Now is the time to champion America by advocating for the Democrat we know will defeat any Republican challanger. You decide who that Democrat is. I admire you Robert. You remind me of Thomas Paine.
John Edwards will still have alot to say after the November elections, and I believe, will find himself in a place to say it.
You will and I'll want to know what you think about things because I haven't been following local/state issues as well as I used to. We were in Myrtle Beach and Columbia and had a chance to talk with John. We had NO idea this was coming...but could tell John was tired. And since E wasn't with him we were worried..but Cate said she was fine.
It's going to take me awhile to get beyond this and re-energized. We're trying to decide how we can best accomplish something for the progressive movement. Right now we're still in shock...like you...and Betsy...and more.
Hey Stan, have you ever stopped and read the stuff you put up here? This whole page is full of your vitriol and hatred. I haven't insulted anybody, simply stated the facts, but yes, I am the one who is the asshole. LOL! Thank you for your amusement this evening.
You're right, Edwards has a great deal to contribute. I look forward to catching coverage of the press conference because I know he will say something encouraging. But it's hard not to feel sad about it.
I think I'm going to go with Obama as well. It isn't an easy decision, but the Clintons' SC campaign sort of pushed me over.

I think Edwards is terrific, and I've donated only to him.
But the Clinton's SC campaign was too negative for me, and I'd been moving towards Obama recently.
And talk radio (Stephanie Miller/Ed Schultz) keeps having Republicans calling in saying they support Obama. Hillary might be an ok president, but I'm afraid she'd be a poor candidate. We need to win.
If Edwards endorses Obama, then his place in my heart will be sealed forever.
I'm honestly stunned. I wasn't expecting this at all. NOT. AT. ALL.
Please, please, please don't let this be about...hell, I don't even want to say it.

For me, there is no choice but to support Obama - and that doesn't make me sad. What makes me sad is I won't get the chance to say "President Edwards." I still think he would have been the best one.
Be the change you wish to see in the world. --Gandhi
Caroline Kennedy's op-ed piece in Sunday's NYTimes will have me support Obama now. I've only volunteered for and donated to John, and I still think he'd be the best President. Obama will have a steep learning curve, and we saw with Bill Clinton how many stumbles can be made in the first 90 days when Democrats are trying to take up the reins after years of Rethuglican misrule.
When you give yourself to a campaign like this, having it ended feels like a gut punch, but a lot worse.
All I can say is, try not to be too down. Edwards fundamentally changed the campaign for the better, and that is no meager accomplishment. And for that matter, look at Howard Dean's campaign -- after imploding, he took the same movement to take control of the DNC, which lead to the congressional wave of 2006.
I've posted this more than any other clip, it is fundamentally the reason I supported him so strongly, and why I have such a problem with everyone else.

I've tried to emulate John Edwards by not giving any credence to some of the stupid haircut/mansion/ambulance chaser bullshit that's been tossed around since day one.
I've ground my teeth in frustration listening to people say stupid shit like, "Well, he doesn't really have any plan, does he?", simply because they were too fucking lazy to find out and the media damned sure wasn't going to hand them any information that was useful.
When he didn't give up quick enough, I've watched the media try to paint him as a racist who was holding back the first black President, as if he was being stubborn or selfish. Ann Coulter even got away with calling him a faggot and then turned it against him, because they mentioned it on his campaign website.
I'm sorry, folks. We can sit here and say, "He did a fine job but now we need to pick someone else." But before we do that I want to make something abundantly clear—the Democratic Party has already screwed up again.
We've taken someone who could have brought so much needed change to this country and we marginalized him. Why? Because we don't really want change. We say we do, but most of us are comfortable and don't really give a shit about those who live in poverty. We say we care about other things such as health care and preserving American jobs, but we sure don't act like it.
I will eventually come around to supporting the Democratic nominee, but for now, I'm way too disgusted with this Party to even contemplate sacrificing any more of my time helping it.
Just long enough to commiserate. John is the only candidate I supported and I am sorry he's bowing out. He has been the voice of the people when no one else will speak.
Seems to me, this leaves the progressives with the choice of the lesser of two evils. I'm sorry, but all Barack has going is a cult of personality, and Hillary has, well, Bill and the beltway boobs. Either way, it'll be just more of the same and you can bet the general is going to be brutal and reach new lows for negative campaigning, swift boating and just plain old nasty politics. And in the end, the Dems will find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory once again. Edwards was the last hope for the country, as see it. But you just knew the corporations that run this country were going to do whatever was required to make sure his message didn't get out.

First, kudos to Robert. When Edwards first cranked up his campaign I was not too interested in someone I perceived as a "no show" on some of the key elements of his campaign (I was thinking of his UNC poverty law experience, which, to me, seemed to stress PR over action).
As the months went by, I kept up on the campaign's efforts not through their glitzy site (which is pretty good) but through the neighbor grapevine - most notably Robert's efforts.
Here was a candidate trying to field specific, credible and new initiatives to solving some of our country's most difficult issues. And, of course, he was more than clear on Iraq - an issue the Obama and Clinton still can't summon the guts to address head on.
I was hoping that Edwards would find the middle way here - to last out the nastiness growing between the two "front runners" - and be seen as the compromise candidate this year. Obama should grab Edwards support now instead of following what I'm sure will be the top-level Dem political advisor advice to wait to see how the wind blows.
Again, a disappointing trend continues in 2008.
Folks like Feingold don't run. Folks like Kucinich, who had some very interesting and fresh approaches (the real "change" candidate) to governance - a candidate consistent to his vision - shut up and shut out by the mega-corps.
And candidate Edwards - who has evolved his stance, learned from his mistakes, been direct in his calls to better our country (facing our racial, economic and social divides head on) - not making it to super Tuesday.
If Hillary is the candidate I'll vote for her - but I'm hoping for the promise of real change and am going to pull for Obama.
Thanks John for running.

Just for starters, the media has decided who is going to run this race...and they've jammed Hillary and Obama down every one's gullet by ignoring the issues and ignoring Edwards...with a vengeance. Why...because the media loves a circus...and instead of reporting the news they've created the news and distorted the facts either by insinuation or ignoring the distortions of their own people and others. J. Toobin on CNN said recently there was no difference between the Democratic Candidates health care plans. Jack Cafferty, who is a highly paid curmudgeon who also can't find his own ass with both hands, has been ridiculing Edwards for months. Cafferty isn't fit to step in Edwards spit. Now. after they've had their media circus, guess what they're gonna do...they're going to give favor to the candidate they perceive is most likely to kiss their corporate ass.
Now, just to set your narrow little mind at ease, I wouldn't stop to pee in Clinton's shoes if her feet were on fire.
My wife and I have spent the last five years working for John. We know them and their family. They are GOOD and DECENT people...and they haven't deserved the shit you and many like you have thrown at them.
Robert and many others here have also worked their butts off for a cause they believe in. For you to stick your shit in our faces today is despicable.
I'm normally a pretty peaceful guy, but FUCK YOU and the pig you rode in on.

Where did i say that John and Elizabeth aren't good people?
What "shit" have i thrown on them???
I didn't stick shit in your faces i was replying to what was a debate on "what now?".
Wrong time huh? yeah, i get that point.
I can understand you being pissed off, but I would be the last person you have to be pissed off at! You calling someone who's been working his butt off in SC for Obama, because he thinks that this would be the best candidate to clean up the Bush mess, someone who has "shit for brains". Maybe you should use that term for people who just don't care at all?
Is it my fault Edwards is out of the race? Jesus Christ, i didn't know there were people like you on here. You're acting way out of line and way out of proportion.
