Tonight is the night when all good Democrats gather to organize their precincts, elect officers and select delegates to the (county) state convention. Do you know where your meeting is being held? I know and I've already submitted my volunteer information on the Union County Democratic Party web site and I plan to attend the meeting.
You have small children? Fine, take them with you. Pack them some snacks and toys - enough to last for half an hour. It's never too early for them to participate in the Democratic Party. No, they do not count toward the quorum. hehe
The meeting times are during dinner? I can think of no better time to get takeout. I love it when I don't have to fix dinner, don't you? How nice of the NCDP to arrange this for us.
No excuses, folks. If you don't know where your meeting is being held go to the NCDP web site and find your county party's contact information. If you are having trouble, just post here and someone will help you.

I will be there. I've already planned dinner ahead and will fix it early so I'm not late for my meeting.

I don't know where my precinct meeting is
Can anyone help? I live in Wilson county and no one seems to know where our precinct meetings are. We don't have a website and the NCDP couldn't tell me when I called. I've called both pres campaigns and didn't have much luck leaving a message with our county chair. I'd really like to go.
Thanks.

Durham County
List of Durham County precinct meetings.
I just got back from mine.
Our little Vass precinct had 10 people show up - the most anyone could remember. That may not sound like a lot to some of you powerhouses out there, but for us, believe me, it was encouraging. In our brand-spanking new town hall. People are excited about the upcoming primary, and the (county convention), and even the perhaps unfortunately named JJ dinner. Conventional wisdom among my neighbors is that since NC's primary will be "the Decider" (heh!), both Obama and Clinton will be there. We'll see on both of those notions.
The ages ranged from 18 to 82, and though we didn't straw poll folks, we seemed pretty evenly split on Presidential candidates. Best of all, I signed up 4 people for the Constructing Victory Crew. W00t!

I just got back from mine
I was elected vice chair because a lovely older gentleman nominated me since I was the only new face. We had 14 people at the meeting and most of them were related...uh...that's the other reason I was nominated. :D
Very exciting to see that many people at a precinct meeting.

Mine went great!
This was our second meeting since we organized at the February meeting....and had another fired up crowd.
We're planning a big precinct event in April and trying to get all registered Dems to come out for a backyard cookout and a Meet-n-Greet with Candidates and Local electeds...it's gonna be great!
Excellent!
I had the best time. There was a gentleman there who was very up on his current events and his history. He had clipped an article out of the Observer to share with everyone to make sure we all knew that the Pentagon investigation now concluded there was no link between Saddam and Al Qaeda. Out here in Republican country these were NOT conservative Democrats and most were over 60. I'd say a good number were in their 70s. All were very welcoming. They were the "regular" crowd. I was the new "girl" from Mecklenburg. :D

I just got back awhile ago.
was elected Chair. There were about 8 or 9 people there. Not great turnout, but our precinct usually turns out about 85% of all registered Democrats. I hope we can do the same.

Went to one for Marshall Adame
bradford
Went to a precinct meeting in Morehead City to pitch for Marshall Adame and got a great reception from folks eager to overthrow Mr. Freedom Fries. Most of the talk, though, was about the economy. Stock market up today, but the big worry about gas prices overshadowed it. Retirees are even having to cut back on volunteering in civic activities. They want hybrids and can't afford them. And the ones at the meeting who have jobs say inflation is eating them up because nobody's getting raises, not even COLAs, in recent years. WE NEED REAL PEOPLE IN OFFICE WHO UNDERSTAND THE PLIGHT OF WORKING PEOPLE AND RETIREES! On the presidential split, slight majority for Hillary at the meeting. But one of those said he'd really prefer Bill. All were for The Bev for Guv. Ate great cookies.
bradford
Thanks for the report Bradford
I think we're going to start hearing a lot more about the economy from the folks who are hurting the most.

I think...
bradford
...we'll start hearing the economic woes taking a more prominent place in our candidates' statements or speeches. Or at least we should, 'cause it's really getting bad. I'm looking for a job, and most of what's out there is part-time, so they don't have to pay benefits.

Thru some kind of mix-up...
ours was last night and I missed it. :(
Ed(Precinct chair) called me today and told me there were 9 people there, a couple of new ones. That is indeed a WoWser for the West End Precinct.

Our meeting went great.
We started outside!! :) ... waiting for a key to the Fire House. We read Jerry's message and said the Pledge and filled out our attendance thingies ... all outside ... but it was actually kinda fun. The nice man with the key came and let us in soon enough though.
We had some real live new faces there ready to jump in and participate. I'm psyched. We got a hand full of new sign-ups for the Constructing Victory Crew, collected enough donations to just about meet our part of the county party's sustaining fund obligation, and elected delegates to the County convention on April 19. We talked about our local candidates, too. Y'all in bluer areas may not understand, but here in Johnston County we are incredibly excited to have great Democratic candidates up and down the ticket to campaign and vote for.
Johnston Dems are ready to have the primary over and hit the streets, y'all!!!

yay for daylight savings time!
I love this.

I think daylight saving time made a big difference
we had a several older folks who used to be active in the precinct but hadn't come out in a while. But since the weather was nice (at the moment) and it wasn't dark (when we started) they came out. And we just about met our sustaining fund, too.
