BlueNC WoW - Open Thread 5/23

Welcome to BlueNC Women on Wednesdays. We have a few posts going up throughout the day, so pull up a chair and lets chat.

This may be the first WoW day where I actually write a post. I'm very angry that we had two Democrats voting to move hate legislation to the floor of the North Carolina House. I'm even angrier that five Democrats failed to show up to do their jobs yesterday. They better hope their excuses are good enough. Deaths and births - theirs or a family member's - are about the only excuses I'm willing to accept right now.

To these seven Democrats (I do have my numbers right, don't I?) I have this to say: We're Democrats, we're angry and we vote.

They need to keep that in mind the next time they allow hate anywhere near the North Carolina constitution.

Happy WoW Day.

I was reading something on my Google Reader, which took me to this You Tube video.

Last real estate agent coming in a bit

I will be in and out until she leaves. Boy, do I have stories to tell. This has been grueling. I guess the RE business is really good these days because there are lots of agents who won't mess with anything under $300,000. Oh well.

Why bother with less?

$300,000 only nets $9,000 each for the buyer's and listing agents.

But the "lower" end gets you customers

who might upgrade later. Younger folk who will stick with you through the "thin" years of the future . . . I guess maybe they figure middle class people have no hope of moving up and that there will be no thin years in the future.

Ha!

In my hometown the average house price is about $40,000. They would be SOL.

Working women.

Neighbor, friend, and author Amy Tiemann on the Today show a few weekends ago (just posted today), talking about...well, guilt and mothership. As a husband and father I've seen this second hand, but haven't had to live through it. I thought this was appropriate for WoW.

Very nice....thanks, Robert

Lotta guilt with motherhood, but then, I figure there's a lotta guilt felt by any conscientious person. Who here doesn't feel a twinge of guilt that they aren't doing enough in some area of their life? Maybe on the whole women are more prone to it.

I know that our society has a way of working a number on moms - stay at home and you aren't contributing financially to society/family/taking care of yourself and if you work then you must be neglecting your children/husband/home. It's all a load of crap. What's right for me isn't necessarily right for my neighbor. We've gotta stop beating each other up as a way to feel better about our own choices.

yes.

That was one thing Amy said at the end, "we" should work together to make women feel empowered no matter WHAT they choose to do with career and family.

Some cool news

My aunt, who is a Park Service interpreter at the Carl Sandberg house outside Hendersonville, got to write a paper for the appropriation this year. From what I understood from my mom last night, her paper will be read on the Hill today and Maya Angelou is slated to read a Sandberg poem at the opening okay, that's what I get for posting second-hand news. I FINALLY got a call from the source. Pearl said she feels like Maya Angelou for writing something that someone else would read. My apologies. Now, this is supposed to be televised on CSPAN today, but I don't see a listing for it on their site. If anyone catches it (and can record it), I'd love to hear.

Go, woman-power :-)

Update The telecast is supposed to begin in a few minutes. This is so cool.

Woo Hooooo

We just hired a real estate agent. I'm so excited. She was the last we interviewed and she had her game face on. First agent that treated us like our property was worth listing and she happens to be the most successful agent we met with. I'm so excited.

Finally.

That's why she is successful.

I can't believe the agents that you have interviewed. Do you live in Beverly Hills?

Lovex7

Seriously, WTF?

Given what I've read about large real estate firms in the big cities cutting their staffs like crazy, the threat of home sales slowing down or stopping, and so forth, you would think these people would be trying to make good impressions and making every sale they possibly could.
