Election day open thread: One to go.

In one hour the polls open in North Carolina. Are you ready? Have all the lit you need for polling places? Got your list of people that need that one final push? We have been up all night (ok so I took an hour nap shoot me) preparing and we are ready to go. Take a minute, post what you are doing today to get Democrats elected and then go out and do it.

Note: Let's use this as our open thread for today. A

First I'm going to vote

because early voting for me was 40 minutes in the wrong direction. After I vote (and kiss my poor hubby as he sits out with the lit table in the rain), I'm going to phone bank until I can't talk no mo' Then I'm going to DL Asheville and watch the results come in.

Let's hope this rain keeps the less motivated Rs at home. It's pouring the mountains.

I remember my first post in what? March? Never blogged before. And I know I've been more of a commenter than a poster for a while but I still think of all you guys all the time and am soooo grateful for all you've done. Here's to BlueNC!!!!

And also a toast to all the great people (of any affiliation) who have the guts to put their names on the ballot and step up to the plate, willing to serve. (Except I can't toast anyone funded by Art Pope.)
“All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players.”

Just voted

...in Georgia. It was pleasure to vote for Congressman John Lewis (a much nicer incumbent to live with than, say, Howard Coble (who we are putting out of work in 2008!)). Of course, I also had to vote for a Democrat governor candidate who I don't especially care for and who won't win anyway.

Lines were long in this blue part of the state! How is your experience shaping up?

Voted last week

for Larry. Now I am going to Raleigh with the rest of my family and work the polls for Brad. Then we are going to celebrate the wins with the crowd in Raleigh!!!

Just Voted- 12 of us

My wife and I, My son and his wife, My mother in law, My daughter and her husband and 5 people from work just voted, Larry was at the top of the list for all of us. I just wanted to thank Momo, RANT, Blue South, and especially Southern Dem for their work on my good friend'd Lary campaign. You guys are GREAT!!!!!

With 12 at once, that's a Movement!

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

living in orange county

means you don't really have to worry any of the elections here with a D next to their names, since they almost always win, but I'm going to go work the polls for Robin Hudson, who is running for state supreme court. I'm also going to go to a moveon.org calling party here to call progressives in competitive states and remind them to vote.

Headed out to drive voters to the polls

I'm getting ready to head out to drive elderly voters to the polls. I have judge palm cards printed up and a sign up sheet for future voter outreach projects.

Unfortunately, it's raining here in the Triangle which may deter some from going to the polls, especially those who have to take public transportation.

Keeping my fingers crossed for Shuler and Kissell!

I hope to have the opportunity to meet any of you who will be at the NCDP Victory party tonight!

Best of luck everyone!

My sister

Lives in Virginia. Until yesterday she was considering a vote for George "Macaca" Allen. She said Jim Webb would "let the illegals stay here." It took me a good long while to calm myself, but somehow or another I did it. She just emailed to say she voted for Webb at 7 this morning.

Stay strong.

Got my vote in

right before the rain started. Now it's pouring.

Southern Dem called in from her polling station...she's getting rained on, but all is well.

Got a report that the 'burma shave' signs have popped up around the Meck portions of the 8th.

Also heard of some voting machine delays in Pct 63 that had the early morning crowd waiting for about an hour while poll workers figured out how to get the machines powered up. Supposedly everything is up and running OK.

Got a call from the pct 141 - around UNCC - to report a higher turnout than usual. Looks like the College Dems came through after all!

Thanks WFC!

I have everything crossed that can possibly be crossed and am sending all the good vibes in the universe your way today.

that's great

Is UNCC in the 8th or 12th district?

Here in Raleigh, they drew the districts around NCSU pretty funky....most on-campus students vote in the 2nd (Etheridge) leaving most off-campus students voting in the 13th (Miller). Very odd.

we put up those burma shave signs

We've put up 14 "burma shave" sign sets in the middle of the night on sunday.
I was expecting them to get destroyed real quick, so wanted to have them up for the monday morning traffic rush. Surprisingly enough most of them still seem to be up.
We put some of them up in cabarrus County, but also a few in the Charlotte university area.

