John Autry Live Blogging Sunday @ 6

On the heels of all the primary drama around the US Senate race, I thought it would be productive to put some energy into making sure BlueNC is a fair and balanced forum for all comers. I've extended an invitation to Kay Hagan to join us here, and I've also invited John Autry to do the same. John, who is running for Congress in the 8th District, has graciously accepted my offer. He'll be here with us on Sunday (28th) at 6 pm for about an hour. I hope you'll be able to join us.

John Autry is a native North Carolinian, born and raised here. He served in the Navy between 1972 and 1976 (same as me!). John has a good, solid website that does a far better job than I can in explaining who he is and what he stands for. Please check it out. His positions on various issues can be found here..

If you can't be online Sunday night, please feel free to drop your questions and comments here ahead of time.

See you then!

Advance thanks to John for joining us

and thanks to everyone else for welcoming him into the belly of the beast. Having run for local office myself once upon a time, I know what an enormous commitment it takes. My hat's off to anyone who is stepping up to serve.

If I don't make it back in time would you ask

Why he has decided to run in the 8th.

AND did he support Larry Kissell's run against Hayes in the last election, if so, how.

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

I look forward to it. Thanks for providing us with the opportunity to hear from these folks.

Al Manning, retiree, native of eastern NC and proud of it, plenty of time to read, research and get annoyed about the lack of accountability in elected leaders these days. Married to a real southern lady and we live with two labs and two airedales who run

Thanks Alman

And just in case I haven't said this yet, it's very great having you in the community. Welcome again!

You are beginning to give me a complex James, but

if John Autry is the Democrat in the 8th then we need to encourage him and get behind him.

We should do live-blogging with a guy named

Marshall Adame, too.

You're such a regular and so many people know you around here, that it's easy to forget that many readers may not have met you.

Let me know when you want to do an "official" session and we'll get it on the calendar.

Excuse Me!!

What about Larry?

Lovex7

Thanks Anglico

for doing this; I'm a fan of your work and appreciate all the attention you give to NC politics. Great job on the Jim Neal story!

I'm also a friend of John's and think he is a wonderful person who would serve the district well. One of the policy issues I've been very concerned about is human rights.

I'd like John to explain his policy on the following:
immigrant rights
women's rights
gay rights; especially in regards to gay marriage rights

I'm looking forward to Sunday!

Thanks Anglico. I like the open forum you've created

for all the candidates here. Having read the live blog BlueNC had with Jim Neal last week, I'm very much looking forward to being a part of the action tomorrow with John Autry.

Have you received any positive feedback from Kay Hagan yet?

North Carolina. Turning the South Blue!

Not yet

But I just asked yesterday. I'm guessing she's pretty busy right now with other decisions.

Veterans and the war

Two questions & a comment:

I think it incredible powerful to have veterans like your self take a stance for peace, - can you comment on how your experience shaped your views?

Many have observed that the dem victory in 2006 has accomplished so little because highly conservative dems who support the current admin came to power - how do you differ from the current admin agenda ?

I am proud to have you runningin my home state

Ugh

whatever

In case I miss tomorrow's session,

could somebody ask John:

If Larry Kissel wins the primary, will he endorse him and ask Autry supporters to vote for Kissel in the General Election?

I am curious why John decided to run againt Kissell.

As a Kissell supporter I am sure a Primary race will create greater interest.

Of course John has every right and should be given the same opportunity to make his case as any Democrat. I am just curious.

I am too, considering the fact

that in the 2006 Primary, Larry got 54% of the votes (13,304), while John only got 17% (4,422).

Which is what brought about my question above. Out of those 4,422 Autry supporters, how many voted for Larry in November? If 330 of them didn't vote at all, or if 165 voted for Hayes instead...

I think it's great to have two democrats running against Hayes.

I just want to know that the primary will not be ugly - that Democrats won't destroy other Democrats. Keep in mind that the enemy is Robin Hayes. I hope both Kissell and Autry (and especially their campaigns) can commit to staying above the ugly.

Thanks Anglico for including all

John,
Where do you stand on the FISA bill that proposes immunity for telecom companies?
Can you explain your position on this adminsitration's intrusion on our civil liberites?

follow the money

Schip

what about Larry Hayes stance on SChip

Schip

I meant ROBIN HAYES

Heh

It's funny. I know a guy named Larry Hayes . . . you gave me a flashback there for a minute!

Robin Hayes was for it

before he was against it. :)

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own.

And then he was for it again

But wait . . . I think he's changing his mind one more time . . .
