Who are you?

We know it's asking a lot of lurkers to answer any roll call, but please, do take the time to let us know you exist. And maybe even a little bit about yourself? Heaven forbid.

When I first started blogging

I got started on a social media site called Aetheri, about 10 years ago. It was the coolest thing in the world, and I am still friends with about twenty people I met there, even though I've actually only seen three of them in person. Everybody used a pseudonym. Mine was Liz. Liz wrote in first person plural.

Goodness, we really miss those days. Living as the royal "we" was such sweet fun. Don't be surprised if we show up again.

In the meantime, I am James.

Guilty as charged ... a lurker's confession.

Actually, I've dropped one or two comments, but read much more than I respond.

Me? I'm a blogger out Fuquay, a progressive secularist and a transplant from New England. ~Ducks~

I blog a bit about NC myself at cryptonaut-in-exile.

I go by cdogzilla, but the name's Chris.

Love what you do here. Keep on keepin' on ...

Pink Fairy Armadillo!

Hey, thanks for coming out, and thanks for the link to cryptonaut. Nice place, nice blogroll.

I'm not really a lurker, but

I do tend to restrain myself here for fear of everyone finding out just how utterly ignorant and truly insane I really am. (reaches for foil helmet)

I am a scatterbrained, over stimulated, insert your favorite descriptor here, reader and occasional commenter. I'm grateful to have made a few new friends through BlueNC and have learned much about the depravity of my state government as a result.

I post a lot of crap and sometimes blog at Thurman's Notebook.

Thurman's Notebook

Hi Thurman, I just added you to my reader after reading through and enjoying several posts -- none of it looked like crap to me. Could me I'm equally insane or you're underselling yourself! I hope it's the latter.

You're too kind

It's not been proven, but I suspect there's a large dose of ADD rolling around in my head. Keeps my content pretty much all over the place. Thanks for the kind words, I'll be snooping around on your site from time to time as well. Really liked the video you posted from the Maddow show the other night. Great minds, right?

Reader? Is that the piece of software I keep adding feeds to until I can't possibly digest any of it? The only thing I have a harder time keeping up with is the Twitterverse. This interwebs thingy keeps me distracted and nonproductive most of the time.

Hello Lurkers (AKA Man in the Mirror)

Hello BlueNC, my name is Darren and I am a lurker. For many, many years here I was a frequent commenter and diarist, and the occasional pain in the ass.

I am not sure when I fell off the regular wagon and back into lurking. I came to BlueNC fresh off an Associate's Degree and ready to change the world.

Then came university and trial by fire. Simultaneously working on political campaigns and gaining a Bachelor's degree was a ton of fun. Talk about constant stimulation!

It was about graduation time when I first turned to the lurk. The younger generation was leaps and bounds ahead of me on campaign technology, and I found my ideas to be redundant at best, out-dated at worst, and sometimes just bad.

And next was the rifts/disappointments. Clinton vs Obama, Marshall vs. Cunningham, Kissell, Edwards, etc etc. So I decided to heck with it all, I will throw myself into grad school.

Well, grad school wasn't for me. I bombed out (aka gave up) after two semesters. My confidence was shot, my writing weak, rambling, and inarticulate. I set about deleting previous diaries like a mad author on a simile tear.

So for the past year or so I have lurked. During moments of clarity I would pop in a comment here and there. And wile my comments were generally well received, I always went back to the lurk.

Now here I am, at the rock bottom of lurking. I think back to my glory days of front-paged diaries and private messages and campaign advising and precinct chairing. Those were the good old days.

Perhaps my best days are behind me. But one day at a time I will come back. Yes, my fellow lurkers, you can do it, you can do it too. Expectations may be high, but you can meet them. Step out of the shadows and make your voices heard.

My name is Darren, and I am a recovering lurker.

Take it one day at a time, baby. :)

Come on, people. Lie if you have to.

If lyin's good enough for the Civitas Sideshow, surely you can too. Come on. At least pretend you exist.

Purty please?

Go here almost every weekday, sometimes weekends.

I'm Alex from Cary, NC. Born, raised and lived in NC my whole life. I like Formula One Racing, hence my blogger name.

At the moment, I believe Democrats, starting with Obama, have failed miserably since 2008. People wanted change and got same ol', same ol'. Aside from a few scraps thrown to liberals, they've moved further to the right and big money interests. They've cowered at the hint of making a stand for people. Obama has been missing in action since he won the election as a leader.

Obviously, I'm pretty disappointed with the direction this country is going and see little reason for expecting any improvement.

F-One inspired me, since I have similar traits (not formula one racing, but the other stuff).

I was born and raised in NC, and I believe that the national Democrats including Obama have failed miserably. Despite the much of the GOP's animus toward the LGBT community (of which I'm a member), I can't get excited about supporting the Democratic party structure either.

It's probably time for another post on the lack of federal judicial appointments, but it's depressing when I look at the list of vacancies and see that Obama can't be bothered to nominate judges in his third year as president.

As far as economic issues, I've quoted Dolly Parton before, but here it is again.

It's a rich man's game,
No matter what they call it.
And you spend your life,
Puttin' money in his wallet.

boball here...

The other night I dreamt I was in Singapore, waiting for a bus but not quite sure which one to catch. I turn to a fellow traveler intending to ask him which bus goes to Holland Village, however I see that he is dressed entirely in white and appears to be holding a fish. I hesitate, proving yet again that social caution extends even into this imaginary realm. He motions that I should follow him and I, throwing said caution to the wind, move to go but am distracted by a sudden pain in my foot. Looking down I see that I am wearing only one shoe. When I glance back up the fellow in white is gone, swallowed by the crowd. I think that maybe I can walk home, shoes be damned, so I scan the cityscape for landmarks or other recognizable features. Nothing looks familiar and I am beginning to worry. How will I get home, especially with this fish? I look around and see that everyone has a fish.

I wake up. I am home. I would like to report that I found a large fish head under the covers, but that wouldn’t be real would it?

So I lurk. I guess my political leanings are similar to Eisenhower's -- I heard Rachel Maddow say something similar the other day and found myself nodding in agreement. Were he still around Ike would likely be jailed as a Marxist. How far right this country has gone.

Lurkers Unite

Hi, my name is Marilyn and I'm a native tarheel residing near Jacksonville NC. I started reading your blog after the last election and appreciate the reporting on Art Pope and those fools over at Civitas.

As you can imagine, this area is swamped with tea-partiers and military (talk about your socialists), and my congress-critter is Mr. "Freedom Fries" himself.
I'm a cynical old gal who is just tired of the BS and prefer the company of my dogs to the company of most people I know (many of them suffer from FOXheimers and have no grip on reality).

Nice to meet ya, keep up the good work.

So glad to meet you

I spent four years in Jacksonville, stationed at Lejeune as an airborne liaison to 2nd Anglico. Lived out on Piney Green Road between to gunnery sergeants. They hated having a liberal Navy officer with commie bumperstickers living between them, and were both pretty much self-righteous assholes.

Thanks for letting us know you're here.

James
