I'm going to the polls today with my daughter, who will be voting for her first time. She'll be 18 in July, which means she's allowed to vote in the primary. She is registered as unaffiliated.
Big day.

Congratulations to Mom, Dad and Lily!
This is an exciting day. I remember standing in line to vote in my first presidential election.

Congratulations!
cool!
I'm hoping to stand in my first line to vote in November.
Congratulations, Lily, James and Jane!
We voted for the first time with our son in last November's municipal elections. It's a very exciting day for parents - David wasn't sure why I was so excited, but he felt kind of grown up, too. He attended his first precinct meeting this past March, but missed the convention on Saturday, because he was busy going all the way to the Semi-Finals in the CFL State Debate Contest. (this is a great accomplishment!)

I meant to add, we're looking forward to meeting everyone
next Sunday. Grace has had a photog and web job come up so won't be coming, but David is coming because he's been assured that there will be other teens there.

It was 1976, we had just been through the Nixon years
and Gerald Ford had been sworn in as POTUS after Nixon had resigned.
I just barely turned 18 (in October) but I was able to vote that November for the first time. There was this peanut farmer from the deep South by the name of Jimmy Carter that got my first official vote. It was SUCH an exciting time to me.
Congratulatons on your first voting experience together, Dad and Daughter.

Yay for first timers !!!
My daughter votes for the first time this primary, too. My first born votes absentee for the primary, though it's not his first time. Still, it's very exciting!! :)

I forgot to tell you that I got married when I was 14. This is the south.

Woo Hoo! I take it he can't vote for his great Uncle?

He can't,
but he registered as a Democrat. Somebody asked him if he registered as a Democrat or a Republican and he looked at them like they had just grown another head.
The sad part is that they are moving to Virginia in June. He's going to Old Dominion because his mama isn't ready to let go. At least she is going to let him live on campus.

Congrats!
Ahhh, firsts! First vote, first beer, first lie, first love, first fight, first car, first romp in the backseat of a Chevy, first shot of Bushmills, first hangover, first job, first ulcer, first paycheck ... fond memories!

Someday when you say this, your kids or grandkids will look at your like you're discussing a rotary phone.

LOL!
True. (And it really was a Chevy.)
Having been born in 1978...
...I was eligible to vote in 1996. Oddly enough, my oldest son will be eligible to vote in another presidential election year (2024). My youngest only gets a midterm (2026)
I think it makes a big difference turning 18 during an presidential election year. It would be interesting to do the math on that.

That's OK Robert.
It was OK to dance to, but you wouldn't have liked the ending.
