Race for Governor Just Got a bit Thinner

Roy Cooper sent letters to friends and supporters letting them know he would be running for re-election in 2008 and would not pursue the Governor's office.

There is no reason given. The Charlotte Observer has the story.

Anybody else hearing anything about this? Parts of the story were odd, especially the speculation about which candidate would benefit with Cooper out. Apparently, North Carolinians can't tell the difference between two white men with different names. Last I checked we didn't have photo ballots.

This is good news.

A friend recently asked me to help Cooper out in the fundraising department and I said I would, but only if I could make my check out to Roy Cooper for Attorney General. He's probably heard similar sentiments from others as well.

Let me be among the first to congratulate Mr. Cooper on a smart decision, and to wish him well in his bid for governor in 2016.

I thought you were kidding.

Cooper and Moore look somewhat alike, furthering the idea that the two would compete for many of the same voters.

But they really said that.

I cannot believe they said that. Imagine if there were a Black person in the race: now he would be assured to win because his skin color contrasts the other candidates. What were they thinking?

Also, do they really look all that much alike. They both have black hair and all, but I think there is a considerable height difference and some feature difference. Look below:

Come on, look at the ears.

Completely different.

And sorry, I meant to only get the headshot, not the whole banner, but now you know where I stole the pictures from.

Also, for the record, I was and am a Cooper supporter.

I like Roy too...

and it may only be that I know more about him. Do you think he might choose to challenge Burr in 2010? Does he have what it takes to win a Senate race?

McCaskill in MO is AG

She's tied with Talent. Plus, duh, I forgot, Easley was AG before winning Governorship. So, I would guess it is a good launching platform.

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

Roy vs Burr 2010

would be a good show. Roy has done a good job as AG. I am glad he made this decision - we need some of the incumbet Dems in statewide seats to stay put and run in 2008. Having too many statewide seats open at the same time as the 2008 is not a good idea. 2008 will be a big election year:

President (open)
Senate (Dole vs ?)
Governor (open)
Lt Gov (open?, running for Gov?)

Will Easley run for Senate? Will Moore and Marshall run for Senate, Governor, or stay put where they are?

I'd love to see

a Senate race between Gov. Easley and DC/GOP-elite Liddy Dole. I have no doubt we'd have a new Dem Senator from NC if that happened.

"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

Troubling in Cooper's banner

Is that someone decided to desaturate the "citizens" by about 50%. "Cooper: For NC's Washed Out Masses." Bad design choice.

I always thought that all white guys look alike...and now you've proven it.

No wonder the Observer was worried.

Yup...they really said that

and that's the astute political analysis I've come to love from the Charlotte Observer.

I didn't sticky this....

At least...I don't remember checking that box. Sorry, guys. I didn't mean for this to stay at the top.

I didn't want anyone to think I felt my posts should always be up top.....
