Friday News: Dumber than a door nail

CAWTHORN FILES BILL BLOCKING MANDATE THAT DOESN'T EXIST: “Vaccine requirements for interstate travel are in direct opposition to the United States Constitution,” Cawthorn said in the release. “The Biden Administration continues to flaunt their blatant disregard for the law in pursuit of their left-wing radical agenda.” No vaccine mandates for travel are currently in effect. President Joe Biden has proposed mandating vaccines in other settings but not for air travel, the Washington Post reported, although Biden’s chief medical adviser, Dr. Anthony Fauci, has said he would support such a mandate. The bill, called the ‘‘Let Me Travel America Act,’’ would ban the government from mandating vaccines for travel within the United States. Me me me. What a spoiled narcissistic brat.

SPEAKING OF COVIDIOTS: The Republican Party's pick to fill the term of a late Gaston County lawmaker resigned the chairmanship last year of a local hospital board after a series of early pandemic social media posts. Donnie Loftis is a former Gaston County commissioner, an Army veteran and recipient of the Bronze Star, a medal given for heroism or merit. He was on the CaroMont Health board of directors for eight years but resigned in May 2020 after The Charlotte Observer asked about some of his COVID-19 Facebook posts, the newspaper reported at the time. Loftis made that Facebook page private after The Observer reached out, leaving the messages inaccessible to the general public. The newspaper said he called stay-at-home orders tyranny and posted messages about coronavirus conspiracies. At the time, CaroMont was urging people to stay home, and one of the system's nurses was in critical condition with COVID-19, the newspaper reported. The system told the newspaper that board members' opinions were "not statements made on the behalf of CaroMont Health nor an indication of the health system’s position on any topic," and Loftis resigned a few days later. Yep, he's a perfect fit for the NC GOP.

NO MEDICAID EXPANSION IN THIS YEAR'S BUDGET PACKAGE: The latest budget offer that North Carolina Republicans sent to Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper wouldn't expand Medicaid broadly as Cooper seeks, but it does sweeten a previous proposal on worker pay raises, a top GOP legislator says. House Speaker Tim Moore gave few other details Wednesday about the offer that Senate leader Phil Berger and Moore's offices took to Cooper the day before — citing confidentiality so negotiations can remain frank. The legislative and executive branches are trying to hammer out a two-year government budget Cooper would be willing to sign into law. The alternative would be for lawmakers to approve their own final spending plan and try to override what would likely be a Cooper veto. Negotiations began in earnest three weeks ago with the first offer. “We’re either getting to the point of having a compromise with the governor or for simply proceeding with the legislative budget,” Moore told reporters. I wonder what other poison pills are still included in their "compromise" Budget...

PROUD BOYS STINK UP ORANGE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD MEETING: Several members of the right-wing Proud Boys group attended the Orange County Schools Board of Education work session on Oct. 11, held at A.L. Stanback Middle School. Now, future meetings will be virtual until the board determines a different location, Board Chairperson Hillary MacKenzie said in an email. The board had previously held meetings at different schools in the district in order to maintain social distancing, MacKenzie said. “Moving forward, we will avoid holding meetings on school campuses to keep those spaces secure and free from disruption to school events, clubs and athletics,” MacKenzie said in an email. The Proud Boys have been designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. “School campuses need to be kept secure from extremist groups,” MacKenzie said in an email. When the meeting opened for public comment, several speakers used that time to speak on topics unrelated to the agenda items, which violates board policy. “BLM is an organization founded by Marxists whose number one goal is to destroy America," Bill Whicker, a member of the Proud Boys, said during the public comment period for discussing the Math 180 program. Whicker makes regular idiots look good in comparison.

NEW TEXAS SECRETARY OF STATE IS BIG LIAR, FORMER TRUMP ATTORNEY: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) appointed John Scott — one of the attorneys who represented former president Donald Trump in his lawsuit challenging Pennsylvania’s 2020 election results — as the new secretary of state of Texas. As the state’s top election official, Scott will oversee next year’s races, including the governor’s race where Abbott is running for reelection. Abbott in his statement about the appointment praised Scott’s decades of experience in election law and litigation. When Abbott was attorney general, Scott served as a deputy attorney general. The Texas Tribune first reported on the appointment. The statement made no mention of Scott’s role in perpetuating Trump’s baseless claims that widespread voter fraud rigged the 2020 election for President Biden. Dozens of courts nationwide rejected the various lawsuits, with a Trump-appointed judge in Pennsylvania roundly rejecting the campaign’s challenge. “Calling an election unfair does not make it so. Charges require specific allegations and then proof. We have neither here,” Judge Stephanos Bibas, a Trump appointee to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, wrote last November for a panel of three judges — all appointed by Republican presidents. The US DOJ needs to watch that MF very closely next year.

Cawthorn's not so dumb

Cawthorn's not being an idiot with a proposed law against something that doesn't exist.

He's simply being a Nazi.

It's a common technique on the right these days to repeat a lie long enough that their supporters will believe it. Mark Robinson's doing it with his "communists in schools" crusade. Pat McCrory and the other Republican candidates for Senate are on Twitter everyday, doing the same thing about an imaginary border crisis. The NC GOP was doing it when they pushed through those NC constitutional amendments on things like hunting rights.

It was a common technique of the Nazi regime - getting laws passed to combat imaginary and non-existent threats to get their followers worked up

Remember that Cawthorn likes to do tourism of Nazi regime sites. He knows exactly what the hell he's doing.
