Home Alone with Shakespeare

Wife and kids went to visit my father-in-law in Kentucky.

Shakespeare's my golden retriever. He's in my spot on the bed. Jerk.

:)

Equally disturbing

is MSNBC.COM's idea of a discussion topic on that story.

Discuss: Should atheists be allowed to command troops?

Frickin' duh.

They're catching Hell

for it in the comments a little bit, though. I find that heartening.

Bob Dole says ...

Bob Dole was on Larry King tonight, and I thought you all would at least find this interesting. He's talking about Obama:

"My wife gives him high marks."

Probably the smartest thing I've heard of her doing in a long time.

That's something.

I wonder if he'll regret saying that later.

You do what?

You wear socks on your ding-dong, James? This fashion trend was a short-lived 1980's thing led by the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers.

When k.d. knocked the socks off, what was her reaction?

8-)

dammit Gordon.

that caused a coffee spew.

I don't mind picturing the Chili Peppers in just their socks, but James is my friend and I don't want to objectify him like that. :)

Wright

No one here has been covering or talking about The Sad Tale of Thomas Wright, but I'm sure many of you have been following it.

This comment from a reader Under the Dome seemed to fit the bill:

I've known Thomas Wright for years. I truly believe that he began his political career with good, but naive intentions. However the news of his scamming the community that believed in him is far more sinister than criminal, it is a backbreaking loss for those who bought into a dream the deceased Senator Luther Jordan once shared with everyone about a day of atonement for the 1898 rebellion. Wright took the ball and ran with it.... straight to the pawn shop.

The above quote seems more fitting of a madman than the idealistic man he once was, or pretended to be.

What I want to know is:

“There was massive fraud,” said Rep. Rick Glazier, a Fayetteville Democrat who chairs the panel, “perpetrated by the deliberate decision, made year in and year out, through 22 reporting periods, to not disclose.”

how could this go on for so long without a whole bunch of flags being raised? I understand corrective action is taking place now, but doesn't the "year in and year out" observation strike anybody else as a (perhaps intentional) dig at the General Assembly itself?

Yes it does

Rep. Glazier is one of our more liberal Reps and I can imagine that he's taking a dig at the old guard that let this slide on by.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own.

Went to my first meeting this evening

Onslow County Democrats met this evening, and a handful of candidates for local office introduced themselves.

I met and spoke briefly with Marshall Adame. Unfortunately I had to run immediately following, but it was a pleasure to meet him and spend a few moments saying hello.

He spoke eloquently but briefly at the beginning of the meeting, and I liked what he had to say.

Also spent a few moments meeting a few of the other folks there, some candidates, some not.

Several people remarked about the higher than usual turn out (to which I obviously cannot attest personally), so that's a very good sign.

It was an hour well spent.

P.S.

Mr. Adame didn't recognize me at first because I apparently have much more gray in my beard than it appears in my picture.

Thanks, Marshall. You could have skipped mentioning that.

:)

Good...

...to hear that Marshall made a good first impression. We need to get better organized in Onslow. Any help you can muster would be greatly appreciated by Marshall and our team. Let me know what I can do to fill our you impression of him. He's very good, too, at personally answering e-mail inquiries. And his website has tons of information about his views and positions on myriad issues. I'll be glad to provide e-mail addresses, etc., for myself and others.

Thank you Bradford

I'll have to get back to you, as I have to leave town immediately for a few days. There's been a death in the family in KY, and I'll touch base with you when I get back.
