Memorial Day Remembrance

In memory today of my uncle ADJ1 Toney Barnett, USN, who died 29 July 1967 in the tragic flight deck fire on USS Forrestal in the Gulf of Tonkin.

In memory today of my USNA Classmate LT Jim Surch, USN, who died 23 October 1983 in the terrorist attack on the Marine barracks in Beirut.

And in memory of all those who gave their lives in service.

"All gave some, and some gave all."

The measure of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little. - FDR

And the list of those to remember

keeps growing:

A Jacksonville native died Thursday while serving with the 101st Airborne in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Saturday.

Staff Sgt. Ergin V. Osman, 35, and five other American soldiers were killed when an improvised explosive device went off in the Kandahar province.
