New Veteran Service Office to Open with help from Canadate Heath Shuler & N.C.Senator John Snow!

New Vet's Office In Robbinsville With help of Shuler & Snow!

VFW - American Legion Veteran's Service Office & Recruiting Office Opening.

On Wednesday , March 29th, 2006, Allen Garver, American Legion Commander and Danny Siler, Joint Legion-VFW Veterans Sercice Officer met with US Army Recruiters Sergeant First Class Fritz Hodges & Staff Sergent Thomas Arthaud to finalize office plans for the first fully dedicated VFW - Legion Post sponsored Veterans Service Officers Office &
Recruiting Center for Robbinsville. This will be the first time an actual office has been sponsored in Graham County by either post. The Office will be located in the VFW-American Legion Post Building located on lower Main Street.

The Official Opening and Ribbon Cutting of the Veterans Service Office will be April 14th,2006 at 10am. Plans are for Heath Shuler, Candidate for Congress in the 11th District & State Senator John Snow of the 50th District to be on hand to cut the ribbon and offically dedicate
the Office along with the Mayor of Robbinsville & County Commissioners along with other dignataries. Senator Snow has donated a computer & printer.

On March 28th Danny Siler received a letter of congratulations along with best wishes from Arizona Senator, Navy Veteran & Ex-POW John McCain for working to make this service available for Veterans.

Until then It will be open on a temporary basis while the
project & futher improvements are being finalized. Service Officer Siler's first day was Friday March 31st and he will be available in the office for claims processing and Veteran - VA Matters on each Tuesday and each Friday from 1-5pm. A third day will be scheduled if needed and if a Veteran cannot come during those hours they can
call or e-mail to set up a appointment Eventually as systems become available for use, All Veterans claim forms can be summitted on-line over the Internet and hardcopy forms are available also.

The US Army Recruiters will be finalizeing their schedule as will other service repersentaves as the Post's are provideing them space also. Current recruiting material is available at the office. When not in the office Staff Sergeant Arthaud can be contacted at 828-631-4798 or
at , or contact the Service Office & they will contact him. A area for administering applicant testing of future recruits has also been made available so everything can be done in the office.

Service Officer Danny Siler is sponsored Jointly by Eller-Huffman-Rogers American Legion Post 192 & Carringer-Webster VFW Post 8635 and received his training thru a 8 week on-line & open Book course from The
National Veterans Legal Services Program in Washington,D.C. which specialized in Veterans Law,Advocatacy & Benefits, and hasalready signed up for the up comming Adavanced Course which will allow him to be certified & accredited with the Dept. Of Veterans Affiars. During this time he also completed the Military Funeral Honors On-Line Course offered thru the Army National Guard.

The Services provided by the Veterans Service Officer are
completely free of charge to all Veterans of Graham & other counties. Unlike the Service Officers at the VA Hospital's & Veterans Group Department Level this program is not funded and Post Service Officers receive no pay or mileage.

All Graham County Veterans and public are invited to attend the Official Opening on April 14th.

Not that I don't appreciate the actual good work.

Gosh knows Robbinsville folks need all the help they can get. It's so beautiful there (my choice of next place to move if it wasn't so sad). I;ve been told most of the young people live in poverty or leave or have to commute hours for work.

Drama Queen is right but the situation is trying to improve a little. Hopefully if we can get Taylor out of office things will start to change. Of course as we all know, change comes slow. We are retaining a higher number of our youth but work still needs to be done. That is why I do what I do i guess!
