RE: Shuler as a future threat

Second, Shuler is dangerously young. If elected he could hold the seat for decades. Something like 94 percent of Representatives are re-elected in most election cycles. We could end up with an arch-conservative Dem in that seat for most of the rest of my life. Worse, he might switch back to the Republican party.

This state endured Jesse Helms, once a conservative Democrat, and the rest just too painful to recall.

Cecil, I am sure you my friend are very much steadfast in your convictions! This is a very good way to be my friend! BUT, I hate to ADMIT IT ABOUT MYSELF, but as Gordon would say,"The Truth will always stand even if the world be on fire!" I am both Conservative and Progressive, I know it is probally crazy to say that but up till this year when I met Gordon and others over at BlueNC in Cyberland I admit I really didn"t understand that much about the Progressive movement. AND, I can find "NO WRONG" in takeing eaither stance!

As to Heath being young , I find nothing wrong with that. Personally ,My beleif is that we DO NEED the younger canadates to represent us! The younger canadates have more enegery and can think quicker than us older Dems ,of which, some of us seem to suffer from "CRS" syndrome. It is a common thing that happens when one hit's the 49-50 yr old mark! I personally know Heath very well and have discussed the isues with him well enough to know he DOES know about our problems and being young gives him a advantage us old farts dont have, He can think and react quicker!

I personally feel that if Heath is elected he will do 2 things. 1. He will represent all of us in the district very honestly and honorably! 2. He will not do as Taylor and others have done for so many years, I beleive Heath will remember Balsam Gap IS NOT the state line. Being from Graham County, I can say that because the Far West has been forgotten about for far too long
As to compareing Taylor with Jessie Helms isnt even a contest! It's more like bringing a knife to a gunfight!Cool Let me say this and I will hush, I am a disabled Vet. I ran into all kinds of problems trying to get my Social Security Disability and VA in order. One turn down notice after the other, Over & Over, just like a game! I mentioned it to the Ex-Head Federal Marshall who lves here in Robbinsville. He gave me Jesse's home number. Well, I had been fighting for over a year and never once got a letter from Taylor,NADA, Nuthin!

Well, When I called Jesse I told him the problem and also told him right off the bat, I was a regerstered Democrat. Now, Here was Jesse, this man with all this political power & authority! He quite simply replyed, Daniel, I have met your father (Dad & The Ex-Marshall worked together before he became a marshall.) and son ,Let's get this straight right off the bat, I dont care what your politics are, You my friend are disabled and you are a vet which means to me you earned the right to ask and receive my help! And you know what? I had his help within 4 days as upon the 5th day I received a call fromhis his Rep in his Hickory Office telling me everything had been approved and they were sending the forms from SSD & VA for me to sign.

He even went so far as to call me a week later to see how things were progressing. I know everyone ,both Republicans & Democrats didnt like him, but I can at the same time personally introduce you to quite a few of my fellow Far Western Dems that he did help and that still admire him.

I guess ,The main point I am trying to make here is this; Heath hasn't even been elected yet. None of us, except for the psychic ones know what the outcome will be! But lets all give Heath a fair chance, A Fighting chance! He is our best and only choice at this time. Let's not compare nothing he is doing with races ran by Democrats of past elections! Reguardless of anyones views and convictions, be they Progressive or be they Conservative, The most important thing for us to do at this point is to put differences aside and just like in football or in NASCAR. Become a team! A tewam to be reckoned with, A team that will get behind Heath and dig & dig every inch of the way until he is elected! Then we can settle any progressive vs. conservative differences!........Dan

Very important

for us to hear these historical perspectives. Thanks, Dan.

Took me a good bit of reading and pondering the concept to come to it (I can be sorta hardheaded sometimes), but I finally realized that the calls for leaving our special interests behind are on the money. Things in politics do not happen in their own little vaccuums. It all ties together. All of us -- Blues, populists, Greens, progressives and Yellow Dogs (and all us mutts of mixed breed) -- working together and supporting each other is the only way Democrats have a chance of moderating the GOP lead Congress. And make no mistake, it is the GOP control of Congress and the Senate that threatens the integrity of our nation as the "FREE COUNTRY" we all grew up in. I don't know about y'all, but I'd really prefer to pass a free country on to my children and grandchildren. In fact, that's the only reason this once very apolitical tired old worker-bee gives a darn about politics now.

Says in one simple paragraph what I have been trying to say for years without success. We are engaged in a battle for the soul of America, with the goal of corporate profits on one side and the common good of We the People on the other.

Charles Taylor is a George Bush Lapdog and represents an America that has sold out to profiteering and greed. He is part of the problem.

Thanks, Anglico

I bow in your general direction, and I am humbled and happy to know that simple words can sometimes come in handy. Y'all -- you regulars here at bluenc -- are indeed the learned capable ones. I come here to take notes and gather knowledge for referencing and passing on.

Thanks for all you do!!
