Weekend Wound Up: Open thread

Guess we've arrived . . . Ed Cone mentions BlueNC in the same virtual breath at the Puppetshow! Seriously, I genuinely appreciate Ed's acknowledgment. He has one of the longest-running and most interesting blogs in the state, and he always operates with integrity and grace. Stop by and show him some love.

In other news, it looks like my daughter has fallen hook, line and sinker for UNC Asheville. Their music program has really captured her interest and imagination. She's just a junior, so lots of things can change, but I wouldn't be surprised if UNCA is where she ends up.

That's interesting, A....

My son, who is also a junior, has expressed interest in UNCA. Wouldn't that be something?

Is this what that "Buncome Co Dems Begin a New Era" article

is about?

Many of my good friends went to the new, improved UNCA

I was in the IB program at my school, so all of us went to college, and while UNC was popular (as usual), many students from my class chose UNCA. Most of my friends who went there (only one exception out of the bunch) loved it.

UNCA -- a great choice

My nephew chose UNCA although we, as a family, had no experience with the school, His mother, a HS principal in NC, was so impressed with the entirety of his experience that she wrote their chancellor a glowing thank you letter after he graduated. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Asheville is a beautiful part of the country to go to school

I really like Asheville, including the little downtown.

I went to my first semester of college not far from there at small college, Montreat-Anderson. Don't ask! lol. (It had to do with a boyfriend, I'm not religious). At any rate, it was like living at a resort. I spent more time horseback riding than I did in class.

Something looks different around here, has the font changed?

I have a house in Montreat

Awesome place.

That would be great

The UNCA music program is fantastic, the school is one of the best bargains in the nation, and Asheville is as hip as you want it to be.

Plus, I'll get to see more of you and your family, Anglico. Sounds to me like everybody wins.

p.s. You are not allowed to come to Asheville again without giving me a call and hanging out.

Awesome!

I'm UNCA class of 98 (political science) and my wife is UNCA class of 97 (mass communication). I'm a little biased, but it's a fantastic school. Small classes, awesome professors.
Great place for many, many reasons.

Gonzo uses the Pope defense

This is hilarious, from a Washington Post article referenced in this Kos diary, featuring this quote from our esteemed US Attorney General.

During those conversations, TO MY KNOWLEDGE, I did not make decisions about who should or should not be asked to resign

To my knowledge. Those are the three most frequently used words from Art Pope during the State Board of Elections challenge from Richard Morgan. When people say TO MY KNOWLEDGE all the time, they are almost certainly trying to keep the truth from seeing the light of day. Which some people might call flat-out, bald-faced lying.

To my knowledge.

huh?

How can you not have knowledge about whether or not you made a decision?

Can you imagine...

what a national hero Gonzales would become if he really told the American people all he does have knowledge of?

It makes my head spin.

caveat -

It would have to be the truth - not just knowledge.

Conclusory statements don't cut it. I don't want his opinion on what he knows - I just want the facts.

But - yeah - if he told the truth about all he knows he could go from goat to great in about an hour.

How sad is that?

The general public doesn't know that?

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.