Larry Kissell

good, I think...

I don't have a clear view of what the turnout is.
Several precincts have reported a high turnout, but the predominantly african-american precincts have a low turnout.

I also got reports from several polling stations that the pollworker that was there for Hayes works in his D.C. office.
Guess he has a problem lately with finding volunteers :-)
I heard that one of his pollworkers was picked up from the polling station by a black mercedes Limo.

We are doing the best we've ever done as far as having poll workers out.
Half of our polling places have someone there all the time and about 80% have someone there at least part of the time.

So I can assure you that we've worked our "you know what" off here.

See you tonight at the celebration in Biscoe!

Larry campaigned

during the shift change at the just-announced-it-will-be-closing mill in Scotland County last night.

Robin Hayes hid from the press all weekend.

Just sayin'...

Correction. Rep Hayes...

...the Republican incumbent in the 8th Congressional District, and U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole greet supporters Monday at a Hayes campaign rally at the Red Pig Cafe in Concord.

hehehe...the Fayetteville Observer said Robin Hayes and Red Pig in the same sentence!

Voted first thing this morning

At 6:45 the polling place in Wake Forest had a line 50 people deep out the door. The judge I talked to said they had a line when they opened and they were surprised at the turnout so far. She thought it was higher than expected. Go Brad!

To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only UNPATRIOTIC and servile, but it is morally treasonable to the American public.

Politicians are like diapers. They should be changed frequently, and for the same reasons.

SD called in from her polling location

If I could describe a Republican it would look like the guy that just walked by me. I held up my Kissell for Congress sign and said 'I hope you'll consider voting for Larry Kissell' to which he replied 'I see your sign, honey. I want Hayes out of there, too.'

We're going to win.

Voted earlier this morning, steady in 5Points Raleigh

At 7am the only poll worker was for Mr. Brad Miller :)

We had a nice chat and both feel very optimistic about the whole day. If I didnt have to work OR tutor I would be doing more today. But I'll settle for telling everyone I meet to go vote Democrat. NOW.

Our children need to know that some people fought back, when others collaborated.

I'm voting...

...this afternoon so my youngest son can participate. Our oldest son voted for the first time!!! absentee a few weeks ago from UNCA. I've tried to do what I can in my little corner from calling unaffiliated voters, helping employees register to vote (careful not to tell them WHO to vote for),canvassing my family and neighbors and putting out signs. Later I'll be retrieving signs from my precinct. It just never seems like enough, but YOU guys at BlueNC are awesome and following the NC races through this site and learning about your volunteering efforts has been truly inspirational.

Another Republican for Kissell

Our SD is at it again...

I just convinced a Republican to vote for Larry. He saw my sign and said he had never heard of him (larry), so I started to explain Larry's positions and the gentleman explained all of his concerns....and they were all problems with Robin Hayes. He doesn't like free trade agreements and he's worried about immigration. When I explained how Larry stood on those issues the man took one of my flyers and said "I'm going to go vote for your man"

Back for a minute from working the polls at our precinct...

Potty break. Heavy turnout so far even with rain here in Wilmington. By 10 AM we had about 25% of the voters in our precinct already voting. More later.
Good luck to all....

I've driven by...

...a polling place (not mine) in town and it does look like turnout is good...rain and all. Fingers crossed, fingers crossed.

I'm anxiously awaiting

the first post from Southern Dem, regarding her day at the polls. Than you yet once again for all the work you've done for the Kissell campaign SD. You're a beacon of light.

anyone wanting to phone bank for moveon in chapel hill call me at 704-604-6497 and you can come by my friend's house and either call there or pick up a page of numbers to take home.

