You know what I love?
I have this cranked and my Republican husband has to listen to it. :D

Your husband's a Republican???
wow, wouldn't have guested that. Guess love conquers all. :)
From the floor...
Not much to see down here. There are candidates, elected officials, and party officers down here (including some uncommitted supers), but the more interesting scene is up in the stands
Lots of Clinton and Obama signs, but not too many for the gubernatorial candidates. I see a handful of Perdue signs but no Moore signs.
The camera is scanning the crowd at times
It's so exciting. I swear I'm looking for Linda throwing spit balls at Brunette!
Thanks for checking in Dan.

Yay Joe Hackney!
Many I'm really glad I'm not there ... but very happy to have it virtually delivered. (I'd be ready to leave already, I'm afraid.)
Yeah, this isn't as exciting, certainly
but I'm very glad we have this feed.

Did you see the sign?
A woman was holding up a sign that read, "Pray for me. I'm married to a Republican."
Oh dear goddess above, below or over yonder....I shore do know how she feels. :D

Hillary's doing great.
Go Jerry!
They are all doing great
Bev's voice was a little shaky and the feed kept going in and out, but what I heard of her speech was very good. I thought Jim Neal did a good job.
I'm just glad we're not completely missing the speeches. This live feed is wonderful

Hillary did such a good job
You know, for all the initial complaining about the structuring of this event, I bet everyone there is happy they went.

wow, Mike
is getting a very, very cold reception. ya almost feel bad for the guy...
Is it my imagination or is the crowd
gone lukewarm on Easley?

Extremely
His voice is shot. He's trying to excite the audience, but..
god this is hard for me to listen to
I was there.
He was booed. Kind of sad. But - - - not unexpected.

Well I guess it's not my imagination.
PP thinks so too.
Progressive Democrats of North Carolina
Oh...I think the crowd is a bit less enthusiastic
but it is hard to tell b/c they don't have the mics on the crowd. He's doing a good job, though.
I'm assuming that Kay and Richard will speak after Barack Obama. I'm sure they are having to be flexible for the Pres candidates.

you're right Betsy,
it's actually a pretty damn good speech. It's just that his political capital has run out. That's what we are hearing--or not hearing--in that room.
that was so poignant
I really wish i was there watching Easley speak. The way he said thank you so many times and walked off the stage. It was a powerful moment. It was the end of something, and I'm not quite sure what. But it moved me in a strange way. Kind of a sad but relieving way.
Kay doesn't do sarcasm really well.
somebody should have told her.
Progressive Democrats of North Carolina
She's not a good speaker.
She's totally reading off her notes, even starting over when she makes a mistake. But, mostly, she's just boring.

Hagan
needed to do something else besides her same stump speech. She had a chance to really inspire people. But she didn't.
It's called gravitas...
hope that wasn't too harsh,
but there is something missing. Sounds like your average state senator... That said, she can develop her communication skills between now and the fall. I hope she can.
Not too harsh
She isn't the best pubic speaker, but I thought she did a good job.

Oh, Betsy, she did an awful job, really.
It was sad. She couldn't hold anyone's attention in the area, even people who had her signs. :(

"Chairman of the Budget"
Which is exactly why she shouldn't be elected. It's funny because I'm watching a Walter Dalton.....Holy Hell, he just went negative on Hampton. "Another lobbyist" "Family connections"

what about Dalton?
i must have missed something.
I'm at home, Walter Dalton Ad went negative on Hampton.

Be Careful.
Using BlueNC to point out her awful public speaking abilities, and weak policy stances apparantly encourages people to support her. Go figure.

It was a blast!
I talked to Brunette on the phone, but never got to see her. Text messaged with TrueMeckDem throughout, talked to Larry Kissell, and found out that the real way to find people is to hang out in front of the men's room! That's how I got to talk to Brad Miller and Will!

working the blue Ridge Rd. entrance?
Were you working the entrance of the parking? I thought that was you and came out to say hello but you were very busy so I stood there a sec and went back in.
"jump in where you can and hang on"
Briscoe Darling to Sheriff Andy
Yep. I was at Gate 11.
Oh rats!! It did get very busy in spurts there. Were you at the reception?

I saw them both while I was waiting outside the men's room
for my better half. :) You weren't on your way in there with them. I'm sorry I missed you though, because I'd really like to meet you face to face.

The Men's Room hmmm
I never thought of making conections there. I was waiting at the exit door for Brad to make that little side trip.

Eh.
I feel like the NC Democratic Party should use part of the profits from the JJ Dinner and take all the Democratic nominees to a communication/speechwriting camp...because I don't think anyone did really well.
Hagan was just awkward. She lacks pacing--she rushes through her notes as if she's talking to a mirror, not an actual live audience. She doesn't anticipate where the applause will come in--people would clap and she looked almost surprised. I'm still a fan of the Dorothy red slippers/Liddy Dole metaphor, though.
Neal was...eh. He's a better public speaker than Hagan, but I still find myself kind of underwhelmed by him. Plus, I didn't really get Jim Neal from his speech tonight, I got John Edwards-lite.

I was just happy to be able to see them online
Unfortunately, the feed went out a bit too much during Jim's speech for me to speak to his cadence or delivery. The only thing I remember thinking was that at one point after the sound had been off for several seconds and I thought he'd moved on, the sound came back on and he was still going through the whole list of people he was running for.
Hagan does need to work on her timing. I thought her tone of voice was good, but I agree with ProudProgressive that maybe she should have switched up her speech. It didn't seem to quite suit the event. I also like the ruby slippers metaphor
Bev sounded tired and her voice was weak. I thought her speech was fine - what I could hear of it.
Richard Moore seemed almost embarrassed, but I'm sure I'm reading that into what I saw.
I really was happy to get to see/hear what I did.

me too
in between doing other computer work things, hearing the speeches was really cool
I thought Bev's speech was tired.
The sound in the arena was awful, and she had to almost shout to be almost heard.
And let me tell all of my sistahs something. If you ever have to speak in public, especially in front of a huge audience, take this clue. I don't care if this is Carolina. Light Blue is not flattering in a pantsuit. Yes, I know, we're not supposed to judge female candidates on what they wear. I'm not judging their ability. But both Bev and Hillary wore a version of "Carolina Blue", and it just looked bad. Bev is so - petite - that I heard smurf jokes in the crowd around me. She looked like she was standing on tiptoe to reach the podium, which was not flattering, either. It was too bad, really. It's probably lovely on her when it's close up.
Be the change you wish to see in the world. --Gandhi
Pointing at Naked Emperors
It was lovely,
On her close up. I sat two tables behind her with Frank Eaton. The problem was that the blue was so bright, I started calling her "Ice Queen."
I thought Hillary's suit was purple too. Maybe she's trying to get the ECU vote?
Richard Moore got good props from the crowd around me.
I was sitting in with the Obama supporters in the nosebleed seats. They liked him, liked his message. He didn't appear embarrassed to me.
Be the change you wish to see in the world. --Gandhi
Pointing at Naked Emperors
Well...I've never seen him in person
so not familiar with his typical body language.... Maybe embarrassed isn't the word. Maybe sheepish...but that could be his normal demeanor.
Also, Bev's suit looked fine on the screen and it did look like she needed a riser. Her voice sounded very tired. I think the whole video/in person thing makes a difference. Sadly, the feed went out a lot during Jim's and Bev's speeches. I think they must have fixed some of the problems before Hillary spoke b/c after Jim and Bev spoke the audio would only go out for a second or two at a time instead of 10-20 seconds.
Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.
