WRAL report on alleged sexual harassment at NCDP

Report was broadcast at 6pm by WRAL TV. You can also see streamed on www.WRAL.com.

"Leaders of the North Carolina Democratic Party declined to answer questions Friday about reports that a junior staffer quit working for the party last fall after being sexually harassed by a senior party official.

Several party officials said

they were told the party settled with the young man and that he signed a non-disclosure agreement. No financial settlement appears on the party's finance reports.

The senior official allegedly behind the harassment is still working at the party's Raleigh headquarters..."

Apparently the story was broken by The Daily Caller earlier today:

see their commentary here. The article quotes Watt Jones, an officer in the Wake Democratic Party, from an email exchange with other party officials.

Daily Caller now reporting the name of the alleged harasser and the name of the former employee who filed the complaint. Civitas provided the info:

Jay Parmley, North Carolina’s Democratic Party executive director, has been accused of sexual harassment by Adriadn Ortega, a former communications staffer for the state party, according to a report by the J.W.P. Civitas Institute.

An email chain The Daily Caller previously obtained didn’t name the alleged perpetrator or the victim, but confirmed the existence of the alleged sexual harassment, a financial settlement paid to the victim and that Parmley and the victim had signed non-disclosure agreements. Civitas has since reported the names of those involved.

Next steps for NCDP

Now that this story is finally out after fueling a rumor mill for months, what should the Democrats do?

Parmley, the ED and the alleged perpetrator, has to go. What about the Party Chair who allows this to happen, and who then refuses to respond to the inquiries from SEC member Watt Jones?
