It wasn't too long ago that we were hearing teachers cannot be trusted to assess the progress of their students and we needed all kinds of tests run by outside businesses (at big expense) to see how our kids were doing in school. It is so nice to see Sen. Jerry Tillman has a newfound trust in our teachers:
“The good teachers are doing informal assessments all the time, and they already know what they’re doing…"
He has introduced SB 242, a bill to eliminate Personal Education Plans, or PEPs. These have been used to identify students who need extra help but don't qualify for the Individual Ed Plan, or IEP. He trusts our teachers so much he says the PEPs are just a bunch of unnecessary paperwork.
Let's hope his assessment of our teachers will result in better funded classrooms and raises for all our teachers--they do such a good job.
