Drink Liberally Tonight!

Finally, it's time again for Drinking Liberally Chapel Hill! This whole "only meeting twice a month" thing is kind of a drag. Our goal for tonight has got to be to get enough people out to Tyler's to justify at least one more monthly meeting. And to show up the Repubbies who mocked—that's right: mocked—our flyer while I was at Kinkos. Yes, it's truly hard to be enlightened these days. For most folks, anyway. For the rest of us, there's Drinking Liberally. Who's With Mah!?

Oh, I almost forgot—don't forget the words of the dread Pirate Robert: Ye'll walk yourself home with heart heavy and black if ye forget the Speakeasy's in the back!

WHAT: "An informal, inclusive progressive drinking club. Raise your spirits while you raise your glass, and share ideas while you share a pitcher. Drinking Liberally gives like-minded, left-leaning individuals a place to talk politics. You don't need to be a policy expert and this isn't a book club - just come and learn from peers, trade jokes, vent frustration and hang out in an environment where it's not taboo to talk politics.

Bars are democratic spaces - you talk to strangers, you share booths, you feel the bond of common ground. Bring democratic discourse to your local democratic space - build democracy one drink at a time."

WHERE: Tyler's Taproom, in lovely Carrboro, North Carolina. Here's a map!

WHEN: Thursday, April 6, from 7pm until 10pm. Drop by for a minute or for hours.

WHO: Just the best kind of folks.

WHY: You need a reason? I mean, another reason?

A recommendation

Rather than waiting for enough people to "justify" more than two nights a month, just go ahead and have it every week. The people will come. It took the Asheville DL chapter about 6 weeks to get rolling.

Also, get a press release together and send it to all the usual print media suspects. Invite your city council members. Invite members of the press and city business leaders.

The week after our chapter made into the local weekly Mountain Xpress we had 35 attendees. We're listed in their "community calendar" every week, and most of our new people come from seeing that little blurb.

Don't wait for numbers. Have the meeting, and they will come.

Thanks, I'll do that!

I mean about the press release and community calendar stuff. We'll scheme on that tonight. Thanks for the advice!

It's an election season

contact Mike Nelson, he's running for county commish from Carrboro.

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

Come out, come out!

Even if you're straight. We're here at Tyler's and the beer is cold.

Bill and Lance

Good to see you both tonight at Tylers . . . sorry I couldn't stay longer. Thanks for holding forth!

Ah. Ah, yes.

Drinking Liberally was a blast. Ruby and Brian and WillR stopped by, and along iwth Bill we had a great chat about local politics and what makes them different from the national scene. Aftwrwards, I stopped by the Cat's Cradle and listended to Dead Meadow and acidentally drank a few more bears. Still, I am home safe and my little puppy, Daisy, who recently had her lady parts removed in favor of eternal puppyhood, is taking care of me. Good night all!

Ah drat and double drat

My wife had to take off at the last minute to watch a friend's kids. So, I was at home with our kids. Kids soooooooooo get in the way of drinking...
