(cross-posted from Scrutiny Hooligans...)
To follow up on a previous post concerning the scuttled Taylor/Shuler debate:
In an article that first appeared online on Friday (10/13) and on the front page of the print edition on Saturday (10/14), the Asheville Citizen-Times had essentially (and unfairly) attacked Heath Shuler for doing something that tens of thousands of people throughout the 11th District do as well.
The reason for the attack? Shuler and his family obeyed the 4th (or 3rd, depending on your faith) Commandment:
Remember the Sabbath day, and keep it holy.
This two-minute video, shot at last night's scheduled debate in Forest City (which Congressman Charles Taylor ducked out of after agreeing to attend), pretty much says it all:
To date, last night's debate was the seventh public debate/candidate forum held in the 11th District that Charles Taylor has refused to attend. On top of that, the Citizen-Times has not printed a single word about Taylor's refusal to attend any of these events. The paper has not mentioned the fact that Taylor is not willing or able to clear two hours from his schedule to give his take on the issues facing NC-11, which is something he truly owes to his constituents. Instead, the Citizen-Times has decided to attack Shuler for not only backing out of a debate on a date that he had never agreed to in the first place, but one that was to be held on a Sunday.
This would be a good time to call Taylor's office @ (828) 251-1988 and ask them why the Congressman chickened out on last night's debate in Rutherford County after saying he would attend. While you're at it, you might consider sending a letter to the editor of the Asheville Citizen-Times letting them know that their slant is showing, and that they may want to make good with their readers.
(hat tip to DQ for the video!)

This post is great and
should be at the top of the list over at MyDD and DailyKos.
I hope Heath puts this on TV in the district. It is time the Citizen-Times stopped acting like Taylor's PR staff.
Thanks, Todd!
Kos/MyDD postings coming later, probably around lunchtime.

ScruHoo!
Wow.
That's the best and clearest view I've gotten of Heath Shuler and it just about brought tears to my eyes.
PS I didn't know Up Chuck owned the Asheville newspaper too!

Title that video: Shuler slammed for holding Sundays sacred
What I come away with is this -- Democrats can be principled and stand up for moral values and the media can choose to ignore it or even attempt to say the opposite, but pictures are louder than words. Take a look! The empty chairs say it all.
Rec @ Kos/MyDD?
We can blow this wide open...

LTE to Forest City paper
I'm from that town. Graduated from East Rutherford HS in 1980. I'm writing an LTE to the Forest City paper ... in support of this man ... a good man, a good father, principled enough to set aside one day a week for God and family, who'll make a great Congressman from the 11th District.
Go get 'em Heath!!
