CNN's Candy Crowley, in her hour-long "Broken Government" special tonight featuring the NC-11 Congressional race, faithfully recited every Republican talking point and then made Democrats argue first why the talking points were correct then argue why they were wrong. Crowley's narrative was based on the fiction of a strong Republican party. Using RNC language and playing Charles Taylor's advertisements, Crowley painted the Democrats as weak on national security and as utterly out-of-touch with rural America. When Crowley wasn't wondering about Democrats' weaknesses with rural voters, she was wondering about whether liberal, urban voters will be turned off by Shuler's rural values. Even when showing Shuler's grassroots, door-to-door campaigning, Crowley trumpeted the greatness of Republican party efforts to do the same.
She used our beloved Drinking Liberally to support her anti-Democrat narrative by choosing only those quotes that underscore her preconceived notions. EM, Photoshop Guru, MyGothLaundry - It was great to see you on CNN, and it was great to see you speaking genuinely. What sucked was seeing Candy Crowley edit out anything that didn't fit her screenplay.
The good news is that Heath Shuler came across, despite Crowley's tilted editorializing, as a passionate, intelligent, values-driven contender. And Taylor? He wouldn't talk to her. He's completely MIA. And without Taylor on the program, Crowley must have decided it was up to her to carry the Republican banner. The program was a hit piece on Democrats in which Shuler comes out as a Democrat who can win.

You've a stronger stomach than I do.
I can't bring myself to watch CNN. In fact I have it blocked on my television. I never visit their website. Ever.
It's just a few inches to the left of Fox, which means it ten feet to the right of center. Corporate media whores, that's all they are.
For the Hell of it

Candy Crowley....
...did such a disservice to the field of journalism when she followed the Kerry campaign. I lost all faith in objective reporting after her stint in 2004...honestly, I lost my faith. Her biased reporting did so much damage...well, what else is there to say. Sorry, there's just days when you can't take it anymore. So glad Heath held his ground and you were able to watch and report.
Conscious evolution, it's what turns me on. There's got to be a difference between right and wrong.-DTB
Welcome Back Screwy, and thanks for wading thru the muck for us
I use to yell at the tube when the posers were on, now I don't even watch. Instead I do something about it. Not as good as you and the WNCNN crew, but I have learned from all of you at BlueNC, and lowered my blood pressure along the way!

That WAS fun to see so many familiar faces and places
And my photograph made national television. Twice. I feel like I won something!
And Heath did good, didn't he?

Thanks but I never left
I'm just going nuts doing video things and phone banking. Anyone near Marion, NC who wants to help Heath, Joe Sam Queen, or Chuck Aldridge, contact me. We're phone banking most nights and some afternoons and we would love more warm bodies.
Isn't someone here from Old Fort? Come on down. We're across from the courthouse. All the sodas and chips you can drink and eat.

Hey, Screwy, did you see the NRCC mailer
that blames Heath for some woman's injury because he supposedly rented her an unsafe house? It's unbelievably ridiculous considering CT's record.
What about the three people that DIED because Taylor is too cheap to have proper security at the bank he micromanages? Taylor settled out of court in 2003, remember? Grrrrrr.
I'll send you a jpeg if you want. There's another mailer that says it's important medicare prescription drug benefit info that has a multi-ethnic group of people clearly not from the 11th. They even look gay!

Thought the welcome back was for me. Duh. Makes for interesting read. (I know what you're thinking. I never have been able to follow the comments section very well.)
Can't come to DL. Phone banking. Wanna bring DL to Marion? If I'm done early I'll bop over, tho. But I'll call first.
Scan on the way.

Complete. And. Total. Bullshit.
Screwy - I'm about to get ready for bed in a few minutes, but we need to talk about this ASAP. This does not look good for DL.
"we're banging pots and pans / to make you understand / we're gonna bury you, man"
ScruHoo!
It's fine
Crowley wasn't going to let anyone else's opinions guide the course of her narrative. Anyone with a scintilla a media savvy recognized this.
I think our DLers represented themselves with integrity and that it was clear their quotes were small parts of their opinions. Also, having articulate good looking people is always good publicity for a drinking club.

I agree with Screwy
They interviewed people for a long time and picked those quotes. Now, I wish they hadn't been made, but that's what they were trolling for. And it was honest. Clearly, no one's following a list of talking points from the DDDC!

Crowley nothing more than a hack
Who desperately wants Blitzer's desk job. I've never seen a piece by her that I liked, mainly because she has no journalistic sense or decency.
Its all breaking news, quotes, and rehashed party lines (from both sides sometimes), nothing more.
With 13 days to go, we'll shove it down her cakehole for sure.

Never heard of Candy
Never even heard of her til I read this post. I catch Olbermann here and there, and that's pretty much the extent of cable news ever shown in my house, thankfully.
