Counting for Kissell

There seems to be a lot of confusion out there about just how the numbers are falling in NC-08. It all started when a precinct or machine was double counted in the wee hours Wednesday morning. It looked like Larry had picked up 122 votes. As it stands Hayes has 465 votes more than Larry.

There are almost 1500 provisional votes that have been cast, but I'm not sure if they've been validated yet. If so, Larry would need a little over 65% of them or 977 votes to win by one vote. Provisional votes will not be counted or added to the total until November 17.

The vote will be certified on November 28 and a recount can only be requested after the vote is certified. A recount can be requested if the difference in vote totals is less than 1% of the total votes cast. I can't imagine a scenario given these facts where this race will not face a recount.

Please follow below the fold....

All counties but Mecklenburg have optical scan machines. Mecklenburg's electronic machines have a paper trail. Paper absentee and curbside ballots will be visually reviewed. There is plenty of room for human error and according to Larry Kissell, the DCCC and the NCDP, there is a team in place that is more than qualified to make sure every vote is counted.

We simply have to be patient and trust in those people who are trained to verify election results. I know it's hard. We want answers and we want them now.

Larry remains confident and is amazingly calm and confident. He has faith that the right people are in place to do the right thing.

What can we do? Keep our ears and eyes open. If you live in the 8th District and hear someone talking about a voting irregularity, ask them to report it. If you know of a voting irregularity, please report it. You can contact the Board of Elections in your area, the press, the police, the Democratic Party for your county or the North Carolina Democratic Party.

I'll have some more reports coming up about the campaign and some of the wonderful things that have happened as a result of it. If we hear anything I'll be sure to post it. Otherwise, please know that the folks handling this are the best at what they do. Our votes will be protected.

Thanks, SD.

You're the best. This really helps understand the path forward.

Absolutely! WFC

You can pull that off. I'm just doing the mom thing and pretending that I'm not a bundle of nerves. So far, I don't think it's working.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own.

With a recount, would they attempt to recover any ballots not counted due to undervotes, overvotes, or otherwise spoiled ballots? In 2000, optical scan ballots had about 3% undervotes/overvotes nationwide. More than 130,000 in Florida for Bush vs Gore...

Need to look at every uncounted ballot. Could be a gold mine there for Larry.

He deserves to win!!

Southern Dem I don't know Larry but I sure hope he will emerge a winner as opposed to Hayes. A Kissel win would be a perfect ending to this election year! The people in my district are greatful that Van Braxton was elected rather than Willie Ray Starling. We look forward to your reports and thanks for the updates and all of your hard work.

Thank you Soundoff!

I have met some of the most wonderful people through these tubes who live over your way. I hope to visit at some point next year. I gotsta see me that boat and meet my new friends! Thanks for stopping by. After things calm down I hope to interview Van about what the race was like and what he hopes to accomplish.

979 OF 1492 & or RECOUNT - Hang Tough Larry

If every vote is counted including apparent undervotes and overvotes on scanners plus the provisionals, history indicates Larry will be the winner. The disabled, the elderly and racial minorities have more trouble with ballots than average and tend to vote Dem. There could easily be 3000 uncounted votes with 2000 for Larry and 1000 for Hayes.

DON'T GIVE UP!!! shouting intended!

Patience is a virtue

I sure hope there are other virtues, 'cause I'm not doing to good with the patience thing.

Kissell team working 24/7

I know the Kissell team is working 24/7 to make sure every vote is counted and the 8th doesn't turn into Dade County. So let's cross our fingers. I have enjoyed this run and hope it continues.

Hayes is a loser

Hayes should just concede. He had little purpose being in Congress while his party was in the majority and he has absolutely no purpose being there in the minority.

But, but ...

Who's gonna name all those post offices without Flipper's guiding hand?

Payback is a bitch.

I'm looking forward to a whole swath of William Jefferson Clinton postoffices and John Murtha postoffice and Jimmy Carter square.

CountryCrats - my thoughts, my blog.

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

Is it the 17th yet?

Jesus H. Christ, why they gotta do this to us?

I know

I cant take it.

"Keep the Faith"

The public just doesn't get it.

Our former mayor who I knew all my life was a good democrat. He died in office several years ago. Robin Hayes had a post office named after him and now the Dawkins family thinks Hayes is some kind of god. His widow was making calls for him and saying that she was a democrat, but she was for Robin Hayes and even said it was because he had the post office named for J.L. His son changed parties. Obviously they don't understand that whoever had been the congressman at the time would have done the same thing.

Everytime you get nervous about the outcome of Larry's race just think of two things:
Dems control the House
Dems control the Senate

It will wash all the tension away.
