I went to the Civitas Luncheon they do once a month to spin up their poll results.
Verna Collins (NBC-17) and Jack Hawk were the speakers.
Hawk consistently described low Bush and GOP numbers as "bad." Numbers he considered to present a political advantage to the GOP were called "good" or "encouraging." Poll results Hawk considered to be favorable to Democrats were "bad."
Similarly, he repeatedly used the terms "we" and "us" to describe the Republican party. Referring to polls he determined to be favorable to the GOP, he said, "This is good for us" and "We are improving here."
Hawk consistently used the term "Democrat Party," even using the confusing term "The Democrat" to refer to Democratic voters across the state. The one exception to this was when reading off a power point display he stumbled: "the Democratic, excuse me, Democrat party."
In a weird joke nobody laughed at, he compared the Democratic majority to an unloved wife.
Hawk described the News and Observer as "a dirt rag thing."
He described Republican defeats in 2006 as "unfortunate." He called "Reaganomics" good policy.
While talking about tax subsidy to big business, Hawk pointed at me and said "I know I'm going to read about it online from that NCBlue (sic) person." He made a comment about BlueNC "attacking him." Hawk apparently thinks BlueNC is in favor of corporate incentives.
Civitas has a new vice president Francis Deluca. He is the former president of Americans for Prosperity.
Civitas is going to be conducting it's next poll on the Charlotte election. They made plain that they intend to show that Charlotte voters are opposed to public transportation.
Civitas will soon be launching a new website.
One last thing. At some point someone stood up and said, "When will these people realize that a tax on the rich is even worse than a tax on the poor?!" Ayn Rand would be proud.

I'm confused, is Civitas a nonprofit?
Which of their shell companies is "non-partisan"?

Civitas IS a nonprofit
they are a 501(c)3
and they would never DREAM of engaging in partisan politics . . .

Thank God! He didn't call in the University of Flordia campus police to Taser you about being a secret member of Blue NC. Hell! Jack still thinks that Duke football packs it's stadium and rated Number 1 in the nation. Those folks are so thin skin at Pope's neo-con operation, that they need a leather skin coat when they read Blue NC 24/7.

Attacking Hawke
is hardly worth the trouble. The guy is obviously so far out of touch that only the purists on the lunatic fringe care what he thinks.
It looks like Pope is grooming Francis Deluca to take the reins from the doddering old fool? After running the NC chapter of Americans for Prosperity into complete irrelevance, maybe Francis will do the same for Civitas.
Which means I'll have to update my Puppetshow map again. Dang it. It's almost a full time job keeping up with all their musical chairs inbreeding.
Wow, Jerimee.
It was good of you to go to make this report for us. How on earth did you keep silent? And how can we be breathing the same air as these people?

Hawke comments could be illegal
I've been at plenty of these types of presentations for non-profits where an inexperienced staffer will make this type of mistake. I'm surprised someone at the top of an organization, knowing non-conservatives and the media were in the room, would make these types of mistakes. Did he give any kind of disclaimer (i.e. "I say this is bad news because it will negatively affect conservative issues")
Saying "we" and "us" tp refer to GOP numbers/trends would be a BIG slip-up.
Is there a recording of this perhaps? If not, it's probably not worth pursuing. If so, it's definitely something that might interest the Sec. of State or the IRS. I imagine Mr. Hawke is reading this and getting his story "straight" with his fellow wingnuts right now.

Notable quote: ":leaders (of 501C3s) cannot make partisan comments in official organization publications or at official functions of the organization."
I don't think Hawk cares
to answer your question, no, there were no qualifiers on his statements
I don't think Hawk is really worried about following the law. He makes no attempt to place a fig leaf in front of his partisan tactics.

one fact has not been emphasized
And that fact is, Jerimee is a brave, brave man.
Sometimes just a complaint can lead to an audit
Or perhaps Jerry Meek would like to lodge a complaint as he represents the Party that would be harmed by Hawke's statements.
Bwahahahaha!
I missed this the first time through. He was more concerned about you being a regular BlueNC poster than an employee of the NCDP? 2 thoughts immediately come to mind:

What do you think he is, a liberal?
Conservative politicians don't read, it goes against their truthiness and "gut" instincts.
