Find Biscoe!

This definitely had me looking up Biscoe:

Kissell and [gas station owner Benjy] Dunn invite the public to once again enjoy gas prices of $1.22 per gallon, the cost per gallon before Robin Hayes took office. This is a one time opportunity to highlight that our gas prices are too high, and our current Congressman is in bed with Big Oil.

It's about an hour south of Greensboro, just so you know, and well worth the drive if you're in the area. If you go out, be sure to buy some non-gas stuff from the service station as a "thank you" for being involved, and take your check book and donate what you saved on gas to Larry's campaign. The full press release follows for those still saying "whu!?"

Gas for $1.22 Per Gallon

Thursday, August 3 – Noon to 1pm – Biscoe, NC

This is a one time opportunity to highlight that our gas prices are too high, and our current Congressman is in bed with Big Oil.

BISCOE, NC – Join Larry Kissell, Democratic nominee for Congress in North Carolina's 8th District, this Thursday, August 3 from noon to 1 p.m. at Benjy Dunn's Filling Station in downtown Biscoe. Benjy Dunn's Filling Station is located at 103 West Main Street in Biscoe, near the stop light, right across from Kissell for Congress headquarters in Montgomery County.

Kissell and Dunn invite the public to once again enjoy gas prices of $1.22 per gallon, the cost per gallon before Robin Hayes took office. This is a one time opportunity to highlight that our gas prices are too high, and our current Congressman is in bed with Big Oil.

Robin Hayes (NC-08) has taken nearly $250,000 from Energy Special Interests (1) and nearly $135,000 from Oil and Gas Interests (2) while voting for a final energy bill that gave away billions to Oil, Gas and Nuclear Industries (3). Hayes also voted three times (4) against cracking down on price gouging and lowering gas prices, and against giving consumers immediate relief (5) at the gas pump with increased investment in new energy sources like ethanol just last year.

Yet this May, Hayes showed just how slick he's gotten since he made it to Washington by holding a press conference to promote ethanol as a viable energy alternative.

Then less than two weeks later he was right back to voting with Big Oil over tax paying consumers refusing to support an amendment to the Interior Appropriations bill (6) that would require royalty fees be charged to oil companies that drill in our public waters in the Gulf of Mexico.

At Robin Hayes' gas station press conference, he filled up his own tank then made a clean get-away back to Washington. Instead, Larry Kissell is going to fill up your tank, then clean up Washington.

If you get 10 gallons

You'll save about $18. This guy is going to empty his tanks. I wonder how this works for campaign finance law purposes?

Peace in the Mideast
An Interactive Teach-In and Workshop
Come Listen, Learn and Propose Solutions

The conflict in the Mideast between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon has the world concerned. Well-meaning people everywhere are looking for the conflict to end as quickly as possible while ensuring a long-lasting peace for Lebanon and Israel. But how to accomplish both goals?

That’s the question that will confront the audience this Wednesday evening, August 2nd beginning at 7:00 PM at the Southern Human Services Center, 2501 Homestead Road, Chapel Hill. The event is sponsored by the Orange County Democratic Party.

The goals of the event will be to:
Educate the public and explore where we stand as a community.
Encourage community dialogue on this critical foreign policy issue.
Ensure that the frame of the debate is not whom to blame, but how to create peace.

Speakers will include:
Professor Sarah Shields, UNC Associate Professor - Islamic Civilization
Professor Akram Khater of NCSU, Associate Professor - Director of International Programs
Professor Michael Hunt, UNC Everett H. Emerson Professor. U.S. foreign relations, American-East Asian relations

The program for the evening:

Following the speakers and a question and comment period (the teach-in), we will invite attendees to meet in small groups to discuss and agree on ideas about what US policy should be in the Mideast to promote long-term peace (the workshop). A brief report from each group will end the proceedings.

The dialogue will continue at the OCDP blog at http://orangedems.blogspot.com/

They've got professionals on board

who will make sure that any campaign finance details are handled properly. That's not a concern.

I'm going. I don't care if I get the gas, although it would be nice to fill 'er up. I'm going to take pictures of the long lines and festivities. I don't care if it's raining. I'll be there taking pictures.

This is sooo much better than Robin Hayes filling up HIS tank once on E-85. Larry is filling up other peoples' tanks instead of his own. Really fun idea. I love it.

Risky business

It's a neat stunt and sure to generate lots of free pub. But what of the folks still waiting in line at 1:01 p.m.? You have to figure the line will start forming HOURS before noon. If they don't allow everyone who is line at 1 p.m. to fill up, this could easily backfire. The local news would have a field day interviewing disgruntled "patrons".

I really don't think Biscoe is going to freak out

Nor do I believe its a stunt. What better way to highlight an elected offical's fallacies than staging an event that benefits the public in the same way they've been wronged?

And I could see this backfiring if the Kissell camp was run by monkeys. But they're not monkeys. They're spider monkeys.

News orgs will have a field day over Hayes's reaction. Or lack there of.

Be just, and fear not.

Our children need to know that some people fought back, when others collaborated.

Spider Monkeys are on it

As a Kissell staffer, let me assure you we are on the job and have worked out all the campaign finance concerns with attorneys. As for the logistics--we are on it and we promise to do our best to keep folks happy.

Thanks for all the support on Blue NC!

Spider Monkey

anyone remember that band? They rocked.

I made some calls for y'all the other day. The responses were either, blah, go away, or it's time to get rid of the bum. Seems to me the challenge is to turn the blahs into get rid of the bum.

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

Excellent

I wish I could be on hand to see your work Spider Monkey. But seeing the level of your sense of humor, I know its going to be a great event.

P.S. See you guys at the BBQ on the 5th!

Be just, and fear not.

Our children need to know that some people fought back, when others collaborated.

I know that aera and would come,BUT....

It is 6-7 hours of driveing for me. How come all you folks gotta live so far away from Me ,Syntax & Screwy? Makes a rough go of getting together to watch Monday Night Football or a Sunday NASCAR Race! And it is long distance for the phone so I cant call Anglico and Robert & aggrivate them at 3 in the morning! Of course ,It is a hour & forty minutes to Asheville if I wanted to go to Screwys so I will just stay huddled up here on top of the mountain.

Dan, I'll be there

and I promise to take plenty of pictures for you to enjoy.

Great

If Woodstock closed the New YorK Interstate they Kissell may stop the traffic on N>C> 220.

Great turnout

I was very pleased to see the turnout at this event. I got in line at 11:05 AM, got gas at 1:07 PM and when I drove back by at 1:52 PM they were still pumping! I thought it was a great event, a great idea and showed a world of support for Larry. If everyone who came out today would come out in November and vote Kissell for Congress, what a great thing that would be!! Great job guys! And a special thanks to Benjy and his staff at Dunn's Amoco.

It was awesome...

I didn't get gas, but I did take pictures and talked with people. There were people who waited for hours and were so grateful and everyone was smiling. You are right...it really was a great event.
