Weekend Wound Up: Open Thread

A roller-coaster week all around. The storms. The power outages. The Blacksburg shootings. The media frenzy. Anarchy breaking out all over Iraq (again). The Bush-appointed liars in the Supreme Court. The Bush appointed liars in the Justice Department. Liddy Dull flip-flopping on the OLF. Patty McHenry wanting to attack Iran. The touching stories on BlueNC Veterans Day. Taxes. I'm glad the weekend is upon us. How about you?

Busy weekend here...

Marshall and I are driving across Eastern NC. We'll be buzzing the Carteret, Craven and Pitt County Conventions.

Anyone going to be at any of those?

Thomas

What have YOU done today to make the world a better place?

Be safe and give 'em hell.

I hope you'll also be button-holing whatever progressives you find and dragging them to BlueNC.

Thanks for all you're doing.

You have patience

I can't even sit through one convention. Kudos to you for showing up and participating.

And all the men and women merely players.”
So enjoy the drama.

Try taking the minutes at one!

My suggestion to next year's secretary: everyone must wear GIANT name tags, and parliamentary procedure followed to the letter. :-D

record the meetings

as well as take minutes. That way you can go back to the recording if you missed something. Let the folks know you are recording it, but are relying primarily on your notes. If you cannot reconstruct with your notes and recordings then they were not discusing their point with the ability of a normal person able to follow the discussion. They lose their point. Record only the recognized speaker at that time for content. Make it incumbant upon the person interupting to provide you with minutes on their thoughts for inclussion in your minutes only if warrented.

Way to many people talk just to hear themselfs speak.

Not even close to the weekend yet.

I just posted why.

This has been a rough week

my week pales in comparison to the weeks so many others experienced that I wouldn't dream of complaining. I'll just tuck my head and keep plowing through to an easier day. I think one is right around the corner. :)

Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own.

I don't believe it sometimes

My freshman roommate is a Blacksburg native, and the Asst. Treasurer for my County Comm. Campaign is good friends with one of the students who had to jump out a window to save his life. I just can't imagine.

My first Forsyth County Convention

And I'll be attending it as the chair of the largest precinct.

Should be fun.

I plan to promote BlueNC quite heartily.

War is over if you want it.

From the NCDP front page

comes this news. The NC

Senate voted unanimously Wednesday to permanently ban new hog farms that collect waste in lagoons and then spray it on fields.

I believe this is one of the bills Rep. Martin spoke of last weekend on the Capitol steps in Raleigh.

Sen. Charlie Albertson, D-Duplin, who sponsored the legislation, said he intended it to help ensure the longevity of the swine industry by aiding the transition to better waste-disposal methods that would make the farms good neighbors in their communities.

And you know what is really good news? The NC Pork Council played the part of a responsible corporate citizen.

"Just looking at the economic and political climate, we are willing to accept these standards for new and expanding farms and move forward," said Deborah Johnson, chief executive officer of the Pork Council.

Well, ok, so it was an economic and political decision. They were more like a 'quiet' corporate citizen. Nonetheless, I applaud the Pork Council for graciously stepping aside for the common good. To show appreciation, we'll be enjoying a nice juicy pork roast for dinner in the H household this weekend. Cheers!!!

Girl power!

We had our County convention in Cabarrus County and for the first time ever we elected a woman as party chair!
We have an all new and energized team of officers and a brand new local headquarters.
Things are starting to move in this county where 65% of the vote goes republican.

Thanks to all the veterans who

shared their stories. I've been out of town and couldn't figure out how to post through my Treo. But, it always a joy to hear from other vets and "remember with advantages" our feats.

Going to reboot the server

Downtime should be less than a minute. Made some changes to the MySQL settings that I need to apply, and rebooting is looking a lot easier than trying to learn how to restart MySQL from the command line.

Oh, Good

Does that mean we won't be logged off against our will anymore?

tsk, that was so annoying. I'm too lazy to repeat myself when a post gets eaten.

(see how many emails you get -'bring it back!') ;)

Um, no. Sorry.

I was fixing another problem. I need to find me a cookie expert, as the stuff baffles me. (I get the sense that it's not all that complicated, yet I have found the server-side use of session cookies to be impenetrable.) Like as for me, I'm not having any log-off problems, but there have been times when I have and it seems that no one else did.

So that's still on my to-do list. Sorry.
