Rip it up, boys and gurgles

It's only Monday night . . . and the Tubes are already full. Gonna be a loooooooong week.

Where to begin...where to begin

How about with the clerk at Home Depot who somehow managed to add too much yellow to my paint even though I had the lid from the last gallon with the correct mixture on it and now I have to repaint my stairwell and up hall. I don't really want to talk about it, but you have to picture someone crying so hard she laughed to get an idea of how I felt. It's a good thing my dog can't use the phone. she might have had me committed.

With all the confiding and crying

Your dog may be the one who needs to be committed! (I've got four I've completely driven round the bend, I'm sure, because they are, indeed, people.)

And I've been through the paint fiasco. I hurt for you. Seriously. How long is the hallway?

The Den
My darling girl, when will you understand that 'normal' isn't necessarily a virtue. It rather denotes a lack of courage." - Alice Hoffman, Practical Magic

It runs almost the entire length of the house

The worst part is the stairwell, but the good news there is that the "new" color of paint is what finished off the second story, so I don't have to pull out the massively long and hard to handle extension pole. I swear I'm going to see those silver linings if it kills me! I'll get it done today. If you see me around you know I'm practicing avoidance behavior. :)

Lizzy did roll her eyes at me yesterday. She's taking after her oldest sister.

That paint thing

has happened to me too. How much do you charge?

Lovex7

Charge?

I'm sure we could work something out, but I'd have to come live with you for a while. You know why I'm not a fast painter.

Askew-Taylor

Askew-Taylor Paints and Art Supplies is a Raleigh fixture that started out as a paint store and is now essentially an art and craft store supplying many Raleigh artists. When they still sold Benjamin Moore paints Kirk Taylor and his late father would match paint colors by eye. (Formulas didn't always work, as pigments changed). The best part was that you could browse through the art supplies while waiting for the paint to dry and find something you needed with an old price tag.

But it is the uncanny accuracy of Taylor and his father, now deceased, in mixing colors to exact hues that made Askew-Taylor the paint store of choice for hundreds of residents and professional painters.

Most paint stores use computers to match up samples, but the owners mixed paint by eye, relying on years of experience. Once a customer's exact color was determined, the formula was recorded on an index card awaiting their next order.

Nowadays "painters" make a rectangular cut in sheetrock in an inconspicuous area and peel off the top layer of paper with the existing paint for a computer match. Limited human interaction and/or random experiences.

Well...there was no need to peel off sheetrock

all this paint is new/fresh. I picked the color and had it mixed. Have bought many gallons over the past few months and had only the upper portion of the stairwell to paint. It's in shadow and doesn't matter, but where the upper met the lower has an obvious problem. That should have been the final gallon. Sigh.

Cool paint matching story, though.

The Gladiator.

Archaeologists discovered the image of the ancient brawler just outside Rome at the residence of Emperor Commodus. The movie version of Commodus, played by actor Joaquin Phoenix, was Maximus' enemy.

Researchers say the pictured fighter was probably a star gladiator fancied by the real Commodus, who was an enthusiast of blood sports.

Riccardo Frontoni, an archaeologist working with Rome's Department of Cultural Heritage, came across the mosaic while digging in a field near the remains of the Villa dei Quintili, Commodus' countryside residence. The dwelling is found along the Via Appia Antica, an ancient way that connected Rome to southern Italy.

"It's a rather poor piece on the artistic side, black and white and not too detailed," Frontoni said.

"Historically it's noteworthy because it doesn't depict a fantasy or mythological scene, but real people from everyday life: a gladiator and a referee in the act of proclaiming him winner," he added

Wow

A governor lived on foodstamps for a week. Story

Kulongoski said the "food-stamp challenge," which ends Sunday night, has given him new insight into the plight of the working poor and just how stressful and time-consuming it can be to lay in groceries that are nutritious, much less tasty.

"Keep the Faith"

Kulongoski's an interesting guy.

I didn't involve myself much in Oregon politics, since I hated it there and couldn't wait to get the hell out, but I recall he sounded like a real progressive kind of guy, and he advocated health coverage, too.

He Should Try Living on that Budget

Without Food Stamps.

You get real creative, real quick - or you go hungry.

Often, the best foods are too expensive for someone making do on food stamps, and the affordable items tend to be high in fat and carbohydrates.

Frankly, I'm tired of my winter diet of chicken and rice (my book - 200 Ways to Fix Chicken) that's why you haven't been seeing me much. I'm out in the yard planting veg.

When everything is in ... ... ... I'll be back.
You have been warned. :)

WoW....tomorrow
