Below is the letter Charlotte City Council Anthony Foxx sent to his supporters about his formal campaign announcement.

Dear Friend,

Last October -- well before the outcome of the 2008 elections was known -- I stated my intent to run for Mayor of Charlotte. On April 16, my intentions shift into actions as I make a formal announcement of my candidacy. You are a valued friend and partner in our community-wide effort to make Charlotte an even better place to live, and I am asking you and those you know to join us for this event.

Our formal announcement will culminate at West Charlotte High School, my alma mater, after a day of moving throughout Charlotte to highlight our critical challenges and opportunities. During the day, I will speak with residents from neighborhoods in every corner of the city -- an extension of the representation I have provided Charlotte since I was first elected to City Council.

The doors at West Charlotte High School will open at 5:15PM. There will be signs and volunteers to direct you once you arrive.

Our tour stops will be posted on our website at www.AnthonyFoxx.com in the coming days. We prefer to have you join in the celebration in person, however if you cannot attend, you can go to our website to watch the celebration live. We are doing something no other local candidate has ever done; we will be live streaming the announcement from our website.

This event is the first step on the road to victory. This campaign will not be easy, and I will need you to remain strong in your belief that Charlotte can do even better than we have in the past -- that challenges presented by the current economic times also present new opportunities for our community.
