Open Thread - Stuffed with Turkey and Pie edition

Today held a few surprises that have kept me away from the computer. Traffic is slow with most folks traveling, shopping, spending time with family or still recovering from their turkey coma.

Ya got something to say, you can say it here.

Happy, happy, y'all.

I have soup on

with a huge ham bone in it....and beans...and onions....and peppers and sausage....and vegetables.....it smells good. The girls have named it "refrigerator stew".....'cause we cleaned out the refrigerator to make it. :)

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Absolutely lovely! A sprig of thyme

would enhance, but I'm just a backseat chef.

If anyone has a piece of Pecan Pie to spare, please e-mail it to me. My wife isn't into it, and I really think the store bought Pecan Pie is substandard.

I wish I could.

My dogs made their way into the pie pantry - pulled out ONLY the pecan pie - and devoured it. :::sigh:::

Now I'll have to make another one.

OH, but to be a dog at your home.

I was going to write a poem, so many possibilities, but I decided that for the sake of Pecan Pie, I would spare you. And I might even get a piece of the new pie e-mailed to me if I don't wax poetically.

Sorry for your loss. Please accept one of my cats as a play toy to keep the dogs busy and out of your pantry.
Let me know where I may e-mail said kitty.

I have to say - my pecan pie is legendary in my family.

and our two cats may have been complicit in the stealing of the pie - so I'm not sure that the emailing of your kitty would help.

However, the next time I bake a pecan pie, I will save you a piece and beam it over to you before the animals in my home get to it. :)

GONE

The mighty hoard that was staying at my house over the last three nights are gone: mother, brother, his wife and child, aunt, cousin and her two kids.

Peace and quiet have returned, as much as possible with a 3 year old and 7 year old still running around

Oh MY!

That's a crowd.

We've had a quiet couple of days, but Katie's boyfriend has returned from out of town. He and his buddies will be over tomorrow riding their dirt bikes and four wheelers in our back yard. Everything is fine until I have four to six 12, 13 & 14-yr-old boys get hungry. Of course, I really don't mind. They're good kids....loud...but good.

I came to the realization that my house is trying to kill me.

I have had some nagging health problems that started soon after moving into this old, moldy house that I am temporarily renting. After the weather turned cooler, and I went to using heat 24/7 with the house sealed; the problems got worse.
Two nights at my brother's house and I feel much better (hell, it was one night). I suspect mold in the ducts and probably many other places.
So I bought a space heater, a hepa filter and loaded the car up with firewood at my brother's. I opened the house up last night - doors, windows and fans all wide open. It got real cold, but no health worries cropped up. I now have the fireplace and hepa filter going and have attacked one mold source, the main (leaky) bathroom, with cleaner (while wearing a repsirator).
So I have something extra to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

Thanks A (or J.). But two years, yuck!! I would not want to

put up with this nonsense for 2 years. I trust your family returned to 100% health upon moving out.

It's actually a bit like camping out, which I have enthusiastically enjoyed for most of my life. I'd just rather not have to pay a serious chunk of rent for the priviledge.

We've been dealing with the same thing

and found it very helpful to have a contractor who specializes in mold identification and removal to come in and identify all of the sources and spots that needed attention. Most of the places we could deal with ourselves. If you're renting, your landlord should pay for that, or at least split the cost with you. It's worth the cost.
