Weekend Wound Up: Open thread

It was a big week for Mrs. Anglico, who not only was featured on CNN, but also on ABC News and in Newsweek. She's really kickin' in, and will be getting more and more exposure over the next few weeks as the news about her research on adolescents continues to spread.

Looks like the NC legislature is getting down to work on lots of fronts, with bills flying fast and furious. We're working to get some of our elected officials to come by for live blogging, so keep your eyes peeled for news on that front soon.

Site traffic continues to grow. January was our best month ever in terms of the total number of unique visitors, and February looks like it'll be even stronger.

Finally, it was a crazy week on the NO OLF front. The Navy finally delivered its Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement, amidst a flurry of condemnations from just about everybody in North Carolina except Liddy Dole and Richard Burr. Expect more sparks to fly when the Navy starts holding public hearings. Also, look for a bill to be introduced sometime soon in the General Assembly with a resolution against the Site C location.

Kind of quiet today

Hope you're having a good weekend!

Hopefully you are too....Jane is awesome!

Will she consider joining us for Women on Wednesdays?

She loves the idea

but I doubt she'll be able to find the time. She's traveling every week, plus teaching grad students, plus advising PhD's, plus raising money on boards, plus putting up with me. She loves her t-shirt, though, and is happy to be a BlueNC Woman by association!

we could interview her

Just got back from helping Mom move some of the last of the crap from my grandmother's house. We dug up some old bulbs, sweet shrub, etc and finished getting the stuff out of the attic. She's useless with that cast - I mean that in the nicest way possible.

I'm going to help her with the very last of it tomorrow, so won't be around much of the day. Sorry for not pulling my weight. (That would be a lot to pull!)

I promise I'll get some of what I've been working on finished for tomorrow and Monday.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own.

Virginia Pilot

has the OLF story. Not surprisingly, the VA Senators are all for exporting their noise and danger to North Carolina. Too bad our Senators are dumb enough to agree with them.

Did you see the poll?

Of 797 votes, 67% are all for exporting the OLF to Washington County, NC. They didn't ask if the Navy should find a better spot, of course.

And did you see how they made Dole look like she cared about NC? Without seeing the full statement, I guess they figured the public would believe their interpretation thereof.

Virginia legislators endorsed the study. Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., called it good news because it would help secure Oceana Naval Air Station's role as the master jet base for the East Coast.

But Sen. Elizabeth Dole, R-N.C., called for the Navy to "thoroughly consider the concerns of my constituents."

I think it's time to email Kate Wiltrout, such a creative author: kate.wiltrout@pilotonline.com

Sounds good on paper

But Sen. Elizabeth Dole, R-N.C., called for the Navy to "thoroughly consider the concerns of my constituents."

- until you compare it to what it really says:

I don't have concerns; my constituents do.

Great story in the N&O

on the NO OLF folks, this one from the point of view of an ex-Navy pilot. Definitely worth the read.
