case, I get to ride the bus to work and hope to soon transition to biking into work.

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

Southern Village?

There are ways to do it right. And there are ways to do development very wrong. We should just be sure that we are doing it the right way.

This quote strikes me as being progressive

At least in that the new progressive movement is a response to a party that has consistently put ideology (the path) over real and positive change (the goal). I'd also like to think that the conceptual difference between "progressive" and "liberal" is a willingness to revisit doctrine and apply a flexible approach to getting things done.

Man, you guys are just way too deep for me this morning

I'm just happy that I have most of my house ready. I only have a couple of rooms left and a little more culling of crap in the attic and we're done. We're hiring a handyman to do the outside stuff. My days of climbing ladders are pretty much over.

The house will be listed in two weeks....that's my prediction. If I had been goal oriented I could have met my original goal of having the house ready in May. I would have had to quit blogging competely to meet that goal. This time I was stubborn in the path (blogging) I had chosen.

Not a very deep interpretation of that quote. Face it, I'm shallow. :)

Makes me think of Pentagon Propaganda

Heard this story on NPR this morning....

Pentagon's Fine Line: War Machine, P.R. Machine

The U.S. military doesn't do all its public relations work overseas -- it's also investing in grass-roots efforts here at home.

The Pentagon's "America Supports You" program employs Pentagon staff and private PR contractors to coordinate activities that support the armed forces. "Freedom Walk" marches, letter-writing campaigns, even articles in kids' Weekly Reader, are all paid for by the Pentagon itself.

apparently, none of the kids responded to the article in their Weekly Reader!

One recent effort is a campaign to get people at major league baseball games to "text-message" their support to the troops on their cell phones... even though those messages aren't actually sent to the troops.

My question then is Why bother? the Pentagon now in the business of enriching phone companies? So if they aren't sent to the troops, who are they sent to? Is this just another way to get more names on the NSA list?

Much of the publicity work has been farmed out to a private firm, Susan Davis International. For the first year of America Supports You, the firm signed Pentagon contracts for at least $2.7 Million.

Wonder if this company is another subsid of Halliburton....or possibly the Carlyle group?

My point being that the

My point being that the "stay the course" path the bush admin is spouting isn't working, so their goal is to propagandize this war until we are all on the same "path"!

Funny how some just love to be abused and have their pocket picked!

Got this wonderful tag in an email the other day....believe it applies to all the good Patriots here:

In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man; brave, hated, and scorned. When his cause succeeds, however, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.

I love how you think.

And write.

Very glad to have you around here!

Thanks Anglico

Thanks, I'm equally glad I found this site! I live in very red Moore County!

Even the poor guys in Robbins, the northern part of the county....the ones who have lost their mill jobs, are Republicans.

I do what I can to fight the good fight and bring truth and reason to our little piece of Heaven!

News from the Kissell Camp

Here is an item from Larry Kissell running for NC 8th District against Robin Hayes:

Hundreds MORE out of work in the 8th District

Robin Hayes' Free Trade Betrayal Continues Toll on NC Families

Kissell: "The only concessions I'm seeing in the 8th district are the ones families make as they work to hold on to their homes and businesses in this tough economic time."

In a statement, John Hurston, Senior Vice President of manufacturing for WestPoint Home, called the closing "a necessary step as we continue to streamline our domestic manufacturing base in conjunction with the expansion of our manufacturing capabilities overseas." One devastated plant employee said "We've had people leave our plant to go to Pakistan to show them how to run looms."

It is time for Robin Hayes to realize that switching his vote on CAFTA is a firing offense," said Kissell.

This time exactly one year ago Robin Hayes assured North Carolina working families "Every time I drive through Kannapolis and I see those empty plants I know there is no way I could vote for CAFTA." [AP 7/14/2005]

Hayes also said "What does CAFTA sound like? NAFTA.... It's not in the best interests of a core constituency I represent." [ Raleigh News and Observer, 7/14/2005]

"NAFTA plus CAFTA equals SHAFTA," said Kissell.

This PIG - Robin Hayes - has been feeding at the "taxpayer" trough long enough! He needs to be replaced with a person like Kissell who not only understands the plight of the working "Joe" but is available to listen!

Good comment, but...

you may want to use the Quote tab from now on. I would hate for your "This PIG" to be attributed to Larry. Although, I don't mind it being attributed to me.

Thanks Robert...but

I haven't gotten the hang of these buttons yet, they aren't working right for me (i'm not a techi type) is there any tutorial where i can read up?

You can always put

blockquote in between the to start your quote and then /blockquote between the to end your quote. Let's see if that works....

Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own.

That worked!

