Quarantine lecture series: Keith Payne on implicit bias

Comments

About halfway through

he has them go through an exercise where they slap their knees in response to white or black names (Scott, DeShawn), and that reminded me of something I asked people to do on a community Facebook page during our last election cycle (2019).

The subject was sidewalks, and whether or not we could afford to build more, or if people would even use them. Anyway, I asked people to close their eyes and picture somebody walking down the side of the road, and then speculate why they were doing so. Then I asked them to close their eyes and picture somebody walking on a sidewalk, and then speculate why they were doing so.

I never received any negative or snarky comments about sidewalks after that.
