The latest outrageous comment from Tim Kent

"The good guys won last night," said Tim Kent, N.C. Realtors Association. "The good guys were 16-0 last night and the good guys will continue to be involved in this issue and do battle as necessary."

How can the forces of evil claim they are the good guys?

Because they're evil!

Next question!

Because they're evil and stupid at the same time!

"The good guys were 16-0 last night and the good guys will continue to be involved in this issue and do battle as necessary."* Tim the house republican repair man

Wait until neo-con Tim finds out that nobody wants to buy a house, since Gold hit a all-time high today and nobody has gas money to get to work....You are screw Tim, seek new employment in another scam republican field

The media lets them

because they're all too young, impressionable, underpaid and/or lazy, busy, underpaid to give a damn about anything other than getting something on tape/paper and filing it. The easy interviews get done and that's it. Quotes are all the authority they need to file. The quotes never get truth tested. Reporters exercise no skepticism, unless they're talking to a non-lover of all things pro-business and free-market. And guys like Kent and Woodhouse make it easy for people to find them. They go to the reporters. Then they refer reporters to their buddies for further "investigation".

Facts and analysis on the teevee or in the daily paper is so 20th century. We all live in fantasy land now.

"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

Very well said

Kent used to be a news anchor -- I think it was WRAL, but am not sure. He understands the sound bite, sure enough. But I don't think he's sharp enough to understand that while his "team" might think the gloating is reinforcing, it might be the other team who takes inspiration. Or worse, for his interests, it might actually inspire people who haven't been paying attention to take notice. Speaking in terms of good and evil might play for politcians vying for office, since in that case it is a person who gets or doesn't get the vote, but on a matter of issues, I think it's kind of stupid to suggest that anyone who disagrees with your point of view is a "bad guy."

Ticks

Ticks are never good guys. They spread disease and suck blood. Tim Kent is confused.

I just hope the GA is watching

I wonder if the General Assembly will do anything in response to the Land Transfer Tax demise? What could/should they do?

vague connection

My boss's wife is a lobbyist for the County Commissioners Association (or some such). She is apparently royally pissed that this didn't pass anywhere. I only get updates when my boss feels like talking about it, but he knows I'm interested in the subject, so I'll do what I can to keep everyone posted.

The poor County

The poor County Commissioners' Association did a lot of lobbying to get their counties these options, and then only five got passed and all 16 land transfer taxes went down. I hope this doesn't scare away other counties. At the very least, they need to keep putting them on the ballot just so the realtors will have to keep spending money. At least 5 counties did pass the sales tax, and three others came very close.

Hey, I just saw that my post got on the front page! What an honor! THanks, Anglico!

Exactly

just so the realtors will have to keep spending money

Despite rumors they don't have "unlimited" funds. They have a lot of new dues paying members who haven't figured out yet that the market can't support them indefinitely without growth. The housing market depends primarily on the job market. The job market depends on...well, many of the things realtors don't want to pay for.

I know of 6 counties

that will never see a transfer tax referendum come up for a vote! We LOVE the transfer tax. Our county commissioners will not do anything to get rid of this cash cow. Next time your county proposes this transfer tax, ask the folks of NE NC how it has stunted the growth in our counties. Our transfer tax money is not offset by Raleigh. Raleigh gives us our fair alloted share of state money regardless of how much money we collect in transfer taxes.

I am not smart enough to find it, but can anyone find out how fast camden, perquimans, pasqoutank (sp), currituck (sp), gates dang, dont know the last one. Anyways, these counties I think have the transfer tax. Would love to know how they have been growing compared to the other counties in this state. Chowan???

Bet the ticks dont want that information out. I think when I moved to my county, we had right around 10,000 people in 2004, and now we have over 12,000.

Perquimans has the transfer tax, my house documentation shows a 1% transfer tax. My county manager loves this tax.

No one who is not buying or selling in this county cares about this tax as it does not effect them. It no longer effects me. I paid my tax....whoooop teeeee dooooooo. And it broke me. Paid $110,000 for my acre of happiness, and part of this money was to pay $1000 to the county in the transfer tax (1%). From what I understand, many of the counties where only authorized to go only .04%. That would have been $400 for my acre of happiness.

TICKS, your killing me....I don't know WHY I bought my house.....I should have stayed in Virginia with the sound of freedom and smoke bombs dropping on me instead of moving to Perquimans county with this monetarily oppressive transfer tax!

TICKS, bite me!

hee hee! I love it

when you get your snark on, parm. Most excellent points.

Your best comment ever, Parmea

I love this part:

No one who is not buying or selling in this county cares about this tax as it does not effect them.

We just have to keep stressing that property taxes hit you every single year, but the transfer tax only impacts a certain percentage of homeowners....the buyers/sellers.