Have to work today, so no poll watches or

calls during the day. Have had a number of friends and family contact me and we went over the ballot together. They wanted to know more about the Dem candidates and the judges in particular. Have posted Voter Info on my blog at the Pilot Newspaper Online and have called friends and family everywhere to make sure they'll get out and vote DEM! My daughter's mother-in-law in Charlotte called me yesterday to make sure she is voting for the right people, Larry Kissell most importantly. Tonight, after work, I am taking my camera and going to stand in line (hope it's a good long one) to vote. I will be joining the party here tonight and try to keep the voting results posted here and at my blog. I hope to retire in 2007 and will be more involved in poll watching and GOTV efforts for the 2008 elections! All over the web, everyone I've talked to has everything crossed....high, high hopes on this election. Just can't imagine what would happen if the Dems don't take control back....

Just in from four hours in the pouring rain.

We had a good turnout at my precinct in Orange County. The only problem? Most dems already had the voter guide from the GOTV operation we have been doing for the last month : )

Getting ready to call Dems who haven't voted yet as soon as I get my list of 200.

Brrrrr....I'm also drying my clothes and boots!!!

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

Just talked to Larry

He's sounds very upbeat and invited everyone on down to Biscoe tonight.

Turnout continues to be "brisk" here in key precincts and all feedback is positive.

Raleigh lunchtime

Still raining cats and dogs in Raleigh and it's a sea of laptops in this coffee shop. Here's a few crumbs to tide you over until this evening:

Vernon Robinson said he will steal 15% of the black vote

Called2Action makes its most direct partisan appeal yet in an election day ActionGram. Wonder how that will sit with the IRS.

Compete.com's blog today features information from a survey of people who have visited popular political websites in the past few months. It compares their claims to party affiliation to what their internet behavior says about them.

Voting in Durham - Rain

Heavy rain at lunchtime here in Durham. Voted at my precinct - I was #927 for the day - out of 4,289 total in the precinct, so that's about 22% by midday. Considering the only excitement here is over the DA's race, that's not too shabby. Hopefully, Durham will provide a nice cushion for the statewide judges like we usually do.

Heavy Rain in Moore County

Drove by a couple of polling places and THERE ARE LINES!!! Now that was in Pinehurst....still hope thats a good thing.

Media outlets predicting low turnout in NC

More reason to go out and get your friends to jump in line also this afternoon. We have until 7:30 tonight to win this thing; do not give up now.

100 calls down.

After 8 hours in the rain we've called it a day...

Soaked to the skin here in Wilmington. Looks like a min of 50-60% in our precinct. 1300+ of 2700 had voted by 3PM. I'm not sure what to think cuz we live in a red area. We don't have any really critical national races going on here...but we're hoping and working for Larry and Heath.

I'm with you Stan.

I made my head cold much worse, I'm sure the last few dozen people I called wondered if I had a clip on my nose.

Just finished

over four hours of phone banking in my precinct (the largest precinct in Wilkes County- NC-05). Probably going to head to the poll and hand out flyers around 6pm as the after-work crowd heads in. Then, it's off to Sharpe HQ in Forsyth.

Personally, I'm feeling pretty good right now!

Hi everyone!

I'm home just long enough to drop the kids off, change into dry clothes and head back out. I wasn't able to be at the poll right at 6:30am, but I've been out there about 7 hours and will be out for about 2.5 more tonight.

It's so hard to tell how things are going. I will tell you that the folks I know are Democrats (They identify themselves as such) are upbeat and cheerful. The folks who duck their heads and look away......well....I doubt they are Dems.

Turnout isn't high enough for my tastes, but higher than expected in this weather. I have to run back out. Keep your fingers and toes crossed.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own.

My first election day not at a poll in a while

I figured it was too early to take a day off of work, but I certainly was not as productive as I normally am.

My wife and I voted early. And I convinced a couple of friends to vote for Sharpe.

Hopefully helping to start this site can count as my contribution (although it grew exponentially once I stopped regularly blogging).

Now I am a bundle of nerves not being able to be out there helping. Work extra hard for me; I promise to rejoin you in '08.

I voted...

...and voted well! Poll workers said turnout was much better than expected and they had been busy all day. My area is heavily Republican so it's hard to know if that is a good sign or not...certainly wasn't in '04...groan. SD, you are so right about those head-ducking Republicans. But I remain hopeful and optimistic and ever so humbled by the energy and commitment from all of you at BlueNC.