Thanks Southern Dem!

that didn't work...

ok,I'll stop playing and taking up space!

How's this:

I'm sorry the buttons aren't working. They rely on javascript, so if you have that disabled they won't work for you. Here's the old fashioned way:

<strong>bold text</strong> = bold text
<em>italic (emphasized) text</em> = italic (emphasized) text
<u>underlined</u> = underlined
<s>struck through</s> = struck through
<a href="">BlueNC</a> = BlueNC (don't forget the http:// and the quotation marks)

you forgot...

whoop whoop = whoop whoop

Browser tag

The automatic tags don't seem to work in earlier versions of Internet Explorer and have to be done manually or done in another html editor and pasted.

Simplest thing may be to upgrade your browser or use Firefox browser.

strong in between the to bold your selected words and then /strong between the to end

Using dial up at work...

It will probably work better on my home computer...have RR and mozillafirefox...

you have dialup at work????

I hope you have some resumes printed up...

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

Yes and Yes Robert

Have dial up at work....out of high speed area

have resume typed up too!

WoooHooo, 5 pm, time to go home! Will bbl!

Here's the link....i hope

Link TextFormer CIA officer sues Cheney, Libby, Rove over leak

Good job. I love this if only because it might bring some transparency to this act of treason.

Lance...a question

when i link, i hilight the text that i want people to click on, right click and copy, press the chain link button, go to the other window and copy, come back here and paste it into the bar that comes up when i press the chain link, then paste and press ok...still comes up with that "link text" it done differently here?

No, That's About Right

When you click on the chain icon and then paste in your URL, the result will always be "Link Text" no matter what was highlighted before. I hate that behavior -- I wish that you could highlight the text and turn that into a link as on every other website ever created. But there you go.

I tried futzing around with the operational javascript, but it's just beyond me. If any jscript wizards are reading this and want to fix this up right, lemme know.

Got a message from the RNC

Since i signed up for a pug blog...i get messages from Melhman occasionally....they're always good for a this one:

Love this woman's name: Mercy Schlapp, host of "In The Know,"'s interactive Web show.

Here's what you'll find in our latest edition of "In the Know"
Watch the President thank our troops during his surprise visit to Iraq, and learn why Republican Representative Patrick McHenry thinks winning in Iraq is vital to our ultimate success in the war on terror.

Wonder if they plan on winning the war in Iraq or the propaganda war back home?

Be on hand at the annual volunteer deployment kick-off event in Washington, as the honorable Karl Rove and Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman energize the party's volunteer core for the November elections.

Honorable? They wouldn't know honor if they were Mercy Slapped with it!

Experience the beautiful sounds and celebrations of Black Music Month as we visit the Gulf Coast region with President Bush.

OK, is there ANYONE left in America that doesn't know that the Republican party is only interested in Blacks and the Gulf Coast region during election time?

Watch as the democrats try to cut-and-run... on the softball diamond! Get on the field as the RNC goes up against the DNC in the annual softball match-up, and find out who came out on top.

Oh I do hope we Mercy Slapp them!

Keep 'em coming.

Reading and sharing what the enemy says is critical. reading the NC GOP platform, for example, blew me away. Their policy priorities are insane.

The truth is, I didn't used to think of Republicans as the enemy. In fact, I was raised as one. But their passion for dominance, for controlling others, for constraining human freedom, is frightening to me. And their extremism must be met with equal and opposite force.

There are plenty of people who want to compromise, people who call for us to meet the enemy in the middle. And god bless them for being willing to do that.

But I'm not. Meeting them in the middle slides everything to the right. And I'm not going there.

All Of this SOUNDS LIKE.......

A good plan to me! But, Will it work! Of course useing this thread we could come out with a new slogan kinda like,

Dear Mr. & Ms. Corrupt Politician, You should now realize the full extent of your actions, cause I thought it time you knew,

Lance, may not be Tom Cruise, And Anglico,He cannot be used
And to the common man,The everyday Joe, you may have given up and think ,Well It's no Use, I've blown my last fuse,

But here, At BlueNC ,No job is too big,And no corrupt politician is too small,
The Yadkin river isn't to wide and no building in Raleigh is too tall,

Cause we are now called ,"Mission BlueNC-Mission Possible", And our chief tracker Robert, will put you in the sights of his laser,
Cause he likes to have fun with it , Mainly because it beats a Taser,

Cause were here to stay, We dig up the truth, And that is no Bull,
So when ,The Bull of politicians you have become full,

Then it's time to call BlueNC and Lance because after all,
If your courrupt,If you are a liar, If you steal taxpayers money, Then for this ,Lance & Angelico will make you take the Total Fall!

Welcome back Dan!

Good to see you out and about again . . .
