Sign up for the steering committee? Volunteer to be the steering wheel?

Jerimee has offered to get business cards printed. If you want some, send me whatever name (real or otherwise) you want on your cards. (The only other copy will be bluenc.com and maybe "the people's think tank.)

The cards won't cost you nuttin.'

Nagging question: Should we shoot to have a Famous Person here? I'd like to meet Barack Obama. Think we could get him to come for dessert?

I'll take care of inviting candidates

Which ones should we invite? All of them? Right before the primary I doubt they'd be able to come, but some will send surrogates. I can do a combo of email and snail mail depending on the availability of mailing addresses. Gimme some guidelines and I'll get on it.

Let's invite the world.

I say the more the merrier. Anyone who wants to have anything to do with the progressive blogosphere in North Carolina should come.

Blackwater Hosting?

I like the sound of that. We can even get Blackwater

to do security.*persondem

Don't worry! Blackwater has already sign up to do the show and provide security. I am reviewing their prepose security list. According to the list,,,6 M-1 battletanks will be station in circle around the event. And 6 special assault units will be station around the Grill with paint guns.

Do you have a caterer that you were thinking of using?*M

Yes! Blackwater has a front company that will be cartering the event...It is called "Hot Buns To Go"

Where is the help needed? Are there categories I can choose from? * M

Yes!
1. The Hot and Cold Democrat Goat Dip
2. Camels on a neo-con stick
3. Fried Republicans who want to stop the war
4. And the infamous lemon tea Iranian drink, Fox Cool Aid

Inviting candidates

If you post it, they will come.

I'll be happy to help.

on that security comment

I like that we are back to having a sense of humor. that is very important.

and it is also fun.
that was one funny comment. Bravo

Once you get Momo involved, organization will follow.

I volunteer to be a worker bee. I am too often involved in steering and planning and I'm burnt out on that. Just point me in the direction, and I'm there.

How awesome would that be?

Failing current presidential candidates, it seems to me that one recently retired candidate lives almost in your backyard, James. What about John Edwards?

Good idea Linda

how about elizabeth edwards?

Well, I just have to put that in as she has been the blogging family member.

As for security, I can bring my black belted son, the "unofficial bodyguard of the Jim Neal for Senate campaign."

This is gonna be fun. Should we chip in for a big tent in case it rains? We are the big tent people, after all!

Do I have to be the one to point this out.....

you eat barbecue, you have a cook-out.

BBQ is a noun not a verb

I agree 100%. I am constantly having to remind my yankee in-laws about this.

Briscoe Darling to Sheriff Andy

Uh oh

We in Louisiana have been known to use it as a verb.
Now, ordinarily, I'd be a little concerned about this intra-regional difference, but this is barbeque we're talking about. NO ONE knows how to do it better than Louisiana, so I reckon we can use it as a verb.

I bet you also use cow

I am guessing you also use beef to make BBQ just like those heathens in Texas.

EVERYONE knows that Louisanians are nothing more than transplanted French and WE all know how neferious the French are. Freedom Fries rule!

Why you . . . I oughta . . .

That's MS. Nefarious to you, buddy!

We Louisianians are very self-assured when it comes to food and music. Some things we do pretty well.

calling up my heritage

I have Cajun AND Texas ancestors and have been known to feast on even bbq lamb. Well, Texans will eat about anything they can hunt, which is probably why I am vegetarian.(Yes, I HAVE eaten squirrel!)

We put the cook-out/bash/etc. on Jim Neal's calendar. He isn't here so I can't give an official rsvp, but we know about it.

Vegetarians

I'm a vegetarian, too, and have been for (OMG) 27 years now. That's no reason to pass up a perfectly good opportunity to brag about your homestate's bbq.

(so tell me you're a Michell Shocked fan -- pre the last album anyway)

She borrowed a bit from Shakespeare there

I do love that gal's work. "Short Sharp and Shocked" and "The Texas Campfire Tapes" are my favorites. What a voice~

I saw Michelle Shocked solo....

at this cool little bar in Gainesville, FL way back when. Back when she was doing the anti-corporate thing with her Kind Hearted Woman album. I listened to pretty much everything she did up until about 1993.

tofu BBQ

Guess you are going to want tofu BBQ?

A friend of mine for his PHD dissertation did a documentary on BBQ and tofu BBQ was a subject that he touched on.

"jump in where you can and hang on"
Briscoe Darling to Sheriff Andy

Well, now that you mention it

It *would* be nice. But I became a vegetarian back in the day (and in Arkansas) when no one was interested in putting up with that nonsense, so I never got into the habit of asking for special menus . . . but far be it for me to decline a fine offer like THIS~

I'm listening to Herbie Hancock's "River: The Joni Letters" just now, so anything anyone does is fine with me.

a korean place on 55 at 54

has a sign advertising bbq and tofu. I will have to try it and report back to the vegetarian caucus of the Blogger party!

I hear that's good.

A Korean friend of mine recommended it, but I haven't eaten there yet.

And damn straight there ought to be food vegetarians -- and Kosher-keeping folks -- can eat! It's 2008, and not-eating-meat isn't that weird anymore. Never mind that we're supposed to be the Big Tent party.

Before you went...

dropped the v-bomb, I was going to ask if you wanted to get together for this thing and boil some crayfish....mmmmm crayfish....anyone else interested? Can you even get them in the state? Living in the mountains, I know it is a no go....that is why I am driving like 10 hours at the beginning of the month to go to Jackson, MS...crayfish and beer....

They prefer to be called crawdads,

except for those uppity blue-blood French-speaking critters who claim to be descended from the prawn.

yes but I feel like a poser when I call them crawdads...

don't feel like I have put in my dues enough yet to be that familiar with them.

As long as you don't call them mud bugs

in mixed company, you're safe. It's a derogitory term, and only they have the right to use it jokingly amongst each other.

I'm taking a chance just typing it, but since most bottom-feeders are Republicans, the odds of a crawdad stumbling across BlueNC whilst surfing the web are fairly small.

I can't believe such a pointless observation could be so funny. I must be losing my mind...

Sounds like we have volunteers left and...left

that will provide food. James, you haven't answered my questions up-thread: what are the catagories to choose from to volunteer for? Is there a menu already? Do you use a caterer or will we each bring something? Hamburgers/hotdogs/bbq/tofu? Lowe's foods is currently having a sale on baby-back ribs and the hubs cooks them better than any restaurant I know. How do you guys want to do this?

I'd vote Yes Leslie!
