(Betsy) musings on the crappy job a couple of reporters are doing
This kind of hit job happens almost everyday ... and we need to call them out every time it happens. Kudos to Democratic Muse for digging into the details.
I don't think the N&O reporters are lazy or irresponsible. On the contrary, I think they're hardworking professionals who take their work seriously. Yet I do think that the articles and the headlines were rather slanted -- and unfairly so. I'm not a fan of Bev Perdue, nor do I think Pryor Gibson is above chicanery, but the way this thing happened, the inside knowledge that I'm pretty sure the reporters have about how letters get drafted, edited, redrafted and signed, was not really given a fair representation in these articles. And GEEZ, I *hate* it when I find myself sympathizing with Perdue. I appreciate Betsy's work on this issue and am glad she stood up.
I really didn't mean lazy/irresponsible in general terms. I felt the writing was lazy and sloppy, which was irresponsible for professional reporters. I didn't mean to lay a blanket accusation at their feet, though. (how lazy and irresponsible of me! :) )
