Bad news for five staff members at the Winston-Salem Journal. Just got this by email:
Journal to trim sections, staff to reduce costs
The Winston-Salem Journal will eliminate its daily business-news section, combine some Sunday sections and eliminate five positions to reduce costs, the Journal’s president and publisher said yesterday in a letter to employees.
The Journal no longer will publish a separate business-news section, except on Sundays. Instead, two pages will be added to the Local section during the week for business news and stocks of local interest. In addition, the Sunday Living and Arts sections will be combined into one section with a focus on arts coverage.
Miller said that the Journal will continue to invest in its Web site and online products, which he said are “growing at a solid pace.” Of the five positions eliminated, two were in the news department.
Looks like the beginning of a slow and painful death to me.

Report from the clerk's office
More later but they had McHenry's original disclosures as a candidate which is fun. And no, he didn't file that Schedule IV transactions for 2005 (either the original filing or the amendment).
And that was the year he acquired the Hickory condo. I'd thought it was also the year he acuired some Charlotte property on Pete Brown road. I don't think he reported it in his first annual disclosure. But now it looks like he already owned the Charlotte property because it's listed when he was just a candidate. So, that's another unreported asset, this time in his 2004 report that he filed in 2005.
I'm gonna put the details together with the jpegs and post something at Kos and MyDD probably Monday. So I'll bug everyone for recommendations then.
Perhaps we should call for McHenry to release his tax returns to clear the record on any financial irregularities. Doesn't that sound like an angle?

That is like asking Dick Cheney to show you his lastest surging Waterboard collection. Call him and say he has won the Canadian Native Tribe Oil lottery and now owns half of Hudson Bay. Tell him it is tax exempt from American law, but you need his last American Tax return so the Canadian government won't send him their outrageous socialist tax forms.
We can ask. It's just a strategy
He's forms are not accurate. There's clear inconsistencies with contradictory public documentation. Clear all this up with the IRS documents and the scandal goes away. Refuse to release them and we'll know that the inconsistencies had nothing to do with human error and everything to do with hiding income that, for some reason, had to be kept hidden from citizens who are depending on their Congressman to represent them above special financial interests.

Makes sense to me, DQ
Keep the pressure on. Keep asking the questions. Something just doesn't seem right there. It could all be honest mistakes. But it sure doesn't seem like it, does it?

No. The oversight was made six times in a year
The page where he would list the purchase is missing from the original report AND the amended report for the same year. In opensecrets dot org and at the database in the House clerk's office. Then he didn't report it as an asset the year he bought it or the next. He also checked the NO box in the front page of both the original report AND the amended report where it asks
Hard to imagine that's all an oversight. Especially when it's the place where you are living. But I'm not sure of that. It's just that the only other property he lists that doesn't earn rent is in Charlotte. So, either he's renting somewhere OR he's living in this cond
News of the 10th district: See Pat Go Bye Bye,
You're allowed to exclude your personal residence
as an asset and as a transaction. I don't know why . . . but then he'd have to admit he lives in Hickory/Catawba when he's been voting all this time in Cherryville/Gaston . . .

OK - just playing devil's advocate
You're sure it's the same Patrick McHenry? (Of course you are or you wouldn't have posted this.) I was raised in a lawyer's house, and he would have asked me this question about 4 posts ago.

No, I need devil's advocates
Yes, he's the only Patrick Pimothy McHenry in the voter files. That's his full name in the Congressional reoprts. He's always described as being from Cherryville.
But, as I wrote below, it's not clear to me if he's going to claim the condo as a residence, how he decides which one is his legal one for voting.
And he's still neglected to report for two different years some land he owned in Charlotte. And when he added it to the 2005 report, he wrote that there were no changes from the original except delineating land from his partnerships, and that's not true. So, the anomalies continue. It's just may have an excuse for the unreported condo.

"Pimothy"
How did he go so wrong with parents that into alliteration. Maybe they were hippies and it turned him against the progressive movement.

Or maybe they dropped him on his head
That would explain a lot.
My bad. It's Timothy
not Pimothy. but he looks like a Pimothy, doesn't he?
That whole comment needs a spell check but once you've replied I'm stuck with my inadequacies . . .

I think this is the core issue
Voter fraud and Patty Mac go together like tar and feathers.
Yeah, A, even if it's legal to exclude the condo, he's hiding
something. He's got land in Charlotte that he declared ownership as a candidate, then failed to list in 2004 and in his original 2005 report. He only lists it in 2005 when he amends his original report so as to list all the properties the partnership owns. He writes a letter saying there's no other changes but the Pete Brown property shows up all of a sudden and it wasn't owned by either of his partnerships. So, something's wrong there.
But after reading the fine print legible from the copies the clerk's office charged me for (and which aren't available in the district), it seems obvious he thought he could call the condo his residence which he had no obligation to report. At the SBOE it says he lives at 403 E. First Street Cherryville and voted three times there AFTER purchasing the Hickory condo. Perhaps he's the kind of guy who has two homes in the district and one in DC? That's high living for the 10th!
I haven't looked up the laws but how does a person decide which one is his residence for voting and drivers license purposes?

You were there?
Dang. Where were you? I saw Sam (had to yell at him across the parking lot since he gave me grief about not saying hello when I saw him at the lege building) and Jerimee, too. I was near the back, next to the door to the bar. :)
"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."
I was there too
and met Sam and Marshall. I looked for you lcloud but what a sea of people!

I looked for you too,

I was in the front to the right of the stage.
The next time there is one of these things, we'll have to have a "group" or something on here so we can exchange cellphone numbers or something.
Actually - we should make Sam the gathering point. We can always see him over the crowd. Damn, but you're a tall tall man, Sam.

You probably DID see me....
I was the guy bouncing around taking pictures.
I gave Jerimee the card (he'd better send it back!) full of mediocre photos.
