I'm going to pin this to the top

of the page for at least a few days for max exposure, so those of you who check the site via Smartphone need to remember to scroll down for new blog entries.

Hoping for some feedback from readers

This list is actually more "refined" than previous ones, because the folks who prepared it listed the "declared" candidates in addition to those who have formally filed. Previously I drew my data from the Board of Elections website, which (of course) didn't have those extra names.

Unfortunately, that means the list above may actually increase, if some of those declared challengers change their minds. Film at eleven.

Hopefully by Thursday's shindig, that number will be (much) lower.

Looking forward to seeing you on Thursday

For anyone who wants to meet Steve (and you should), he'll be at a fundraiser at our house on Thursday, Feb 22 from 5:30 to 7:00. You're welcome to come, too. Especially since all contributions will be matched by a mysterious donor. We'd love to see you there.

451 Lakeshore Lane
Chapel Hill, NC

Tickets are $100.

Dammit

Having this many unchallenged districts is criminal. What does the NCDP actually do? They've had more than a year to find good progressive candidates. I know these districts are gerrymandered as hell, but that's no excuse. Pathetic.

They're working on it

Harder than I've ever seen them do, actually. At this point two years ago, I believe there were about 48 seats (out of 120) unchallenged, if I remember correctly. It ended up being about 30, so I'm hoping we can get a lot closer this year. Check back Thursday, I'll do an update.

One down (at least) as of this afternoon

I just received this via e-mail from my county party:

To all Democrats (and like-minded individuals),

Democratic candidates are coming out and stepping up as Candidates. FYI, we will have a Candidate filing TODAY for North Carolina House District 64!

Cathy von Hassel-Davies will be filing at the Alamance Board of Elections (in Graham) today, Wednesday at 3:00pm and I apologize for the short notice. Let's get out and support all of our candidates!!!

I said "at least" because I was planning on updating the above list tomorrow. But I'm adding Cathy right now...

And another...

Updated...

As of close of business yesterday. Still a lot of work to be done, but that's 92 House seats covered.

Just updated again,

this time from the Board of Elections website. That brings my count down to 25 seats left to challenge.

But after talking with Graig Meyer last night, and watching a Facebook video he just posted like 15 minutes ago, the real number (and District targets) may be down to just these eight seats:

ACTION ALERT: Grassroots Help Needed!
5: Days remaining in the 2018 Election Filing Period
8: NC House Republicans without a challenger

We need your help finding candidates in these districts by Wednesday at noon!!
10 - Wayne, Johnston, Greene
51 - Harnett / Lee
78 - Randolph
81 - Davidson
86 - Burke
90 - Surry
97 - Lincoln
117 - Henderson

If are willing to run, message me or email graig@graigmeyer.com

Several people have committed to run but haven't filed yet, I talked to one of them last night. Blue Wave...

Great progress

I would love to see similar movement on the state senate side.

There are 17 NC Senate seats with no Democratic candidate yet — 16R, 1D.

1 — Bill Cook (R), Chocowinty
7 — Louis Pate (R), Mt. Olive
10 — Brent Jackson, (R), Autreyville

12 — Ronald Rabin (R), Spring Lake
13 — Danny Britt (R), Lumberton
14 — Dan Blue (D), Raleigh, Minority Leader
19 — Wesley Meredith (R), Fayetteville

Yeah, usually I post both,

but that is just downright exhausting. Two years ago it got to the point I was spending about five hours a day running names down and bouncing back and forth between the two, and it took a toll.

I suspect the redraw of some districts is creating CHAOS

Berger has an opponent -
NC STATE SENATE DISTRICT 30 Jen Mangrum
NC STATE SENATE DISTRICT 30 Philip E. (Phil) Berger

Senate 26 is the equally repulsive Tillman
NC STATE SENATE DISTRICT 26 Jerry W. Tillman
and he does not (yet) have an opponent.

Steve - I see what you mean about the time-suck that this is!

Yes, not to mention

going cross-eyed trying to read the dang excel spreadsheets. I'm already sporting 1.75 old man reading glasses, which are really only effective if your face is 1 foot, eleven-and-a-half inches from the lap-top screen. I'ma need a damn neck brace pretty soon. :)

I am ecstatic

I am ecstatic at the response!
And I recently learned that my R NC house (NC-2) rep used campaign funds to purchase a gun that he carries on his person. If he is afraid of his constituents, maybe he should consider resigning. Ah, but then he would have to relinquish the gun cause it ain't his - it belongs to the campaign. Almost a Zen koan...

Cool!

Thanks for all your hard work on this, Graig. I admit I had my doubts we could get this many. Glad I was wrong.

Updated again as of today

Just one day left of filing, and for the record, you folks waiting until the last day need to chip in and pay for my therapy. >--(o

8 more House Dems are official plus 5 on the Senate side

NC HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DISTRICT 070 Margaret (Meg) Wolfe-Roberts
NC HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DISTRICT 081 LEWIE PHILLIPS
NC HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DISTRICT 085 Howard Larsen
NC HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DISTRICT 089 Greg Cranford
NC HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DISTRICT 090 John Worth Wiles
NC HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DISTRICT 095 Carla Fassbender
NC HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DISTRICT 111 David C. Brinkley
NC HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DISTRICT 120 Aaron Martin

NC STATE SENATE DISTRICT 01 Richard S. (Steve) James
NC STATE SENATE DISTRICT 10 Vernon R. Moore
NC STATE SENATE DISTRICT 12 Howard Baldwin
NC STATE SENATE DISTRICT 14 Dan Blue
NC STATE SENATE DISTRICT 29 CHERATON LOVE

44 out of 50 Senate districts - only 7, 13, 26, 33, 35, 46 are left.
107 of 120 House district - only 9, 10, 13, 28, 45, 46, 51, 67, 86, 91, 97, 110, 117 are left.

Thanks!

Jonathan must have looked too early to catch those. Great news. Fixing the post now...

All seats covered!

I will update the list above tomorrow so you'll have all the names of the candidates handy.

Updated with all (new) candidates

The above list (of course) is a sub-category of previously unchallenged seats, so it's not everybody who's running. My brain would turn to jelly (grape) if I tried to list all of them here. But you can click the 2018 State Filing List and see all of them.

New candidates

Darren Jackson is posting tweets featuring new candidates. Maybe once we get our "Elections Central" page up and running, we can being doing the same by embedding here?

That's a great idea

I'm both excited and terrified by the new format coming. It's gonna be awesome, and I'm sure I will adapt, but it's a lot like going off the high dive. That climb up there is a little heart-stopping. ;)
