I have a friend who "knows people" in the inner sanctum of the Obama campaign ... and our little party on April 27th has attracted some interest. Which raises this question: who would we like to have from the campaign to attend our bash? I asked for Barack Obama himself, of course, but that's a gigantic long shot. Maybe he'll be passing through town that afternoon and will stop by for a drink, but let's not count on it. My other thought is for someone associated with Obama's new media operation. We could ply him (or her) with beer and get the inside scoop on how they're kickin' butt in the interTubes department. Your thoughts?

My only beef is when I initially submitted our media request for a live-blog a few weeks ago with the Obama campaign, all they did was harvest my email address for fundraising. So, not cool.

Interesting observation though. Obama does seem more "connected" but Clinton seems to be more "accessible", in NC at any rate. Obama seems to have more gatekeepers.

My yard signs keep getting stolen
2 of my Dan Besse yard signs have been taken within hours of putting them up. The thief hasn't touched the Jim Neal sign.
Does anyone have any idea how prevent that?

As any candidate who has ever worked with me knows, I am very anal about yard signs: who has how many, where are they placed, are they maintained, are any missing, are they picked up afterwards, etc.
Yard signs are property, and I would immediately call the police upon theft of a sign from private property.
You are talking to a guy who usually spends many hours and tons of gas placing signs throughout the district, and I demand a reason for every sign that goes missing.
Sometimes it is due to local maintanence, sometimes it is weather, sometimes it is rival campaigns, but I will eventually find out who is responsible.
Slap me in the face, and I'll turn the other cheeck. Steal one of my signs, and we have a serious problem.

When my Kerry/Edwards sign was stolen I made my own "You can steal my sign, but not my vote, Kerry Edwards for President".
My sign showed up the next day, wrinkled but intact.

Here's an idea
Put two yard signs for Besse up. Shoot one with a shotgun so it will be filled with holes, and then staple a sign to all your signs that says:
If either of these signs are moved, it will trigger my shotgun to go off. Thank you!

Yes! Simply post another sign that says " The owner of this property is a life time member of the NRA and has contracted out the security of this property to the Blackwater group. Any person of interest caught removing political signs from this property will be beated, torture and waterboard with hot water."
I have no idea why the thief wouldn't steal the Neal signs unless the Hagan people are not that smart and can't read.

Do call your local BOE and report it. It's a violation of election law. Also, closely check the requirements your town has for where they can be placed. I know Southern Pines will go around and pick up signs that are improperly placed and just stick them behind the post office. Even though it's your private property, there might be something about how many feet from the road they have to be, etc.

Yep...in Mecklenburg I think it is pretty far back
even in private yards. Also, I think they turn a blind eye on illegal sign placement for the final week or so....but I'm not 100% positive about that.
