An open letter to the people "represented" by Pat McHenry

I confess, I'm at a loss about what to say when it comes to the extraordinary incompetence of Pat McHenry. So I thought I'd invite BlueNC readers to help me write a letter to the people he's supposedly representing.

My first instinct was a letter filled with condolences. But then I remembered that these folks actually voted for the clown, so I figured a harder edge might be better. And then I remembered many of his supporters are extremist Republicans, and I considered a pictograph. Then I thought that most of them are probably really nice people, though somewhat misguided, so I decided I needed help.

Please join in with your thoughts, prayers, wishes, worries and whatever in this open letter to the people of the 10th District. When the thread is full, I'll send this to every newspaper in the district, as well as to Pat himself.

Here's where I started ...

Dear 10th District voters.

Though I don't live in your district, I feel your pain. It must be really hard knowing that the person supposedly representing your interests in Washington is a two-bit national laughingstock. But the damage of Pat McHenry goes far beyond your own communities. People all across the country are looking at our state and shaking their heads in disbelief.

You probably don't know why, though, because your district newspapers tend to keep the truth to themselves, rarely publishing stories about how Pat lies to his constituents, hangs out with shady characters, or puts our troops in danger to bolster his own ego.

Please, please, please do whatever is necessary to rid our state of this scourge. One easy step would be to elect an honorable man, a hero, named Daniel Johnson this November. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Dear Voters of the 10th District...

I know what it's like to have a congressman who doesn't listen to your interests, and who seems more interested in being a cheerleader for the Administration rather than protecting our nation's security. But as bad as the 8th District congressman is, Rep. McHenry's recent "exploits" show an utter disregard for the safety of our troops and an immaturity not in keeping with the high office he holds.

Whether it's calling soldiers who risk their lives to personally protect him "two-bit" or deciding that it's a good idea to broadcast a video showing how the enemy in Iraq has successfully caused damage to Coalition Forces, to the point of telling the enemy where locations in the Green Zone are, this is inexcusable for a member of the United States House of Representatives.

Sometimes you never know what you're getting when you vote for someone in the ballot booth, even if they are incumbent. But I'm afraid Rep. McHenry has displayed the kind of judgment he has, and I don't think it's the kind of judgment the people of your district deserve.

Please take time this election year to research ALL the candidates for Congress for the 10th District. I think you'll find both the GOP and Democratic challengers have showed better, reasoned, and more mature judgment than your incumbent.

Good luck taking back your district!

Those in the 10th know

Those in the 10th know exactly my position on this subject. We absolutely must ensure that Patrick McHenry does not win the Primary- knowing the things he pulled last year, we will not win.

I hate to be so pessimistic, but it's true. Despite anything we can do, once McHenry is the only Republican in the race, he will immediately pull support from his buddies, both monetarily and news-wise. When he has this kind of support, I don't care if we have a picture of him at a Gay Pride parade, he will be elected yet again.

One thing I'm very amused of is how Ivester, Johnson, and Sigmon are basically willing to ignore each other (temporarily, obviously) and focus on McHenry. Just goes to show you that in times when there is a corrupt political, Republican or Democrat, everyone has to step in and kick his ass.

I don't care if you are Democrat like most of us or Republican. Go to your district meetings. Go to your county meetings. Get involved. It's sometimes easy to sit back and believe that your Congressman has nothing to do with you, but that is not true: McHenry's decisions affect all of us in ways that range from our jobs to our quality of life. Do not let this corrupt midget back into office.

Many NC Politicians have a sence of entitlement about them

Most of those who do are Republican. McHenry is no exception.

Representatives should have a sence of obligation and service. There was a time when most did.

So many of the Republican Representatives from NC are simply an embarrassment to us all, but they also effect every American when they cast a vote. That is the unfortunate part.

McHenry reminds me a a snot nosed brat, who, in all probability has barely worked a day in his life. In all likelyhood he has never struggled, and never will. How then can he understand what is necessary to represent the citizens of America who struggle every day?

2014 U.S. Congress Candidate NC-03

Most of those who do are

Most of those who do are Republican.

Yet, the arrogant ones in NC who are ending up in jail are, for the most part, all from which party?

Also, members of Congress have the *sence* to run spellcheck. It's the little things that will get you places, Mr. Adame.

I'm a lurker no longer. Be prepared.

And therein lies one primary difference

between how Democrats and Republicans respond to corruption in our respective parties. Republicans count it as "genius" to break the law and not get caught. (see Rove, Karl) Democrats? ... we don't take that crap. We loathe that arrogance, even from those who see themselves as untouchable -- no ESPECIALLY from those who see themselves as untouchable -- and we reward it with jail time.

The only reason Rs are not being caught is because they have no one on their side of the aisle worried about cleaning up their messes or taking out their trash.

You're new here. Brand new. Registered just to post this comment, in fact. That's great!! We love newcomers. However, I have a friendly piece of advice for you, newbie. One who lacks the ability to show even a modicum of respect when he walks into a room full of strangers, can expect none in return. Spell check that.

"It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit." - Harry Truman

"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

Ending up in jail means someone prosecuted the case

Which party does Federal Prosecutor Mr. Holding belong to?

Which party member declined to prosecute and judge Coy Privette?

The David Almond affair is much more recent history than all but the Thomas Wright affair.

If the NC GOP is going this route, they should be prepared too.

Goodness gracious ~

I'm all a'feard now that we've been warned to "be prepared!" You know, when you end with a statement like this, you come across more like an "imp" than any devil's advocate.

Yes, imp, it is exciting how little things like spell-check can improve our lives. But I would suggest that what most of us here have noticed is that it is the bigger things, such as integrity, thoughtfulness, concern for issues and committment to public service that have earned Mr. Adame the respect of many proud citizens, not to mention participants on this blog.

-Edmund Burke

Oh, and did I mention grace?

Graciousness is another one of those "big" things that Mr. Adame offers. You might think it small, but you'll find that it does "get you places."

McHenry: An embarrassment

There are many emotions that one would hope a member of Congress would engender in his constituents, but embarrassment is surely not one of them. Yet that is precisely what I feel nearly every time I see Congressman McHenry on television.

In his youthful zeal, he seems to be willing to do anything to gain favor within the Republican Party and advance his career. In the process, he will tout the most extreme partisan lines, no matter how inane or inimical to the needs of his constituents.

When I vote, I want to vote for a decent person to represent me (yes, I live in NC-10), my views, and the needs of the district. What we have in Rep. McHenry is a mongrel cross between a lap dog and a pit bull who appears bred for personal gain and political advancement.

In a word, an embarrassment.

Sent to newspapers

Not sure it'll do much good, but at least the papers can't say they haven't heard anything about the Congressclown.

Thanks to all for chiming in.

Please Add The Fifth District

The Fifth District is also in need of such condolences. I dont know who is a greater embarassment- McHenry or Virginia Foxx. My money's on our sly Foxx.

Foxx is embarrassing to be sure

and over here in the 6th, we're represented by the undead corpse of Howard Coble. But McHenry may actually have had a hand in the death of 3 soldiers in Baghdad. Even Virginian and Howard, in their wildest dreams of ineffectiveness and sloth, could not come close to that.
